Gracie Gold

I watched Gracie's practice on Peacock late yesterday and am concerned too. Her FS seemed to start off well and then go steadily downhill. Peacock had quite a few closeups of her near her coaches afterward and she seemed a little dazed/out of it to me. I can't even imagine how stressful this must all be for her. I'm glad you're there in person to cheer for her, moonvine.

I guess I was worried for nothing. Better to be worried for nothing than for something, eh?
The ..interesting thing I’ve noticed is that she didn’t get a standing ovation, and she’s typically gotten one.
Does this mean people are used to her being back and just expecting her to do well? Would that be a good thing or a bad thing?

I think she liked my flowers y’all ❤️

I have been worried too, the practice reports was so and so and we know she have been dealing with injury, but unsure how it affects her now. I didn´t want to give myself too high hopes.

It was a joy waking up this morning, checking the results and see she went clean again and is now in a bronze position. She is much closer to the podium this year. I guess she was really determined, once again Gracie is far from done ❤️ If i´m not mistaken she will also skate as the second skater in the last group. Isn´t that like the best start order you can have? (I think I heard skaters or commentators say that before). It gives you time to mentally prepare after the warm up, but not wait too long. I hope this pressure isn´t too much for her, I don´t know what her goal is, but if she can have a decent enough skate she can be picked for 4CC if Worlds team will be too difficult (they are not picking the same skaters or?)

Is this the flowers you gave her? :love2:

Now i´m going to watch the SP, i´m excited!

Gracie seems to be in even better mood then last year in K&C, she was so chatty, even sending kisses to James  And she seemed to really like the roses moonvine! Also the reaction right after the skate, where she even fist bumps and said some words to herself!

And that flip, she works so hard getting the flip back, even though it gives her struggle and edge calls. Finally it gave her som decent points!

She is probably a bit fed up with the 67 points for a cleanish SP though, didn´t they even give her higher PCS last year? Just damn it give Gracie 70 points judges

I was super fed up with her score. She got 67 points in Philly in early August with similar skate from International judges. Nationals is known for score inflation so I’d expect it to be higher.

Yes! Those are the flowers. I didn’t give them to her, someone else gave them but I told her after her practice they were coming. So she knows❤️. Also a sloth from @Seven Sisters

As far as her goals go, her stated goals at the beginning of the season were to get 2 International assignments (which she did) and making the Worlds team (unlikely at this point). She does have tech minimums for 4CCs - another change from last year. I don’t know if they will send different skaters. They do what they want.

Ok people. I’m here for the postmortem. I’m not at all certain what to make of this.
First of all her dress was amazing. Sparkles all the way up where I could see them.
And I mean…it wasn’t a total meltdown. She didn’t fall.
I just literally do not know what to think.
And now we all get to go through an entire season of “she won’t make Nationals this year.”
Just shoot me now.

I think she'll get a bye next year... usfs would be dumb to not give her international assignments next season if she continues

I sure hope so. Most of all I hope she gets that hip taken care of. I did look and she was top 8…which is slowly creeping upwards. I halfway expect her to continue. Terry Gannon says she is “chasing her own dream of perfection” and I can’t imagine last night would have been it.

Isn’t it kind of normal for an 8th place finisher to get Senior B assignments?

if we think back to her first years on the senior level, she was never consistent. she's never been consistent. for Gracie, it's a mind game through and through and it's likely something she'll always struggle with.

i don't think there's any reason to doubt she'll make nationals next year. she's reached a level where even with some significant mistakes, she will make it. she has both her lutz toe and axel toe back and her jumps are the best theyve been since her return, even reminiscent of before she left. i think Gracie will be fine.

People keep saying she looks like she hates skating or whatever. I remember when she went to Cranberry 2 years ago and really did not skate well at all. She didn’t make 4CCs minimums with her long. She was very unhappy. Left the K&C before her scores were read. She was having none of it. It hurt me to see her like that. I haven’t seen her look like that since and I’m glad I haven’t.

i think she's had to learn how to compete again since she came back and it's a different game now. it's not as automatic as it used to be for her; she has to think about it more while she's out there. taking significant breaks from competitive skating really, really changes everything when you come back. your body is completely different and so is your mind, and it never comes back quite the same way it once was. in a lot of ways it's like learning how to walk again. i'm not sure if we will ever see Gracie as the competitor she was before her break, but it's truly amazing how far she's come the last 4-5 years. this might be her peak.

She knew I was there too. I always make sure she knows. ❤️

It’s like Terry Gannon said - she’s chasing her own ideal of perfection. I saw her skate that long better in Philly though. She can skate it better with hip healed. Whether she will want to grace us with another year I do not know. I think there’s something she wants to accomplish - 2 clean programs at Nats? I know not.

I wonder what other injuries she hadsas Gracie is wearing a boot on her left foot in a recent picture. I don't think a lot of times commentators including Dave lease aware of what's really going on with skaters. This might be a recent issue though but it might explain why she struggled at us championships in the long. She just looked so good earlier in the year.
