Hanyu update/Olympic berth criteria

It will be judged by the doctor's certificate submitted to the federation at the time of National. However, it will be discussed.
Also in the 2014 Olympic season, takahashi submitted a medical certificate that it will be in time for the Olympic Games and also participated in the National.
However, some people criticized this as arguments.
If hanyu did not participate in the National, it means that it is not in a state to fight 50 days before the Olympic Games
Also, it is obvious that the description of the doctor explained by hanyu for the first time was not as planned.
It will be an argument.
But, the Federation wants to choose hanyu. Because, as with the 2014 Olympic Games, having two candidates for medals eases one's pressure.
After all, I think that it depends on what the doctor's medical certificate is and how the federation judges it

Thank you so much for your very clear explanation!

Are we seriously questioning whether Hanyu will be named for the Olympic team? really? :reye:

Nope, my English must be failing me because I can't imagine a scenario where they would exclude him. Even if he is injured, he will be chosen and the JSF will be visiting every shrine in Japan to pray for his health because he and Uno are the best chance Japan has for medals and they would be stupid to ruin it.

As for the selection criteria, it is just a selection criteria, nothing more. It's not like it is some sacred text that can not be altered or that changing something in it will cause the apocalypse. People may complain? So what? would there be no complaints if he or Uno were not chosen? people complain all the time, you can't make everyone happy :confused2:

Sorry, but this discussion makes no sense to me and I don't see why people keep going back to it over and over again :noshake:

The only way that Yuzuru Hanyu will not be named to the Japanese men's team is the only way that Nathan Chen will not be on the US men's team: if they both run away to join monasteries and cannot be reached by plane, train, automobile or mule drive.

I don't care if the criteria is etched on a granite tablet 85 feet high and engraved with gold.

I mean really??????:palmf:

Selection criteria are similar to rules in sports.
If you can change the rule afterwards, it will not be a fair competition.
At least in Japan, I think it is difficult to choose like 2014 Olympic plushenko.
Also, if any famous athlete is not in perfect condition at the time of the Olympic Games, we can not have good results.
How doctors judge will be a point.

can we stop talking about this now? its only one person who keeps starting up this argument, its clear no one in the world else feels like yuzuru wont be selected as representative because he's NUMBER 1 in the world in figure skating. rabbit1234 please just drop it, you're making people stressed out for no reason. You're worried about figure skating being a fair competition? well guess what? It's not buddy, as much as everyone wishes it might be figure skating will never be 100% fair. Even so, what's less fair to you: letting the number one figure skater in the world go the olympics over an inconsistent skater who gets 7s and 8s for the components, or barring the number one figure skater in the world from the olympics because he was injured at the time of All Japan, which btw, is only one criteria of being chosen as a representative???

Can we have an Olympic Athletes from God team if that actually happens? ;)

I don't see how sending Hanyu to Korea can be controversial as the current men's field of Japan is virtually not as much fierce as the situation in 2014. At that time, Takahashi, Kozuka, Oda, Machida, Hanyu, Mura and others were vying for Team Japan. Hanyu's position is not comparable with Plushenko and Kovtun in 2014 because Japan has THREE spots for the Olympics in 2018 and except Hanyu and Shoma, the Japanese men's field is not like the current Russian ladies (quality-wise..the latter's ho-hum though) My concern is about whom the Japan fed will send to Korea as the third man. Mura and Tanaka are all inconsistent and struggling with injuries while I wonder how Murakami is doing these days. I don't have a slightest idea about who will grab such an opportunity at Nationals.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. This is the worst news. Injuries will upend Olympic predictions.

I will sacrifice my first postgrad paycheck for Hanyu to repeat OGM.

Keiji deserve to go, he's the reigning Japan silver medalist afterall but my personal preference is Tomono.

Yuzu will go, the Kobayashi artikle seem indicate that JSF will let Yuzu do whatever he want as long as he ready for Oly

Off topic, I guess. But the USFSA sent Michelle Kwan to the 2006 Olympics when she could barely walk on land, much less skate.

Is there a deadline for the Olympics? For example I'm a 100% sure Yuzuru will be named for the Olympic Team whether he competes at Nationals or not. But if he (or Shoma, Mura, Tanaka... whoever) is injured and unable to compete come February, until which point can a substitute be named?

I don't know the official rules, but I know that when Michelle Kwan was put on the Oly team in 2006 after she couldn't skate at nationals due to injury, she was able to go to practices and pulled out with enough time for Emily Hughes to be her sub - and the games were already ongoing (IIRC). I assume that they have up until just a few days before the event to use their substitute(s). That's why a lot of countries bring their first alternates... or at least have them on speed dial. It's just a bummer they don't get to participate in the opening ceremonies if they wait that long.

He’s on the team, I wonder if he’ll be in the team event or not if the Fed wants to save him for the individual...

It would be terribly heart breaking if injuries prevent him from going to og though.

Yes absolutely. And to be honest, even the 'third' japanese man is lucky to have Yuzuru and Shoma bringing the third spot. Because they just aren't good enough. If Yuzuru won't go, there are two skaters from Japan that can go who won't be able to crack the Top 10, imho. That is really the worst case scenario. And that makes it so diffferent to 2013 Nationals. Japanese men in general were much better.

This is the selection criterion.

① National winner

② Choose one person in comprehensive judgment from those who satisfy one of the following
A) National 2nd, 3rd
B) Top 2 ISU GPF competitors

③ Comprehensively judging from those who satisfy one of the following, including the athletes selected in ①, ②

A) Applicable to A) or B) of ②, the player who has not been selected from ②
B) ISU World Standing top 3 at the end of the All Japan Championship
C) ISU season world ranking top three at the end of the All Japan Championship
D) Top 3 best scores in the ISU season at the end of the All Japan Championships

* Participation in the All-Japan Championship that is the final selection committee is necessary.
However, if players with proven track record who won the third place in the world championships in the past were unable to participate in the All Japan Championships due to unavoidable reasons such as injuries, before the occurrence of circumstances such as injuries,
There are cases where selection is made while predicting the state at the time of the Olympic Games.

Thank god JSF has learnt lessons from the past and is wiser now, not forcing the best skaters in the world to participate in the Nats when they can't. We all know there are people that just can't stop grudging that it was not the case at the time of past Oly team selection. Nobody is interested now how it was then. Simply irrelevant for Hanyu.

LMAOOOOO truth

Hanyu will be named to the team. If he is still unable to go to the Olympics, that's why there are alternates.
