Hot Air Balloon Tragedy

Yesterday in Surrey, BC there was a horrific hot air balloon accident. The balloon basket caught fire. People had to jump and the balloon landed on an RV park and destroyed three trailers. The worst tragedy of course, was two people died and eleven people went to the hopsital. There was fourteen ambulences, two air ambulences and dozens of fire and police attending.

What an awful tragedy.

My husband has always wanted to go up in a hot air balloon. Me being afraid of heights, no way.

My friend's paid for my hot air balloon ride as by 40th birthday present. My best friend went a long even though she's scared of heights.

This was a freak accident. Hot Air balloons have a high saftey percentage and the pilots have to perform emergency drills. From what I understand, the basket caught fire while it was launching.

It was a beautiful experience. We didn't even notice the lift off because it was gentle. The pilot had complete control - he was able to make it glid just feet off the ground and brush the tops of trees.

I'll be interested in hearing what happened.
