Finally, the SP draw is up. Jason skates first in the final warmup group.
the apocalypse is coming early....First???? As in, *not* last?the apocalypse is coming early....
As Mrs P told me regarding Nats (where he drew last in the SP), it's usually the FS where he's ended up skating last. So there's still a chance we'll avoid the apocalypse.
I have to say, I've found this competition really frustrating. I guess most people attending are fans of specific skaters, so aside from a few blessed souls who do post info / clips of US men, there's been so little information.
Anywat, can't believe SP is tonight! Wondering if I should brave the early rounds or sleep in til 5:00 am....

Now you know how I feel at every other competition featuring Team Australia (particularly Boston Worlds where Brendan had the misfortune of being in the same practice group as Hanyu...)
Well another thing to keep in mind that the U.S. men did not arrive to the 4CC venue right away because they trained in the Olympic training rink in Chuncheon. Really the audience only had access to the U.S. men on day 2. And day 3 men's practice (in the practice rink in the basement) yesterday was during competition so there weren't going to be any reports.
Actually, we might see some reports today during the men's warmup.
Oh I didn't realize that - thanks for pointing it out. I guess warmups should start in about 40 minutes so yeah, maybe we'll hear something.
By the way, I was too lazy to get out of bed and log on to Ice network this morning to watch the ladies, so I watched the Chinese tv livestream (link in post 9 of the links thread) on my phone. It was awesome - very little buffering. That may not be the case tonight for the men though!
Here's hoping that Jason has a clean and beautiful skate tonight.
The Octupus? Pretty good when he's not waving his tentaclesAs Karne mentioned, the Kaz Sport stream was pretty good last night too.

.
I thought it went all right, I'm just really sorry about the fall.
I have absolutely no comments about the PCS. I would, generally, quite a bit for what he got (I am looking at you judge number 9), but just, when PChiddy gets 8.75 on skating skills, it's time to just not comment. Overall I think it went well, and the FS to come!
What concerns me most is that Jason's jumping still looks much weaker than it did at SA - although it's a million times better than NHK. In general he's not getting anywhere near the height and distance he had earlier in the season. In part it looks like a lack of muscle - his legs seem much thinner. It also seems like he may not trust his jumping yet, at least on the 3a and 3z. Hopefully he'll be able to improve those things before Worlds. I really hope he will consider working with Frank for a week or so.
As to the PCS and some of the GOE: I can't even. The only upside is that if Nathan wins Worlds, Jason can come as low as 12 for three spots.
I don't know, I think for being only four-weeks from Nationals and considering his performance at Nationals, he's probably where he needs to be. I didn't have super high expectations for this competition.
The stress fracture is a reset of his season, so I don't think it's even realistic he would be at his Skate America shape right now.
Also the 3A mistake didn't seem like a confidence issue --he had fully rotated it and it barely interrupted the program -- just seem like the landing didn't stick. The lutz UR is a bit mysterious to me-- but that jump is being done with his stress fracture leg -- he had problems with that jump both times at nationals too...But oddly enough his 3F-3T looks great, which is also on the same leg.
