Jason Brown

Well I was happy to see the dance video preview ;) Cmon, isn't this adorable? IMG_5744.png

I like the way he looks with the new do, but I feel like I don't recognize him in some way...I am now anxious about his skating. Will I still love it as much?

YES you will love it! :) Or if you don't, I doubt it will be about the hair. Jason's gone through a lot of recent changes but they seem to be changes he wants. I don't doubt that with new coaches and choreographer and reworking jumps, his skating may look different and it may take a while for everything to come together, but I'm confident that the beauty in his skating will still be there.

I loved the dance video, personally. I know we're all dying for skating clips and more photos with the new hair, but I'm living for the fierceness of this TCC dance trio! Also unlike the other "Dancing through ..." videos this is actual choreography -- and it look super sharp and fierce! I'm looking forward to seeing the entire video. (I thought the IG story was super cool too -- and Jun and those plaid pants. DANG boy.)

Gadbois (the Ice Dance school in Montreal) skaters also post clips from the dance studio (here's one from Gabriella Papadakis). And Mariah Bell/Eunsoo Lim have been posting dance clips too. So I'm cool with Jason's contribution.

I think I just love dance studio videos -- I am always watching the videos when K-pop artists work on choreography.

Also I'm not surprised about the hat. 20-something men always seem to have a penchant for wearing hats like ALL THE TIME.

Given the color of Gabby's hair in the video - dark brown - I think the video was made pre-haircut anyway. According to her latest IG post, Gabby went blonde the same day Jason got his haircut.

Yeah, I was wondering that too. Good observation. :)

And look, a hair photo! Henry Privett-Mendoza is a U.S. novice skater in Toronto for the GTSA/Skate Ontario competition (part of the North American Summer Series) and he (or his mom rather) posted this "before" and "after" shot of the two of them -- guess Henry had long hair too.

Randomly, I actually seen clips of Henry skating before. Turns out he's the son of a friend of one of my friends!

Thanks for this. And a nice comment from the mom as well! In this pic his hair doesn’t see as dark as it did in the salon.

Well, I’m glad you guys are enjoying the dance video. He’s a great dancer, as is Gabby, but I’m just not into it. Maybe when I see the rest, I’ll change my mind, but right now it’s just a little too reminiscent of stuff he’s done with Jordan and his dad. Sorry! However, based on Gabby’s hair color I agree it was probably filmed before he got the new do. So I’ll take back that part of my complaint. :)

It’s nice that Henry’s mom posted those pictures, and I’m glad to see the hair in action, more or less (which is why I was whining about the hat, guys). His hair does look lighter and...a bit puffier here, so I guess there was quite a bit of product on it in the “reveal” shot. He now looks exactly like himself, not Misha...just with short hair. I’ll be interested to see what he does with it for competitions.

Oh please Jason, you’re doing a “sneak peak” not of your FS but of another dancing video...with a HAT? :dev2:

Breathe deeply and accept that it's happened; Jason has been infected by the TCC trolls.
TCC guys are all that's left, Jason's FS, Cha and Zu's programs. And I can just see them snickering because they know how much we want to know. Bad Jason, bad, you're supposed to pick up the good habits!

(I love the dancing though, I think I've been conditioned to accept all the scraps )

That’s hysterical, great perspective!

Have you seen these? I admit, the new clip is an improvement on the first one. But not the second. :)

At least he hasn't embraced the joys of ninja caves... yet.

Yeah, it's so tough to be a Yuzu fan when you have to resort to cute little kids giving you content.

It was only 5 years ago when Jason didn't have any social media, LOL. Ice Network blogs all the way!

And the trolling continues. - Black hearts -- but he's giving fan service with the hair at least. :)

And... IG Story "Hi, I'm Jason! I'm that skater who used to have a ponytail."

Poor Jason looks like he is having buyer’s remorse, although this time Alex Shibutani is part of the chorus of praise with the “Do you like me” in Japanese post:biggrin:

The blond curls I could used to; the dark with product not so much. I think the curls will go with the bluesy short.

And I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope Dave Lease has his spies at Champs Camp so we’ll get at least some hint about the LP:laugh:

I think he's just getting used to the new haircut. Is that buyer's remorse?

I think it's a good cut cause he seems to have more options for it -- it seem with the longer hair he either had to pull it back in a ponytail or manbun. There's room for different textures with this new cut.

People really seem to like it overall though! It seems some folks are going to pay attention to his skating now. It's a pretty good PR move (not that he did it for that reason) when you think about it.

ETA: I read the comments and dang, people are like worried he doesn't like his haircut. To the point of giving advice?! I mean I know he isn't like grinning ear to ear, but I just thought he was trying to keep the  aesthetic.

(Although he did give the "I don't know" emoji.)

Jason did ask the crowd's opinion, and now they are in reassuring mode. Maybe he's not really remorseful, that's good:thumbsup:

And now I vent (surprise): who are these people with "finally" or "you look so much better now (cause you looked so bad before)" or the worst, "Finally, a *mature* look"

Mature? what is so mature about short hair (Or immature about long hair):disapp:

You have to go through me if you dis the pony:dev2:

I like this new picture a lot because he really looks like himself, but different. Interesting how dark his hair looks here - almost as dark as mine!

I agree with Mrs P - he looks like he’s still getting used to the difference in how he looks. He doesn’t look sad, more like “is that really me”? I think the cut was meant to mark a big change, whether it’s “leaving childhood behind” or something else - and every time he looks in the mirror is a reminder of that. Good for him! I’m excited for his future.

It is kinda funny that he’s gotten so much “thank god” feedback. And even funnier still that despite the 18,000+ likes and 900+ rave reviews for the first pic, he’s still asking, do you like it?

Anyway. I bet one thing that will go along with the new hair is a change in kiss n cry demeanor. How will his critics cope? :ddevil:

Human beings are weird about hair, clothing, make-up, if you sit back and think about it. Apart from some practical and safety concerns, most of these attitudes are tied to cultural values and enforced by society. Individuals and groups may innovate but there is often pushback and those innovations may only please one, a few, or many. In short, apart from early stages of infancy there is nothing inherently mature or immature or masculine or feminine (or anything else) about hair length or styles. The cultural values aren't universal or eternal either. My own take is that barring health and safety concerns, ISU rules/regulations, and issues of toxic appropriation (for example, a non-Indigenous person wearing powwow regalia or Indigenous headdresses is a huge NOPE and there are many sites out there by Indigenous folks telling non-Indigenous ppl why), the skater should dress and groom themselves in a manner that works for them. When it comes to dressing for programs we might still discuss whether a skater's look fits the overall program, and ofc some looks will please us more than others, but I think mature, compassionate fans don't have to sink to the level of telling a skater so, unless asked and then in a polite way. And we should always self-check--am I dissing something because of my own biases (misogyny, gender policing, racism, homo/transphobia, etc)? Am I acting entitled or rude? Because that is a lifelong process for everyone: me so very much included.

All that long-windedness to agree with you on the rudeness of those fans. ;)

People are very weird sometimes, not even realising how left-handed some "compliments" can be. ("This character is a crazed, evil psycho - you'd be perfect for the role!" And yes, that's an actual example.;))

Personally, I feel he looked good before - but he looks better now. But that is just a matter of taste.

I think one reason for the change might be that he didn't just want to be "known" for the pony - as if the pony was his identity. He's had it so many years, though, so the way it has taken us by surprise, it has probably surprised him even more. He probably is surprised every time he looks into the mirror, and wonders "Who is that guy?!" (I don't mean that in a profound, existential way - but merely surprised that he doesn't look the way he's looked every day for all those years.:))

Sorry for my meandering - I'm not sure if any of that made much sense; just thinking "aloud", really. But we're all friends here, so I hope that's all right.:)

This was a major change for Jason and I can understand why he is still getting comfortable with it. As I think back on all the young Jason photos he's posted over the years, his hair was never this short. The good news is that now that he's made the plunge, he can try out various lengths / styles until he finds what works best for him.

He could even decide to grow it all back.

Wasn't it the Ted Flett interview from a year ago where Jason hinted that the pony would probably be gone following the Olympic season? I think he's wanted it gone for a while, but it was so tied into his skating identity with the fans that it was kept through last season.

And as long as we're all friends here, I really dislike seeing comments posted to Jason about him needing to smile more. I actually love Introspective Jason and I like that we're seeing other facets of him besides the happyallthetime skater.
