I love the confidence Jason is showing. All the non-quad jumps seem so secure. The 3f is just remarkable. That shaky 3loop has not shown up. The lutz edge is right. The second 3A is fully rotated. Even when he popped the 4t, it looked like a choice rather than a mistake, to avoid zayaking on 3ts or a fall. The 4t is being hit in practice.

I so want him to hit it at Worlds, but who cares? Just now, I am so happy.

Really, he has slacked off on his spins a bit, and the GOE is suffering a bit. He could get 3 or 4 more points overall...maybe it is care, because of the concussion?

I had noticed his spins weren't quite as polished as usual, a bit travelly towards the end though still by far the best in the field. Considering the info that came out from Tanith at Nats - suffering concussion symptoms as recently as December - and knowing from Jason that it really affected his spins I guess it makes sense that they were probably put on the back burner a little bit, especially with the focus on the jumps. However it was also a really quick turn around from Nats, a long flight and jet lag - so I wouldn't be surprised if they're back to perfection by Worlds.
 
My heart cringed for a moment when he popped the toeloop :drama: but what it really counted from then on was that he didn't let that rattle him, and went on to perform one of the performances of his life :love: He almost let me forget about the pop nearing the end of his program, and incredibly, it seemed to have cast the same effect on the judges. His PCS surpassing that of Hanyu's was simply monumental. For once they did the right thing, and I am so happy that the pure quality and excellence of his skating was rewarded as it deserved, and he came almost on top among so many quadsters :2thumbs: Can I hope for a subtle change in the tide?

I agree that the spins are not as much on point, but I attribute that and the popped quad to the short turnaround from Nats. Jason and the other US skaters headed to World's need to peak at World's. But his PCs were right on and most of the GOEs were good. I woke up just before Yuzu skated, so was able to see the live feed and I was more nervous than he was. I knew as soon as he opened his eyes he was going to be ok. I wasn't upset about the 4T either and he skated out of it like nothing happened. That is the victory, along with the silver medal. Despite NHK, this was a very good season for Jason! He's definitely turned the corner!

It’s 2:30 here, but that’s actually not so much past my normal bedtime.;), but when I sleep on it I might have more coherent thoughts.

I was headed back to bed when you wrote this. It took me another hour plus to calm down and get back to sleep, but it was worth it. He skated clean, despite the pop. He got full credit for a 2T. On to World's!
 
I’m so happy for Jason!

Anxious coward that I am, I was strongly hoping I’d fall asleep before the final group so I could just wake up to the results, whatever they were. :drama: No such luck. I considered turning the comp off and listening to something else, but in the end, I forced myself to watch Jason live. Well, I watched the first three jumps through my fingers, and after that I actually watched. :) It was beautiful.

I’m so thrilled that things finally seem to be coming together for him. After such a difficult start to his year, it has been so great to see his increasing consistency and confidence, and it was wonderful to see him strongly rewarded here.

I was thinking that his very first public quad attempt was at 2015 4CCs - remember? So I’m sure he would have loved to put the “Jason Brown doesn’t have a quad” mantra to rest here, once and for all, and you could kind of see a touch of chagrin as he came off ice and went to Tracy. I’m sorry it didn’t happen, but given the short turnaround after Nats, the time difference between Toronto and Seoul, and the long wait he had before skating last, it’s not surprising it didn’t happen. But I hope the silver medal here has finally convinced him - if he still needs convincing- of the value of everything else he does.

Based on his increasingly successful attempts in official practices - he apparently did another good one in the morning practice - I’m sure it won’t be long before he eventually starts landing it consistently in competition, too. Until then, just looking forward to watching everything else he does so beautifully as often as I can.

Okay but can he get his hair trimmed now? Please? :devil:
 
Long time lurker and lover of our Savior Jason Brown. I'm so happy that he won silver at 4CC :hap10: Proving that you can win without that dodgy quad! Bad quad! Behave and let Jason have a perfect skate at Worlds!

Someone said that to me on another site and now i am kinda convinced - don't cut it till after worlds!! At least he gelled it down at the back so it was much tamer looking.
 
It's so funny that Jason's hair is always a topic of conversation, from the ponytail to his longer do right now. I say, let him wear it anyway he wants to. He's skating really well with confidence and the hair does not detract. He looks good! Based on World Standings, he should be in the final flight at World's for the short program. The rest will be up to him! This was a really good competition for Team USA and so many of the skaters. The comp times were tough, but it's been great! I saw both of Jason's skates in real time and am watching replays over the next few days. And will watch replays on Olympic Channel with NBC commentary. Can't get enough of it!

His hair around IdF last year was his peak hair cut for me. Short back and sides and curls on top!! He looked so sharp!! But objectification aside, I really hope he gets some good weeks of training, he's made it into the final SP group for Worlds based on current world standings.
 
What a wonderful competition for Jason! And I am so excited that after following him all these years, I'll finally get to see him skate live at Worlds in Montreal - can't wait!
