Javier Fernandez

Quite late. But at least for now they can train peacefully.

Yeah, things are a lot calmer in Toronto than in the whirlwind of the Olympic Games, but I just worry about jet lag. Is three days enough to overcome that crazy 14-hour time difference?? Then again, these guys are seasoned veterans. They've been all around the world and made countless adjustments. I guess I'm worrying about the adjustment time because my nerves are just frazzled about the upcoming competition :eeking:

To be honest, he would be much better off to somehow not adjust and remain on Toronto time to feel like he is competing in the evening. If such a thing is possible at all, because obviously it goes against the body's natural instincts. :scratch2:

I read someone speculate that Javi could already be in Japan with Yuzuru and Tracy and not have told anyone about it. Though, with the press out there, how could that not leak out?

Well Hielo Espanol tweeted yesterday that Javi would travel to Korea today, although didn't specify from where. But every other source so far said directly from Toronto. But I agree that if they were already in Japan, that couldn't possibly be kept a secret. Not with the craze surrounding Yuzu.

Javi has arrived, together with Tracy: https://twitter.com/sponichisports/status/962632056386670592

...and went straight to the Olympic village: https://twitter.com/COE_es/status/962667561094668289

...and gave a short video interview: https://twitter.com/COE_es/status/962672646717607936

What I think he says: He's tired after the long travel but happy to be there and looks forward to a great day tomorrow at the Olympics. He has been training really well and wants to achieve a great result. There will be a lot of pressure but he has the experience to deal with that. He hopes that everything will go well, he has been training a lot, and wants to show the great work they have done in training.

Lots of press since Javi's arrival, among them:

Article from AS after Javi's arrival, with some really sweet comments from Sara and Felipe. :luv17:

Diario Vasco published an interview from earlier today. Funniest moment: Javi first saying he's won five European titles and then correcting himself - sorry, six!

A short article from Mundo Deportivo but the title is lovely: "I hope to make a lot of people happy" :agree:

4 new videos from Spanish Eurosport's interview - this time not geoblocked:
Better prepared than ever
More experience
Difference between Sochi and PyeongChang
Message to fans

And another instant interview, also from Eurosport.

And a big thank you to Sonia Lafuente who works as correspondent for Hielo Espanol at the Olympics, because she delivered at least a tiny video from Javi's first practice session since arriving, doing a 4S-2T. She also mentions the first practice (short session but he looked comfortable and left being content) in this daily recap video for LaLiga4Sports. So at least we have these even if there were no practice reports once a certain 3A shook the planet. ;) There's also a photo of Sonia with Javi.

Jackie's report on all of Javi's jumps: 3A, runthru (4T2T, 4S(turn), 3A), 4T3T, 3S, 3Lz, 3F, 3A, 3F2T, 3Lz

We were wondering about that 3F2T - could it be that Jackie got it wrong and it was actually 3A+2T?

The media coverage continues - an absolutely fabulous interview from Inside Skating done in Moscow.

Bryan interviewed in Spanish EFE.

The practice session Wednesday morning will be at the same times as the pairs competition, so probably no report from that will be available.

His own coach, Brian Orser, thinks Javi is “our poster child for what we believe in skating – I say we, I mean Tracy Wilson and myself”. That's probably the biggest and most meaningful compliment a coach can give to an athlete.

Great that Javi has arrived safely!!! So many interviews, etc,. fantastic that he is so much noticed and that might give him more confidence actually, I think.

Javi had a good draw for the sp, only Jin to skate after him, doesn´t he?

LaLiga4Sport reports daily with Sonia Lafuente as one of the reporters, yesterday she chatted with Javi about the times training together in Spain.

And Tracy Wilson interviewed in Spanish for Marca.

A couple of pics
from the previous practice (Feb 14; there's much more on their FB page). And two clips of 4S and the flip combo. From Jackie Wong: "Fernandez: 3S, 3F, 3F1/2Lo3S, 3A2T, 4T, 4T, 4S(step), runrthru (4T(fall), 3A2T, 4S(fall), 3A, 3F, 3Lz1/2Lo3S), 4T, 4S(step), 4S(step)"

The whole last group can get 100+ scores if they skate good... Makes my stomach go in big knots already.

Not the best practice session of Javi's life obviously. :rolleye: But hey, I've seen him faultless in practice and then do mediocre programs in competition, so I would be more than happy to take the opposite. ;)

Loads of photos from today's practice on the Spanish Olympic Committee's Facebook page, with Brian and Tracy in full Team Spain attire again. They are so sweet! And the COE now has a picture of Javi as their cover photo. :agree:

Another interview for AS, this time Javi talking about the Sochi incident, Yuzu's injury among other things.

And a piece from Marca about Felipe which reveals that, to no one's surprise I think, he is Javi's roommate at the Olympics. :) And of course Felipe again says lots of nice things about Javi.
