Kaetlyn Osmond

had plan to post it in general Ladies SP GPF thread, but the discussion got onto 'cheaters' subject, I thought it would be for the best to show my appreciation here for Kaetlyn who did make herself and us the best birthday present ever by that SP performance:)

I spoke many times that this is an amazing program itself, sourcing from Kaetlyn's best performer abilities, powerful outlook and maturity in elements' integration she already has on a very high level, but today I somehow noticed how intricate and musical it is - not only in 'general' sense about using chansons of Edith Piaf and making it flow with the choreography overall, but in every little detail/transition shown. I noticed how perfect and fluid was her rhythmic/lyrics' accentuation throughout the whole performance, for example: movement and hands' gesture at 'sous le ciel du Paris' moment, transition into first spin (the pointing 'peuple' by movement was sick) and hand phrasing along with melody/lyrics during the spin itself, whole transitions leading to solo jump (control over upper body part was especially remarkable), pacing on the step sequence with such nice and polished contrasting showy/quick part and slower one, then the quick change of the tempo at the end so amazingly reflected in her powerful entrance to the spin...I could name it even longer.

The thing that really popped this time for me - as you can guess based on above;) - is how intergated the program is in every area, the fow of it, effortless feel and making things easy looking still gaining their difficulty. All done wth such panche and smile - Kaetlyn really felt so relaxed and enjoying herself, yet so much in control over every aspect of her performance. What's very important for me is that she seemed so engrossed into music, into moment and into presenting the program - the engagement and this ;forward' focus on interaction, emoting, interpretation not only of the music/theme chosen, but also of the choreography and the design of movement. The program felt alive and complete - thank You, Kaetlyn, for bringing a piece of Parisian elegance and 'je ne sais quoi' feel to me!

Despite the mistakes in her free skate, for me this was the first time that I really bought into this program and Kaetlyn as the Black Swan. When I first saw this program at the Autumn Classic I thought that Kaetlyn and her team couldn’t have made a more unflattering musical choice to complement her skating style. Sous le ciel du Paris is so bombastic and is a natural fit for her speed and strength, but Swan Lake? No way.

Boy, did she change my mind here. For the first time I really saw her performance of the character come out and it was wonderful! I like Zagitova as much as anyone, but Kaetlyn’s maturity and commitment to the seductive nature of Odile really made it all that more obvious that the Black Swan isn’t really meant for a 15 year old. And her arms! So expressive and balletic! I was truly impressed. I hope Kaetlyn can put together a clean performance at least once before the Olympics, because I think this program is really starting to come together as a cohesive whole.

^^ Yes vesperalvioletta, I saw a few on here say the same thing. I can't wait to see her FS again once she has a few more months at it. Excited for KO for sure!

Always so well written and wise beyond your years. Thank you, NoNameFace!

:), thank You Osmond4gold, it's nothing easier than to be inspired by the skater and performance he/she produces, words are flowing by themselves.

Kaitlyn was the Lady who impressed me the most at GPF - her FS, although not perfectly executed, had already a lot of seductive, powerful and sensual vibe I would expect from this program. I'd rather leave all Swans in the ballet stage and focus more on how the story is told/interpreted in actual FS program; wearing a tutu or having feathers in the costume don't make a skater a Swan, balletic arm movement and posture straight from Vaganova Academy do not make skater a perfect one - it's quite funny for me that so many people are sticking to this one, particular image for 'Swan Lake' piece, because even Aronofsky's 'Black Swan' movie put the classical piece and the story woven inside of it in much broader perspective. Nina was a ballerina, but her character, complicated relationships, ill-like strive/obsession about perfection were centrepieces of the story for me, where 'Swan Lake' ballet was a platform to tell the story and some perspective to portray Nina's story in. I feel that it could be also translated into choosing 'Swan Lake' as a program in FS - skater can 'submit' to the actual story and Swan image (and there's nothing wrong with that, because Mao Asada's 'Swan Lake' interpretation from 2012/13 season is one of my all-time favourites), but he/she can also challenge themselves with some non-literal interpretation, making stress more on character/vibe of the character, not the exact outlook of it.

I very much respect Kaetlyn's bravery and determination to 'break in' this 'Black Swan' program concept, sticking to it. I see the progress in her presentation each time, just thinking that it might be too much of second-guessing herself during that second part of the program and losing the grip over execution - I still enjoy the program and if it has to be the only once it will be executed cleanly (when it matter the most) - I'll take it;)

I really hope at least some of us can come together and show Kaetlyn in person our support next Saturday please! Raise her spirits before the Olympics!

The fact I have a special present for her and another for her coach Ravi coming just in time might have something to do with it... and since I don't know if Kaetlyn herself reads the forums not giving away too many hints. I want it to be a surprise as loud and sweet as Abbotsford!

Kaetlyn, wishing you the best of experiences at Canadians this week!

I can’t wait for you to continue to amaze me with your powerful skating, beautiful line and extension and joy in presentation. Your Edith Piaf SP I find epic, and I so appreciate how the less orthodox and edgy interpretation of your Black Swan FP has grown in steady increments…I believe to its ultimate performance next month in Korea.

Follow your dream girl – you ARE that good! :yes2: :cheer:

Wow. Strange mistakes, and unexpected result at Nationals? Is Kaetlyn injured?

Whatever. It's better that such things happen now, than at the Olympics.
There's still time to iron out any issues...

Well I'm home now, so you can see the surprise yourself by clicking through the Instagram post here. Decided well flowers die in a week and may not even survive the flight home, decided to also bring the spirit of Abbotsford Airshow and the CF-18 Demo to Kaetlyn herself. Got real, real lucky I got on the first buses from the hotel to practice and who did I see strolling into the arena but Coach Ravi? A moment later, our Comeback Kid getting ready for practice!

Kaetlyn Saturday performance photos up too - be nice or be silent. Thanks.

I was going to my seat on Friday and had to cut through a couple of open areas to get to my section of the arena. There were a lot of people and cameras and I wondered what was going on. I turned around to see Kaetlyn stretching by a wall, with Ravi by her side. She had her headphones on so I couldn't tell her I was a fan! Still, I thought I had wandered into a "no-go" area by accident! Also, Gabby and Larkyn and a few other ladies were all there, warming up!

Rest assured you didn't wander into a no-go area. I had the privilege of being there Saturday overlooking the kiss-n-cry area and giving the comeback kid a high five as Kaetlyn headed down to suit up and comeback to win the silver.

Nice work! I was there all day Saturday as well. Didn't see any of the ladies that day, but I did run into some of the men and a couple of pairs were wandering around (poor Dylan).

Some good news for us Kaetlyn fans:

With the Games now just four weeks off, Osmond will return to Edmonton to try to work out the glitches that surfaced in both her short and long programs at the Canadian championships this past weekend.
“It will be just more repetition (skating the programs), more focus on each element just to get clean programs done so I can skate great there,” Osmond said.
Her long-time coach Ravi Walia noted, “I think Kaetlyn is on the right track. There’s a couple of adjustments that need to be made, but she is definitely ready to succeed at the Olympics. Looking at her personality, she’s a pretty easy-going, low-stress person. She loves the pressure and excitement of competition and she’ll be prepared.
“We want to peak at the Olympics, and I think she’s on track for that.”
. . .
“The last few years, I’ve noticed Canadian ladies are willing to risk more (difficult jumps) to fight and be medal contenders. We’re not just competing to be the best in Canada, we’re now competing to be the best in the world.”

Kaetlyn and Gabby are going to podium, for sure.
