Kimmie gears up for Worlds

re:

I'll balance it out, though, by giving credit to her- making a mistake in her program REALLY seems to put the fight into her and she makes doubly sure that she doesn't make another one for the rest of the program. In other words, she doesn't let it break her, she lets it motivate her throughout the rest of the program.

Also, Asada hasn't been completely solid, either. She followed a mediocre SA with a strong NHK, and then followed with another mediocre GPF, falling TWICE. Didn't see her JN performance but heard it was strong. (See a trend here? Uh-oh. ;) )

It may only take one bobble or misstep to put you out of WC contention- so not only Kimmie but Mao needs to watch it as well.

Hopefully the trend won't continue ;-) I want Mao at her best at Worlds, if only to motivate other skaters to do their best. If a top skater crashes, the rest often do less impressive programs.

Imagine if either Irina or Sasha were at their best in Torino? Then Arakawa would have pulled out her triple-triples and we would have all benefited from a set of strong programs from all the top ladies. But Arakawa played it safe and did what she needed to win. If Mao breaks down, Meissner will play it safe. Yuna though won't. She seems to always put her best in every competition, although this time her injuries may prevent it ;-(

Yu Na Kim

I am with you Joe. I think Yu Na Kim is the one to watch at Worlds. Mao has had an iffy year. Kimmie has been inconsistent. I would bet on Yu Na Kim who I think is the more complete skater overall.

I agree, although "playing it safe" in Meissner's case would likely mean just no 3A. She'll likely still do two 3-3's, which I really can't call conservative, especially with what we've had in the past.

Kimmie certainly didn't back down though when Cohen left the door wide open at Worlds 06...a top skater blowing the roof off seems to have the opposite effect a lot though from what I can see- it scares the other competitors into making mistakes and/or playing it safe "not to lose" which we all know does not work. (Latest example: Weir skating after Lysacek at Nationals)

As for Torino that's passed, really. We don't know what would have happened but Arakawa looked the most prepared of the three. But if a skater before her blew the roof off, would that have motivated her or scared her? The X-Factor yet AGAIN.

That's the safe thing to say, but her injuries could complicate things.

No kidding.

Mathman - I really meant 'Kimmie losing' by implication. The poor thing has a tirade against her. Some will tell you who they wish to win (Mao) and some - the negative posters really don't want anyone to win.

All I do is pick out the one I think is the best, win or lose. and that is Yuna whether she is injured or not.

Well seems to me that Arakawa would have not been intimated by a much stronger performance either from Sasha or Irina. She kept her cool in the short and managed to do really well, even though she likely knew that these two were not going to screw up on the short. That's just my opinion, but of course I can't be certain.

nobdy is a shoe in for gold. Mao, who probaly whould have easily won last year, is not coming into the competion unbeatable at all. Her triple axel has been landed this year, but not in international competion, and she certainly won't do two as she did at japanese natioanls in 2005. Kimmie probably won't need the triple axel to win, unless mao lands it. It will be like the men at natioanls. Johnny only did a wuad, because evan did. Kimmie is probably hoping she will skater after mao, and then decide her moves based on mao's performncae.

I disagree. In Japan especialy Kimmie will have to do much harder jumps then Mao to beat her. Mao will definitely score higher on GOE and PCS, and Mao will also have a huge lead after the short if she skates her short like she has all year.

yes, Mao will probably win, but she skated a perfect short at the GPF, and still wound up fourth in the freeskate. Her huge score from the SP however gave her 2nd overall. Yes, Mao's PCS will be higher than kimmie's and her spirals are probaly a level three or four, while i would give kimmie a 1 or 2. Kimmie has proven herself a tough competeior, and Mao will be the clear favorite, at home... a lot of pressure.

On this note, does anyone have a good vid of that 4CC FP? All the ones I found on youtube were really bad.
Spun Silver, did you ever get a good copy of Kimmie's program? If not and you don't mind downloading it I can try and get it for you this weekend.

Let me know.

Dee

Hey, guys I'm new.

I think she'll do pretty well (At least bronze I hope). I love her LP this season and I hope she hits every move perfectly.

BTW, that triple axel that she did at the end of the video was really good
