Ladies LP - actual competition

Congrats to Yu-Na for winning her first 4CC title. Like everyone has already said, at least she went for the loop.

I think all 3 top finishers were a bit disappointed with their performances tonight. I hope to see all of them in better spirits at Worlds.

The biggest thought I have about tonight is that Caroline needs to go to Worlds if US wants to get those 3 spots. Enough said.

Anyone know who South Korea is sending to Worlds with Yu-Na? I'm guessing it's Na-Young Kim, but I would soooo rather see Lil'/Mini/Tiny Kim go.

But being a judge, you are supposed to look at everything objectively and give your honest score.

And as fans, we can look objectively at the scores passed out at competitions, and spot anomalies like giving 7 points higher in PCS to a LP with only three clean triples, compared to two other LP's with 7 triples attempted and 6 cleanly completed. Especially considering the international judges' PCS for the same skaters. I'm going with objective facts. What objective facts suggest that the US judges are not holding up or down certain skaters??

I liked the whole event very much.
Joannie was very good, I must say.

It's a pity that Yuna fell, but it seems that overall it's OK with her. I am glad she won, she deserved that at 100%.

Now let's wait for the Worlds to come...

Well, the U.S. is looking pretty screwed for Worlds. Maybe next time they will rethink holding up a 3 triple program. It's just not going to get the job done internationally.

Also, I think Caroline should have won bronze here. The judges still will not allow themselves to keep a "star" off the podium. Whatever.

Joannie impressed me though. She seems to be handling all the pressure just fine.

Looks like every jumps of Joannie are counted. Then why is her score so low?? There is no way her performance should score lower than Mao. Her technical elements were better and please don't tell me today's Mao's performance was better than Joannies in PCS wise. I am really pissed!!

Joannie only got credit for a 3T+SEQ for 3.52 points, so no credit for the 3S there.

I agree that Mao's PCS were held up too.

You gotta be kidding me. Downgrade on Yuna's 3Lz and 2L? Well, I need to watch her performance again to check it but usually Yuna's combination 2L is really, really more rotated than most of other ladies. I remember her 3Lz in combination had somewhat shaky landing but was it underrotated? I don't think so. HD clip needed ASAP!!

welcome to figure skating - it is a judged sport - I enjoyed alot of the performances but in no way would I be able to determine the outcome -this is why people are losing interest in this sport - someone needs to make some changes -

No, it does not. But being a judge, you are supposed to look at everything objectively and give your honest score. As a fan, one should respect the decisions the judges make because if they already think people are saying they are being bribed, they are more likely to do it anyway. Also, almost all of the time the blames are made by people feeling angry or confused about the results of a competition, and fusing their feelings into those statements-maybe without even realizing it. Once the scores are in, they're in. No amount of complaining is going to change what already happened, so one might as well have faith in judges rather than accusing them of things they probably aren't even doing.

What are you, the judges' mother? We can question their decisions if we like, especially if we feel they are unfair. It seems silly to have faith in people simply because of their profession. If they're giving weird scores or GOEs, then it is acceptable to question it. And just because we can't change it, doesn't mean we can't discuss it. -___-

So if the US gets 2 spots for Worlds, we'll all sigh and say, "If only Caroline had skated there for us ..."

is that a royal "we?" because I won't be complaining. I'm already prepared to shrug it off. if it happens it happens.

sending "only" two ladies to the olympics does not make the end of the world.

I rest my case on holding up skaters - what other lady would get a +GOE for an element that doesn't even count

Well I wouldn't say it never happens but I also think that some of these judges should not be judges, that is my theory, why else would that happen,
plain stupidity.

The LP could have had other elements besides jumps that gave it a higher score.
The fact is-from my objective observations-,people are just paying attention to the jumps and neglecting other parts of the program.

I really want to see a replay of Kim's Lutz. Normally I am really good at spotting underrotations, but with Kim I just don't look at it, especially not at the Toejumps.

Zhang got 0 GOE on most of her jumps, that's something she could really work on. She has zero flow out of them... But in the end, great program for her. Good GOEs on the non-jump elements. The PCS is decent, I think the less-than-stellar skating skills and the weird jumping technique really play a role there. Speed was okay though. I really liked her tonight.

I want to know it. Kim's 2L is always better than Asada.
Rochette's performance is always better than Asdada.
Moreover, today their mistakes is lower than Asdada.

Not only Kim and Rochette. How about Zhang?
She is slow but Asada is not so fast.
How terrible.

I'm so glad Caroline got to come to 4CC and earn the highest TES and placed atop the US ladies!:rock::rock: Even with her 3F-3T< downgraded in both programs.

She would've been so discouraged to finish off the season at National's, skating her best possible programs and changing her LP last minute to improve her chances, and attempting 10 triples and getting 9 ratified in the two programs, and *still* doesn't make World's in her hometown and gets slapped with the edge calls on her 3F when she's still trying to improve on the 3Z (which looks better edge-wise, btw!). She skated with a lot more confidence tonight (especially the second half) than she has all season. Great job! USFSA will be stupid to not give her a chance to go to Olympics next year if she continues to shine at the international competitions. ;)

I'm sorry if I made you upset, I was just stating my opinion on people constantly saying that everything about skating has corruption problems. It was up to other people to respond to the statement I made. Feel free to discuss what you want about these score, I was just saying what I thought and it would be an interesting topic to discuss and debate about this competition. I'm sorry if you were offended about that.

What a great ladies event! I cannot wait for the World Championships and the fierce battle for those coveted Olympic spots. It seems like Canada will have a good chance of securing 3 spots while the Americans will have an extremely tough time. Good for Caroline Zhang though! I just wish she could have done this well at Nationals. Congrats to all the medalists!

she was one of the slowest skaters on the night - hard to believe she received the highest scores -
