I thought the results so far seemed fair. For whatever reason the technical specialist downgraded Zhang's triple flip apparently. He downgraded Meissner as well. And Hughes, so it wasn't just punish the newbie.
Personally, I thought Meissner was the best one theretonight. \I liked this skate by Caroline, much better than the US vs Japan skate....Do newer skaters get the top PC scores, No. But that's what happens. Skating is a judged sport and reputation plays a role.
But seeing as the last two Ladies Grand Prix finals champions were newbies senior year. Two of last years world medalists were new (and they had the highest PCS in the competition) I think the judges are pretty darn to start giving a deserving skater higher scores.
Every skater has to be the newbie in the beginning, so every skater has to deal with it.
Unfortunately, the whole practice of playing favorites doesn't limit itself to just to the newbies. I' ve been lurking on these boards and have heard people complain about how the judges tend to bring Joannie Rochette's PCS scores down to a level that is far below that of what she accomplishes in her programs.
