Ladies Short Program

But under 6.0, would there be even the slightest chance that Laura Lepisto would (deservedly) be in the lead right now?

I think there's not the slightest chance she'd be in first under 6.0. One of the good things about COP is that it does force the judges to recognize unknown names who have a great skate. There's still room for manipulation, of course, but if someone lands the only 3-3 in the competition, they're going to be rewarded.

Emily had the easiest SP on paper. No 3+3. She'll likely be the same for the LP, so if the others rebound from today, I don't see her with the gold.

wohoooo Laura go Finland!!! She has the basics to die for and once she nails the jumps it's pretty amazing!! Wouldn't have expected quite a result like this though..Finland is really kicking some butt in ladies' skating now with Vähämaa, Pöykiö, Korpi and Lepistö!

Plus, I predict that 20+ points separates her and Asada tomorrow. As for this Lepisto girl, she'd better be mad proud of herself tonight, because from what I hear, the LP content just won't cut it to assure a medal. Probably not even top six.

btw Laura has at least a lutz in her free program so i wouldn't predict her out of the top 6 quite yet :)

Oh, that's nice. I hope she nails it. Do you know how old she is? I've seen her for the first time today. I wish she would at least medal at this event.

I think it's too close to call. The top six are, what, 5-8 pts apart?

I hope the freeskate is telecast live on the same channel.

She is already 19. But only thing she really has to work with is the lutz. Once she nails it, she has everything she needs. Other skaters have done without compleate set of triples before her.

Plus... the new edge call for lutz and flip will definitely punish massive amount of ladies.

really shocked at the standings

Damn, ANYONE would be.

Wow. Equally shocked as everyone else. Who's this finish girl anyway? I can't wait to see. Yay that an underdog won the short! Hope she does super well in the long to get a medal.

Some information about Laura lepistö:

-She was second in Finnish nats last year, above Korpi and Drei but was not sent to Euros.
-She is coached by Virpi Horttana, who also coaches Jenni Vähämaa who won Finlandia Trophy with score of 163. Jenni also beat Kostner there.
-Laura has done well in Finlands junior ranks for years, and finnised 7th in JWW last year.

Glad that the flutz police was not just a one night thing at SA, this make everything more exciting and fair. IF ONLY , they do something about PCS scores, stop using it to held skaters who were unlucky to end up in the wrong group.

If Mao has a "great" long program she will blow the others away. She isnt far back at all. The others still dont have a prayer if she is back to her normal self tommorow.

Yeah, I guess it's wishful thinking on my part to think that Emily has a chance against a clean Mao.... But, I actually do like nail-biter ;-) I guess, for it to be close, Mao would have to make quite a few mistakes......
