Ladies Short

Me thinks if Mao came in first today in the SP this thread would be a lot calmer.

LOL! And a lot of the people complaining are the ones judging Yu-na fans' behavior.

Hey but if you notice (there's no Mao/Yu-na battle for once)

Yes, I noticed that. I think Rochette fans have behaved quite well, driving home points without degrading into a pissing contest.

I'm not sure about that. In fact, I think it would be even crazier. Of course, assuming the skates were exactly the same. If she outright won, then you may have a point.

Because no one (maybe except Canadian fans) considers Rochette as a top skater comparable to world medalists. I think Mao with one mistake should always be ahead of perfectly clean Rochette. Yuna Kim's score at worlds SP was very close to Rochette's. At least she landed a triple (f)lip-triple toe combo.

First, comparing scores from one competition to the next has proven to be quite pointless.

Second, you seem to be saying that it doesn't matter what the skaters actually do on the ice in a given performance, where you see them ranking on the world scene should decide how they place? Why on earth should a perfectly clean Rochette not outscore Asada with a mistake? And, relevant to this competition, why should a Rochette with one error not outscore Asada with two costly mistakes?

It seems to me this is finally what the judging system is supposed to do.

No, I would be very upset if Mao came in 1st with that program!!

Thank you for that. One of the few posts in here from one of Mao's fans that isn't over the top about the results and also giving us an calm post about what he/she thinks about Mao's performance.

As for the rest...Thank you one and all for the laughs tonight. I needed them after a somber Rembrance Week here.

bekalc...I think you hit the nail on the head. Joannie's finally proving all the potential is finally coming together and that frightens fans of certain skaters. So, of course a good portion of some of the childish and disgusting posts, some not all have been "shared" in here.

Face it, Joannie had a one mistake skate compared to Mao's 3 and if she was off the music as some are saying, that's another ding in the marks. Even w/the high marks, it's not that big a margin between the two and who knows what'll happen in the LP's tomorrow.

However, instead of some of Mao's fans being graceful about what happened, I feel like I just waded into an out of control Kindgergarden in here. That's not fun to read the entire thread when things have gone that low.. Even w/some of the entertaining posts from certain posters.

Thank God Joannie's finally showing her true potential, improvement and is being a true threat this year. Now instead of it just being Yu-na, Mao, Mai and Yukari, along w/Lepisto and Kostner, we've got another skater to talk about being a threat. That makes things far more exciting and the sport better for it.

As for those "claiming" Joannie didn't deserve her SC title. I was there in the building that night. Not only did she deserve it, she blew the rest of the field out of the water. If you're looking for some reason to keep picking on the girl, find something else to use. Her performances at Skate Canada this year aren't it!!

Actually, before I (a BIG Joannie fan) start claiming she is finally showing her true potential, I would like to see her land that 3-3 first.

No, I would be very upset if Mao came in 1st with that program!!

Me too. As bekalc mentioned, I definitely think there's a valid argument that her marks could have been lower. I wouldn't resort to mudslinging or calling Mao names as has been done to Joannie, but I would definitely see the injustice had it happened.

I think both girls were overscored. (frankly) But to hear people complaining about the short program results is really more than just a bit much. I highly doubt Mao thinks the result is unfair.

mistakes or not, i am amazed at how much Mao has grown up over the summer. She looks thinner, taller and very, very mature. Her whole way of moving is much more sophisticated, there is much less "just stroking" than last year. Beautiful music choice (i think they could have cut it better), nice dress, i can't wait until she skates it clean.

Wow. What a surprise.
Thought Mao was gonna blow everyone away, but guess not.

I like her last year's program much better than this year's. Maybe I need to watch her perform another time at NHK to determine which one I like better. But I felt that having too much transition and choreography kind of disrupted the softness of the music. Eh, also, I like the piano version way better than whatever version Mao is using, so I was a little disappointed.

Caroline's performance was definitely better than the one at SC. Did she get her jump downgraded?

Joannie.. after that fall on 3F, I think she recovered pretty well. I really like her program this season, but her scores were high considering she missed her combo.

Both Mao and Joannie were overmarked, but at least judges were right placing Joannie above Mao IMO. Mao made a costly mistake doubling her (f)lutz.

Well, some countries are known to have very enthusiastic sports fans, and it's not surprising their media will happily meet the demands.

Ok, I just rewatched the ladies SP, and I can say that I LOVED Caroline's step sequence. She seemed to give it so much more energy than she did in Canada and she seemed a lot happier as well.

Joannie is starting to grow on me. I never really watched her skate. I think I'd like her more if she loosened up a bit.

I really don't know what to think about Mao's SP. Some bits of the choreography didn't seem to go with the music. I usually love her programs, but this one didn't really seem to pull me in like some of her others (like her Nocturne SP).

I disagree I think that Mao missed two elements. Rochette ONE.

Mao also failed to do a solo triple jump, doubling it instead — which is two botched jump elements to Joannie's one.

Uh, no, you people don't seem to understand.

Joannie certainly made two mistakes - she fell on her Flip and then completely left out the second jump. That is why falling in the first jump of the combo in the SP is so harsh. You just missed two things.

Mao singled her second jump of the combo (almost as bad as leaving it out completely) and she doubled her Lutz (equally as bad or a bit worse than falling).

The fact of the matter is that Mao received a deduction for failing to do a complete combo and Joannie did not, even though she made the same mistake. The current CoP has blatant flaws and this is yet another of them.

Here's my point.

Frankly, I pretty like Mao's programme, but I'm really curious why her TES can be 29 since she poped a 3loop and double her lutz (not sure if a flutz or lutz), she skated a little slower than usual (IMO). As to the PCS, I think it is quite fair, she deserves 29 comparing with others.

And I don't know why somebody argued Joannie was overscored. Hey guys, comparing with SC, it's much more fair, OK? She definitely should be on the list of top skaters!

anybody knows what's wrong with elene GEDEVANISHVIL?? She used to be one of the promising skaters

Mao got one more point for her triple flip than Joannie got for hers....But hey that's what the combination is.

I've always understood that when you fall on the start of a combo, get up and keep on going w/out doing the combo, that counts as ONE element.
