Legacy on Ice: Benefit to Support AA Flight 5342 Victims

Finale...all the skaters take to the ice in a giant line. Madi & Evan have a step out feature rotational lift. Ilia steps out for a one foot back flip. Amber performs a gorgeous combo spin. The group form a heart and takes one final bow.

A special moment for me was Max Naumov and Ilia performing spread eagles opposite each other.
It was right before Ilia's back flip.

It was wonderful. My favorite number was "Imagine" ... especially because the wondrous Nathan Chen began it with such gorgeous arms, amazing skating, artistry and passion. Then so many joined the ensemble. Just beautiful ... especially Alisa and Misha, Madison and Evan, I'm sure I'm missing some of my own favorites. I'll be re-watching this. Ashley Cain was part of this number also.

I was very touched by Ilia Kulik's number. Katia wrote that she and Ilia were expecting Liza while Zhenya and Vadim were expecting Max; they were all neighbors and good friends during that time.

I just watched Max's performance. Not surprisingly, I cried. Children have to say goodbye to their parents and I personally experienced the pain it brings. I had time to prepare and still it broke me for very long time. He didn't have any. I hope he finds peace and comfort.

A very touching tribute show. I totally lost it when Max skated. So grateful he was supported by his SCOB training mates. So many heartfelt programs (especially from Johnny, both Ilias, Jimmy, Camden, Andrew, Isabella, etc.). Thank you, Peacock for airing the whole show. Please keep it up for more than your usual 1-2 days.

The whole event is on YouTube this morning; rewatching over coffee.. it is spectacular and beautiful, pulled together in such a short time. Each performance just lovely..
And I always lose it hearing “Memory”.. 🙏
And Max😓💔 no words

I thought it would be appropriate to translate the song Maxim skates to:

Eternal night, eternal silence
falling rain, or maybe it's sleet.
All the same, for hope eternal
and for warmth, I behold
the city that doesn't exist.

There, where there's a wanderer's haven,
There, where they wait and remember me.
Day after day,
losing my trek and retracing steps,
I plod on to the city that doesn't exist.

There, they lit a hearth for me,
like a beacon for all the forgotten truths.
I'm but one step away from it, only one,
and this one step is longer than life.

This tribute was SO BEAUTIFUL, all of it! The circumstances are truly awful, but I very much appreciated seeing the fundamental humanity of everyone involved. At competitions and even competition galas, skaters are typically so put-together, so rehearsed, because they have to be. Legacy on Ice was a reminder that skaters are humans first, underneath their drive and competitiveness. They're all humans and, particularly evident here, humans who really care about each other and others. I will probably post specific thoughts in various Fan Fests at some point, but I'm just grateful right now for what yesterday showed me. Bravo to ALL the skaters, presenters, camera people, behind-the-scenes people, EVERYONE who helped make this happen. It was unforgettable, even for those of us watching it on a computer screen.

 :thank: :ghug:

Also, today the YouTube stream is not geoblocked in the U.S. Do we know if the YouTube stream will stay up forever, or only for a short time? It appears Peacock will be up for the "normal" 48-hour window. I have downloaded the whole stream from Peacock, if anyone wants to watch it via a Dropbox link. I was planning to post the link in this thread, but if YouTube is going to stay up, it might be unnecessary.

EDIT: My next post in the thread has the Dropbox link.

In case the YouTube video disappears, here is the Dropbox link. One quirk - In the web browser, it will only play the video for up to two hours, but if you download it and open it on your own computer, the whole video plays. (I didn't know this until today, because I usually only keep certain programs, but I can't bear to lose any of this stream).

Legacy on Ice - Entire Tribute

MAJOR EDIT TO THIS POST! Around 12:00pm Eastern on March 4, the main tribute video (whole show) as well as the individual videos I was so excited about, disappeared from the USFS YouTube. The long video says it's now private, so maybe the others are, too. If you'd like to rewatch the show or parts thereof, see my previous post for the Dropbox link. My observations below still apply, so they stay.

Max's solo and the SCOB group number flowed right into each other and we could really see how much they supported each other. An example of mourning together and comforting each other that is so profound to me. The group hug/cry after. The way Jimmy is holding on to Max, and then Jimmy takes Max's hand, the hand still holding the candle, and raises it up, as if to say, "Literally and figuratively, I am here to hold you up whenever you need me." So incredibly moving, and I'm glad the camera caught those precious moments.

2nd Edit: Peacock says the show is available there for 11 more hours, so that would be end of day today, March 4.

The TODAY show had a short segment where they showed a few clips from the show. There was a short interview with Nathan, Kristie, Brian, Peggy, and Scott. I'm sure it will be on their web site later.

New detail to me: News voiceover says, "Max has taken over coaching his parents' athletes." Then Brian says, "That's something that's cathartic and helps [Max] through it." 😭 :love2:
