-One year ago you started working with skater Masha Sotskova. How do you rate the last season?
- Masha spent his first season at senior level, and I am glad that the athlete was fixed in the first team. When we started, in the first years of collecting, I saw how hard it was Masha. But she survived, right, endured and went on. All of us, coaches - Maxim Zavozin Marina Selitskaya, choreographer Irina Tagaeva on GPP coach tried to help the athlete overcome the "junior barrier" because the work at the junior and senior level is different.
Masha - a man of great diligence. If it was not, there would have been its results. Prior to joining CSKA Masha trained with remarkable coach Svetlana Panova, which not only resulted in the athlete to silver World Junior Championships, winning the Grand Prix Final, but also instilled in her a very important quality. Masha did not have to explain for a long time. She goes and does, while still she adds. All of these skills do not occur suddenly. They should be laid in childhood.
To enter into the adult part, Masha had to step up, and we knew exactly what she wanted to add. For me it is important that at the end of the season, foreign experts said that the Russian team appeared not just another athlete, and the athlete is interesting, with his face and style.
And this is indeed the case. Masha - tall, with beautiful hands, looks interesting on the ice. But these external data - the growth (and Masha continues to grow, form) creates certain difficulties. High skater doubly hard, we have to work harder.
-Now in your group will train another strong athlete Elena Radionova.
-I would not yet talk much on this topic. All known examples where one group practice strong athletes. For example, Yuzuru Hanyu and Fernandez.
The emergence of Lena in our group came as a surprise. Although I know an athlete since childhood, she always trained nearby. This is our girl. I know its advantages and disadvantages, problems. I know that the character of Lena uneasy. But Masha in all its intelligence with girl, strong character. But the way it should be. Other skater, bearing in mind the nature, do not reach this level.
Masha lucky given the circumstances, we have worked very hard together with her last season. But the figure skater has given such an opportunity. This is also a big deal when an athlete is ready to accept and do whatever the coach said. In this regard, Masha - fertile material. She is not afraid of anything, it is possible to try everything.
