Maria Sotskova

Good luck to Maria in Paris this weekend. She seems to love France so hope she enjoys her time there.

Looks like Maria's braces came off  Having seen her live, she is a bit slow still especially going into her combo, I thought she wasn't going to make that and going into her camel spin (very slow). Dress is gorgeous :luv17: 68+, congrats on the new PB :yahoo:

ETA: Also love her long gliding strokes. If only she can get a bit more power.

You picked a great event to attend, at a perfect time to travel abroad! I wish I did the same...

Maria seemed slow on the screen, too... I had high hopes, guess the presentation wasn't what I expected. Still, she had one of the best skates of the night, I fully expect her on the podium tomorrow.

So proud of Maria's senior GP debut! Her jumps have improved, her skating skills have improved, and she looks really stunning on the ice:love:

I almost picked SC, almost  Although here, I'm on the first row but boy are those railings obstructive. Felt like I was looking towards the outside world from a jail cell :slink:

Also I felt Maria was tense and she only received a tepid response from the audience. She should learn to let loose and really free the butterfly! Eighth best PCS, well okay then we have work to do. But she should get better PCS in the LP as its her better program. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

ETA: Chuckm just pointed out that she recived L4s on all her elements including her steps. Great job from Maria to achieve L4 steps :yahoo:

Deservedly so. Great job to Masha! She was a bit tense today but it's her first GP so it's probably the jitters.

Edit: whoops :palmf: decided to remove last part b/c that seemed more appropriate for the live reports thread

RemyRose, do you mind talking about her speed and such? And also how it compares to Gracie, Wakaba, or Gabby?

She's slow. Nobody can really compare to Gabby here because she skates in full attack mode. Its attack, attack, attack with Gabby no matter how off the jumps are, she never slows down or stops attacking. The only skaters I've seen live similar in attack and speed is Karen Chen and Rika Hongo.

Wakaba is fast but not as WOW as Gabby (she left a bigger impression than Maria so I can see why she had higher PCS). Same with Gracie but yesterday Gracie lacked fire and I think that affected my perception of her speed. But she does cover a lot of real estate with her stroking as compared to say Wagner who takes 2-3 crossovers to Gracie's one. Same with Maria. Long legs, long strokes (think Bobrova/Soloviev). Now if she can find more power, speed and attack behind those long strokes she'll be a WOW. But for now she needs to get her speed at least to the level of Medvedeva. The slowest skater I've ever seen? No, but its like she walked right into her 3l/3t and her camel spin but that could just be my perception because in person you can feel she was tense and that made me tense. But on video, everything looked better including the flip landing.

Let's see what her speed is like today. She always looks faster in this program compared to the short
:)

oh thank you!
It was a bit crass for me to ask that here since I didn't really want to pit anyone with each other. Ah the effects of the wee early morning....and also for not checking what I posted

hope you are enjoying your time over there! buy lotsa french macarons if you haven't!

Nah, its a fair question since people always say she's slow. With Buyanova everything looks improved but there is much to be learned and she will, with time! But she's skating with the big girls now and her overall impression wasn't as great as evident by her 8th place PCS score. Even behind Leonova :tantrum:

P.S. I need get on that search for macaroons, i've been slacking :slink:

TEAM TENSE PARTY TIME!
I was quite tense watching her too...mainly for her jumps though. And for other skaters I was worried about. (like Gracie :palmf:)
I really wanted her SP to go well. Since it did, I definitely agree with her need of power and speed. Pretty sure Buyanova will drill her to do more SS-classes after the competition. I actually think her skating skills improved a lot. I saw a lot more knee-rhythm action here than before. Also, thank goodness they managed to stabilized-if not improved her jump technique!
.....But there is still a lot that she needs to work on. LIKE HER EXPRESSIONS  I'll give her some leverage this time.

If you're pressed on time and money, try McDonald's? Not the best but they were cheap and tasted nice for the price. I wouldn't get any from Laduree though.
They're kinda overrated.

Nah, I'm not pressed for time/money. I've been her for 6 days now and still have 4 days to go. I forgot about getting some until Thursday since they don't really sell them at the Boulangeries I go to so I just settle on pastries instead. But I will find some tomorrow :hap85:

With Maria, she can work on her expression more. Maybe she can incorporate some Medvedeva like pantomiming to show the judges what its really like for a butterfly to break free of its cocoon? ;) They seem to love that stuff from Team Eteri

Our girl won SILVER AND BROKE 200
:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
She fought for every landing! Way to go Maria!!!!

Yeah she fought hard for it and deservedly broke 200. How exciting! Keep going Maria.

I'm very happy with her result here! She is the third best Russian lady so far! Go Maria get that third spot for Euros.
