This is like a soap opera. Things have been quiet for ages and suddenly I click on GS for SOI and see that in fact things are exploding. Definitely for once am excited about the upcoming Monday :p

Same! I can't wait to hear what Zhenya has to say, what Eteri has to say (:popcorn:) and most of all, if she's going to TCC, I want to hear Brian's opinion on why he thinks Zhenya is a good fit for him and what the plan is!

I don’t. My comment was based on various other posts suggesting that she was the one who leaked the news and “outplayed” Eteri and RusFed, forcing their hand. I din feel comfortable with that as it seemed manipulative but Yatagarasu offered a perspective at #712. If she too was blindsided, then I take back my comment.

Julia pcs fell because she was inconsistent so the Fed isnt going to pointlessly push pcs inflation for her. Evgenia pcs inflation is hugely due to her powerful fed pushing for her and now she's not using their coaches they wont push as hard for her.
 
God forbid she might be able to score high PCS on merit. Why not just wait and see what happens? Yes, we all know there's a political component, but that's not the only thing that matters. Why is there any incentive to keep watching skating for some of you that think everything is completely preordained?

No kidding! I saw the news and honestly didn't think it was that surprising, but then came to GS and saw the thread had 15+ pages in one day! :laugh: :popcorn:

Based on Phil’s tweets, Russian fed already knew about the coach change a while ago (literally a long time ago).

About Med’s PCS, if she somehow maintain her consistency, her scores will be in on range. However will she be consistent as before is another issue.

Im pretty sure Eteri just did her best for all her students to win.
It would be weird to expect her to betray Alina just so Zhenya can win.

I think if she skates for Russia and does not lose too much consistency, she will be fine.
If she switches countries, she may lose the big fed bonus (also, we do not know how mature rus fed important people are to not politic against her if she does it).

The fed does push for Evgenia, but she will still get solid PCS as long as she's skating well. She does a lot of things better than anyone else in the field, and that will always be rewarded.

I don't think the Russian Federation really minds Evgenia doing this, actually. She has done a lot for the sport in her country, and I think everyone recognizes that this is more about expanding her artistic horizon. Furthermore, I don't think there is another Russian coach that can do more for her than Eteri, so she really has to look abroad if she feels like she isn't getting the support she needs.
 
Btw rumors have it that Moris is among skaters who will leave Eteri as well. So now we have Zhenia, Polina, and Moris. I wonder who else?

It's not even amongst the proposed changes.

If Lipinski over Kwan didn't generate an increased age limit, why would Zagitova over Medvedeva?

This just is a transitional period, it's only natural that there would be some variation in the results after two all-time greats retired and they haven't been entirely replaced. It should even out when similar top talents emerge.
