Medvedeva leaving Eteri

It's not even amongst the proposed changes.

If Lipinski over Kwan didn't generate an increased age limit, why would Zagitova over Medvedeva?
Because it’s time the rest of federations want their ladies have more chances? Isn’t that easy to get? I think sooner or later they will mention the age limit issue.

I also think so.... and I suppose that only Russia will be against a higher age....

That doesn't really hold water... Medvedeva hasn't lost to anyone outside Russia, and she's 18 years old. You think that the age limit is what prevents the rest of the federations from winning? As I was saying, it's reliant on top talent emerging.

And what do I mean with a transitional period? "Well, the next batch of juniors is better", "well, this girl is better than anyone ever was for this age group", "well, this girl is even better"... This sort of a thing. Constantly there are more and more talented ladies. Of course they would be expected to surpass the older generation. This is a transitional period. So what happens when we have such a good skater that someone younger is no longer "better than anyone ever was at this age"? That's when the possibility for sustained success for a skater arrives. But the issue is the increasing talent level, not some age thing.

I don't see how USA would be for it. Alysa Liu would be first year Olympics eligible and is their only significant hope for a medal for ladies. Canada might be all for it, sure. But Gogolev exists and their male skating is weak. Would they want to delay his senior debut? I wonder.

It’s simple. Russian fed is powerful. But they’re not the only fed in a network of more than hundred federations. What if Skate Canada, USFA, Chinese fed, JSF and other small feds think they want older ladies to skate more often? They’re already talking about it. Maybe one day they will push the idea over to the committee. This is what we call lobby. Just that simple.

Orser's for it. But the main point of consideration: 2026 is almost certainly in Canada.

Hollllllly jaberwocky. My brain is still half blown over this. 2 months ago when we were theorizing and hoping Zagitova would move to Orser, it was still a pipe dream for a Russian lady to ever transfer out of country. And now MED of all people is leaving Camp Eteri and maybe probably going to Orser.

What timeline are we in? Nothing is impossible.

They will not. Because they also have juniors, duh =)
Russia is not the only country where people start skating before they are 17. A rule change is a big thing, and it is not something you can easily revert because "oh wait, this season we have a talented girl so we want seniors back at 15".

pretty sure russia would't want a higher age limit.

I'd assume, china doesn't want it either as otherwise they'd be left only with Zijun and Xiangning for 2022.

Canada pretty sure wants the age limits change. Rafael too, but not sure about USFS. Italy: yes. Japan: not sure but most likely yes. As of the other small feds, it depends whether it's possible for their skaters to skate till 17 or whether it'll lead to less diversity.

We wouldn't have this discussion, if judges were giving out PCS for what they're supposed to stand and not for technical ability.

They will find a way to apply a higher age limit. Not this season but maybe next. They always change rules when the system is too unbalanced towards some certain directions.

They won't change the age limit in the middle of an olympic cycle. If they didn't do it now (because it's a fact-it's not on the proposed changes list) imo it won't happen. The last age limit change was on July 2014, when ISU increased the minimum age for senior Grand Prix events from 14 to 15 (so at the beginning of the 2014-2018 olympic cycle). It's better this way, so athletes and their teams can make their plans for the future olympic games. (and anyway I don't see the point of changing the age limit but that's another topic)

That's also why I have my doubts regarding Canada. Yes, currently they're doing great. But when Osmond and Daleman retire or decline significantly... what then? They have nothing in JGP, nothing in seniors(Their #3 didn't even qualify for FS). At that point, they'd want their next big talent to be able to become a senior as early as possible(There was a very young girl if I recall correctly? 8?). Having a greater pool of potential skaters to choose from should as a general rule benefit every single fed.

Really... Until it's actually a proposed, I don't think it's a very relevant thing to discuss. I really hope they don't increase the age limit further(They can lower it for all I care, though).

The last rumor is she will switch to Daniil and he will give her a warhorse 🤔 Al least, that's what some posters expect.
