I always thought the whole thing Evgenia made about still being friends with Alina was a bit of a show for the public. Also did Alina not once said that after the Olympics she and Evgenia hadnt spoken to each other or something like that

The fact Eteri shared on TV what was a private comment from Zhenya, said through crushing disappointment at a moment her emotions were at their highest, is extremely petty. Whatever wars might happen between them, and whatever happened and whether Zhenya left without saying anything or not, that was still a low blow from Eteri.

The fact that Zhenya kept her face was the best she could do in that situation, I'd give her kudos for that. That doesn't mean she was faking it. Also- Johnny himself had to do that when he was a competitive athlete as well, well, when he could which rarely happened. But she is not what you are calling her. She and Alina are (were at that time at least) friends and she really did and still does respect Alina for her hardwork and achievements.

Russian forums started to chew this bubble at least three days prior to the official news internet outbreak haha. They got this idea of split because of Eteri vkontakte group started to delete questions on Zhenya, ban people for their questions, stop posting updates on Zhenya, then also Eteri's daughter deleted all the posts about Zhenya on Instagram. So there was a smoke before the fire...

So it seems extremely unlikely Eteri was blindsided by the media on Friday...

I don't believe for one second that Eteri only found out about this through the media. The director of Sambo70 knew, Eteri's daughter apparently knew going by social media activity (? I don't follow her personally), and didn't the rumours get going do to the Eteri vk page deleting pics of Zhenya? Obviously people, including Eteri, knew about this before it broke in the media.

As for the comments, we have no idea whether or not Evgenia said that. If she did, I don't agree with it of course, though if it was just after she knew she'd lost gold, I would cut her some slack. Something you say in the heat of the moment, high emotion -- it's not necessarily something you actually mean. Also, even if it is true, I don't agree with Eteri publicizing it. And posting text messages is very immature of Eteri.

I'm sure she's upset and hurt about Zhenya leaving, but she's handling it very badly and immaturely. You'd think she was the teenager.

Except you have no idea what was happening between Medvedeva and Eteri. A set of texts proves nothing, beyond the fact Zhenya wasn't answering them.

Do you realize how hard it is for the young competitive athletes to deal with all the mixed emotions when they face them first time in their lives? Especially when their coach is giving them all the mixed non verbal and verbal messages. The coach- the adult- should have been the one to support them and speak to them afterwards, let them find peace with results, get together, talk, cry, hug- whatever- and just feel normal again. Did it ever happen? I doubt it.
I remember how Hanyu was shaken when he lost Worlds to Javi first time. He was happy for him, yes, but he was hurt for himself too (he was still very young). And he said it was so hard for him to come to realize it and let it go and cheer Javi with all of his heart.
It is hard. Don't blame the girls.

Her only major flaw is that she can't coach grown up girls. She seem awesome, even teriffic with obeying teenagers and not with those "who are getting ready for motherhood", basically those hit by puberty. Otherwise medal-wise she's the best in the world. If you don't question her methods.
I don't hate Eteri. I just wish she were a bit wiser and not open up about certain details on her past students. Not flattering to her personality to be honest.

Agree. I've wanted to like Eteri many times before, and she seems like an amazing coach in some regards. She wouldn't have accomplished so much if she weren't. But the way she talks about prior students and is willing to hit below the belt is just...well it cancels out the rest, unfortunately. I really don't care if Evgenia said that about Alina, because honestly if I were in her shoes, I would feel the same way and more. But IF she said that, that was most likely meant to be a private conversation with her coach, and for Eteri to mention it in public and drag Alina into this mess is just :disapp:

First off, I sincerely doubt Adian is "lazy and spoiled". He was INJURED, not lazy.
Secondly, it worked for Alina. Eteri brought her back when Alina brought flowers and said she was leaving.
