Nervous About American Women Yet?

As this year has been billed as the year we make a comeback in ladies skating on the world stage, I'm now anxious. Alyssa Liu has been called all season on that triple- lutz triple loop in her short program. Altho she did a fantastic one at nationals. That doesn't have me as concerned. But why did Amber Glenn fall apart at the Team competition? She's skating great in practice according to the commentators but she got out there and messed up on her two difficult elements. What I do not want is a Japanese sweep at the podium. Is this a repeat of the American nerves of Mariah Bell, Bradie Tennell & Karen Chen? Or do we really have a shot at the podium?

The American women should be nervous, they will never have a better opportunity to take out an individual gold which is what they all want (team event gold does not mean much compared to being actual Olympic champion in an individual event).

Alysa Liu is not called enough on that that 3Lz-3Lo the 3Lo is almost always an underrotation (I have posted video proof multiple times). It was an underrotation in the team short program, it was in the GP final. The tech panel merely gave it a q each time.

Alysa Liu, Glenn, Sakamoto (in the past two seasons), basically max out at 150 points.

Petrosian coming off injury, limited preparation, jumping a 3-2 combo, just a 2T on the end of the sequence (when she can do two 2A with no effort) no ultra-c, in the Beijing qualifier still scored 141 getting lowballed on PCS (just 66). Got higher TES in the qualifier than Sakamoto did in the team free skate having one of her best performances over the past two seasons.

So I'm feeling quite confident with a Petrosian gold medal even if she just jumps a 3A in each program. She can jump two 3-3 combos and big 3Lz-2A-2A sequence all in the second half if required. I think Glenn had two 3-2 combos in the team free skate, Liu has a lot of suspect landings I don't think the tech panel wants to create a scandal by brazenly overlooking them with the world watching, Sakamoto jumped a 2-2 combo in the team free skate.

Not only the women looked nervous out there, but Ilia had shaking hands.

Plus Adelia's been in bigger fights than this she had to fight off Dvoeglazava at Russian championships and they don't like each other at all so there was a lot of personal pride at stake it would have been humiliating to lose, she got the better of Valieva, Akatieva when they had quads, got the better of Tuktamysheva when she was landing all those triple axels.

Plus you don't know how all these skaters will react someone putting up a big score early that will require 150+ for victory.

First I am always nervous regarding American ladies, because I like to see them medal.
That included Sarah, kristi , Michelle, Sasha. I just nervous watching them.
It doesnt matter if I am or not, all matters if they are.

To point of Bradie Tennell, Mariah Bell, and Karen Chen they was not counted on to medal at olympics in first place. They dont have individual medals

To Amber Glenn, she didnt implode. She still finished 3rd. She didn't attack but cautious. She did land her 3a

To red hot Japanese. Only Kaori is who we saw so fat. She is good but made noticeable mistakes thar she normally doesn't make .a popped jump .

To Alysa she skated well. She skated within reach.

Isabeau we haven't seen . She us dependable she is a medalist.
These U.s. women are touted to medal.
Alysa and Amber has
So has Kaori, Anastasia, Lara
Mone and Ami haven't seen at 4cc messed up. Skated nervous if u will.

But they aren't only ones
Anastasia Gubanova skated well.
Lara Nak Gutman well on short.
Cautious in free

We haven't seen Loena Hendrix, Nina Petrokina,
Jia Shin that skated well in short for Korea
Haein Lee a medalist haven't seen . Skated cautious .
Adelina Petrosian,Kimmy respond
Madeline Schizas
While they can sweep , Japan or u.s.a.
Highly unlikely due to caliber of women skaters

I apologize if I left skaters off
Kaori was in zone for team . Whether she is for individual is another matter same goes for all ladies and disciplines that skated team

I'm not in the least worried.

I want the skater who performs the best in this competition to take the gold, whoever that is.

I'm an American, and I'd be proud for our sport to have Kaori Sakamoto skate away with gold - provided she skates the best.

Not an American, so no, I can't say I am nervous and share @TontoK opinion. Whoever skates the best, should win, and good for them. I don't expect myself to build up much if any excitement for women's competition tbh, though Gubanova's lovely skate in teams was a pleasant surprise. Would be equally happy if the OGM goes to Sakomoto, Petrosyan, Glenn, Gubanova or Petrokina, because I find Lui sloppy, but Lui as an OGM won't make me grind my teeth in frustration either. Maybe I will feel differently before the free and an SP skate from someone would blow my mind. I doubt it though, since if they never did all season, why now?

I agree with the general sentiment that we are no more or less nervous than we always are. Ice is slippery. I for one am not going to bet the farm on who will slip the most, or the least.

Am an American who is rooting for Kaori. I love Alysa and her joy at skating and her doing things her own way, and if she wins a Silver or Bronze I'd be thrilled for her. But Kaori is who I am rooting for OGM.

Am also curious to see how Adeliia Petrosian skates.

Amber and Alysa are already gold medalists in the team event, so I'm not worried about their chances at an individual medal at all. I'm happy they have a medal to begin with; not everyone who goes to the Olympics gets one. If they (or Isabeau) win one, it will be like icing on the cake to me. May the best woman win...

As for Amber getting nervous, I think anyone would have some nerves at their first Olympics. Ilia seemed nervous too...

Granted, this sentiment is coming from someone who cares a lot more about the men's events...😅

You may not want a Japanese sweep in ladies But they are really good skaters. I think Kaori Sakamoto going take the gold.

I disagree that Liu is sloppy. Her 2a was scratchy in TE, but her jumps going back to 2025 Worlds have generally been clean, save a rare q or underrotation. I don't believe she's had even one fall.
Additionally, her layback has been spectacular, and her combination and camel spins have been consistently fast and centered. The last adjective I'd use for Liu is sloppy.

I've never seen Liu's 3Lz-3Lo clean. It's very muscled and underrotated every time but that are very reticent to punish her for it.

I'll let you judge. From the GP final and team event short program. Just a q on each one when it's a clear underrotation.

Not really nervous. Other than Isabeau I'm not a big fan of the American ladies at the moment. I expect Sakamoto to get the gold, but ice is slippery!

Personally, I believe the Americans have really good podium chances:) I think the ogm could go to Kaori, Amber, Alysa, even Petrosian or Ami Nakai could get the gold if the ice is unforgiving towards the other ladies. And honestly.. there are a lot of good contenders this year for the podium, we all know ice is slippery and can be unforgiving. One podium contender is def Mone, but there is also Petrokina, Levito, and even the possibility of one of the Korean girls rising to the occasion, just look at Haeins PB of 225. I wonder if there will be a dark horse that delivers an unexpected skate this time around... I think we can rule out a usa podium sweep seeing how strong the japanese ladies have been this season, but I truly wouldnt be shocked if the result is a japanese podium sweep

Am also curious to see how Adeliia Petrosian skates.
Me too. We've seen so little of her internationally that I wonder how much she'll be overwhelmed by the occasion. Although the Russian ladies are very talented, I don't know that all the local competitions they face off at are as good preparation as the GP series. But we'll find out soon. But I'm hopeful that if Amber and Alysa nail their programs they will be right there with her, so I'm not too nervous.
