Nordic skating (FIN, SWE, NOR, DEN, ISL)

Elias Sayed(SWE) trains in Boston low season and competed at Cranberry international this week. He finished in sixth place with 167,79 points (61,59 + 106,20)

Elias is in the national team. He’s born 04-12-2006, 17 years old. His coach is Tatiana Aganova(anyone knows anything about her?) His bios. And this is what he and his coach look like.

There will be competition among the Swedish junior men this season, although Erik Pellnor switched to dance and Andreas and Jonathan are now in seniors.

Matias Heinonen and Daria Trubitson (FIN) are listed on JGP Austria. This is debut for both at JGP level and also they also start Finland's season at JGP. Finland has only three spots at JGP this season in both men and women.

Just did a quick search, and it seems Tatiana Agafonova has been coaching in Sweden for a long time.

She also coached Swedish Ladies Singles skater Linnea MELLGREN (ISU Bio), who last competed in 2016. When Linnea competed at Skate Copenhegan in 2012, page 11 of the Entries List has Tatiana Agafonova and Marina Leonidova listed as the coaches for her club, Enköpings Konståkningsklubb.

In 2015, both Agafonova and Leonidova coached at a summer camp in Västerås, and in the write-up, they had a bit of a biography about them. Here is the Google translation:

EDIT: I just found Leonidova's Wikipedia page, and she was coached by Tamara Moskvina and Tatiana Tarasova! 😲​

Incidentally, I also found out that Agafonova held a summer camp in Solna in 2017 (see this Facebook post).

Thanks @CaroLiza_fan ! This is your thing... to dig :) I'm often too lazy to do the job. I see Anna Rechnio(former Polish figure skater) did Elias' free skate choreo. At least I know she has been coaching and choreographing in Sweden for many years.

Well, if I am totally honest, I was curious to find out if Tatiana was maybe related to one of my skating crushes, Alisa Agafonova! :love: Or maybe Polina Agafonova.

That's a pity now that Finland has promising young men(I don't know much about the young women) Next season there will be more spots, right? :) Hopefully the junior and novice men will be sent to other competitions.

Where can I see how many spots each nation has for jgp?

A skeleton is the head of Nordic boys camp 2023. September 15-17 in Åkersberga Stockholm. Boys born between 2004 och 2012 can participate. I hope many comes, especially those feeling isolated doing a not that popular sport for men in the nordic countries.

I'm sure google can do a good job on this. But here is my free interpretation of the main purpose:

The purpose is to inspire each other across national borders and have fun together. In many places guys who figure skate are few. Coming to a camp with other guys can be crucial for their wish to continue training or even aiming for the top.

This is great. I´m not sure it was part of the same project, but they did have a similar camp in Norway this spring I think in Bergen. All though, i´m not sure the timing was bad or something, but I think they only had like on Swede or something beside the Norwegian boys. I think the location may not have been the best, I think Stockholm is more easier to travel too.

I´m hoping this one will bring more boys together from the Nordic countries.
 
So the entries for Lombardia Trophy and Autumn Classic are up and we have following skaters on the list from the Nordic countries:

At Lombardia, Makar Suntsev (FIN) in men, Janna Jyrkinen (FIN) and Mia Risa Gomez (NOR) in women, and Finland even have a pair going Vaananen / Clerici.

In Autumn Classic, only Emmi Peltonen (FIN) for women. Not surprising given the location in Canada. I´m guessing Emmi is still training in the US so it makes total sense she will be attending Autumn Classic. This could also explain why isn´t in Finland for this domestic competition. Maybe she will be considered for the TBD at GP Espoo as well based on the performance at Autumn Classic.

I´m guessing there will be far more Nordic entries at Nebelhorn Trophy and Finlandia Trophy. Like I mentioned, Norway will be sending two women skaters to Finlandia, and one to Nebelhorn Trophy. I´m guessing Maia Sörensen will be skating in one or both of them. Also I´m hoping Nordreback will be in one of them.

Also it will be interesting to see when the new Swedish Ice Dancers will debut. Ruud Reitan/Majorov did say they wanted to skate at one of the early Challengers, i´m guessing Nebelhorn will make sense since they train in Oberstdorf. All though, they have been very secret about their skating, not sharing any clips from the ice which makes me wonder how the training is going and if they will be ready for Nebelhorn.

Kivioja/Pellnor on the other hand have done the opposite, they try to share as much as possible and have an own Instagram and TikTok account where they have shared a lot already.

With two teams the pressure is really on to collect EC minimums and get the spot. I think this could make them all want to attend early competitions.
 
Milania and Philippo had had good skate at Finland's test skates. It is realistic to think they could get WC minimums soon. Not clean, but 45+ is enough and Finnish judges have not given anything for free at national comps during couple of past seasons. Their SP was solid already before and has been also at that competition. Scores at nats have been quite close to scores what skaters get by similar skates at international competitions. With others it has been quite a mess, only Iida has skated at her own level but also she had falled once. I just wathced the protocols, there is not more information but the result page. Lots of WDs before the competition and also after SP some, including Janna.

Earlier the local Fed announced they will tell the GP TBD participants 13th August, it has been changed in the middle of August but it seems they still are waiting. The decision is not easy. My desicion would be Janna, Nella Pelkonen and then either Oona Ounasvuori or Olivia Lisko. Olivia had some good comps at the second part of last season. In men there are two opportunities for the open TBD spot. Valtter can still skate in singles or it will be given to someone no-Finn. Emmi and Linnea Ceder are ok alternative if she can show she is in condition. But Linnea did not take part to test skates, so it may mean she is not in shape. Emmi should be, as she starts the season so early.

To FT Finland usually sends 2-4 women. It depends on who many other participants there will be, if not many then they may send more. Both ID pairs will be there because it is demanded to take part in - skaters who want to look for big comp spots are told they must take part at nationals and Finlandia Trophy, if named to it. I think Milania/Philippo will be, and they also want to be, there. Local skaters seem to appreciate FT, based on their comments.

Edit: The deadine to confirm the participants (GP) is just today, so it will a matter of hours we will know who are selected.

Edit2: I may missunderstood. It says: In accordance with the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating 2022/23 announcement, entries can only be madefor skaters/couples who are qualified and/or selected for invitation. The confirmation of the entries must besubmitted by August 15, 2022 latest to..
So does this mean the invited skaters/their teams must confirm their participation by the given date?

So GP spots went to Janna, Nella and Oona. As they were the only ones who took part to summer competition it is fair - Janna WD before FS but after last season she deserves it. It is now confirmed by local Fed that the open TBD men's spot goes to someone no-Finn.
 
It is quite easy to understand why Arttu J. and Matias L. have stayed in juniors also at GP series. It is more realistic for both to get a JWC spot instead of WC - only one spot so there is competition about it. Matias L. already has both TES for it, but local Fed emphasizes the junior competitions this season and I think it is fair. Arttu has FS but his SP is from season 2021/2022 and I think it does not count any more this season?. So Arttu needs junior competitions and the rule who gets the spot is clear again: Two best scores counted together, one can be international - also senior comps can be accepted but those scores will be decreased by-5 points and at least one competition must be international junior competition. So only one can be senior competition- national championships and selection to nationals are accepted, too. Matias H. is not age eligible to compete in seniors yet.

Yesterday morning Emmi Peltonen appeared on a TV talk show here in Finland. She said that her ankle is fine, she is completely healthy now and able to train at full capacity. She is also highly motivated but still wants to take it slow, step by step. Emmi also said that her season will start in September-October and her goal this season is the Worlds. She is listed already for Autumn Classic in September. Hopefully she is ready to compete already there.
 
I just came across Babeth Hanssons (Den) TikTok and discovered she has been injured the past couple of months and can still only do spins and steps on the ice :( So this is why we won´t see her at JGP and competitions in the upcoming months.

I´m really going to miss her creative and fun programs in JGP this season :(



I´m crossing my fingers for a speedy recovery and hopefully she can start jump again soon :pray:
