Olympics Ladies event a year ago....

Is this a serious discussion wheather a 18yo girl has always behaved politically correct to a 15yo?

Who cares. Would you judge your daughters/little sister if they didn't want to talk with another girl at a birthday party? Or if *gasp* she tried to steal the attention from someone else by wanting to show of her guitar playing at maybe an inappropriate moment?

I don't think it's appropriate to analyse every action of (not our own!) kids and judge them for it even if they are public persons.

Did she not know Zag was planning on backloading, and if successful would almost certainly take the gold?

Hard to imagine! They amount of threads and repeat posts we had to endure here at GS and on some TV broadcasts were sure to not let us forget about it. :scard7:

To the poster who said silver was the worst medal - I totally agree for the most part. But there was one glorious silver (though should have been gold). Elizabeth Manley - now that was a triumphant and joyful silver. Also, oddly another Canadia, Kaetlyn Osmond's world silver in 2017 was another glorious celebration. Then there were the painful silvers - Brian Orser, Surya Bonaly, Evgenia.

Boston Worlds is another good example. Wagner's was a lifetime achievement while for Yuzuru it was crushing. And for the other disciplines, it was disappointing for Sui/Han, and for the Shibs...I think they wanted more even though that wasn't realistic. So yeah I'd lean more toward not satisfying 50%-75% of the time. Even this Olympics, Shoma seemed satisfied enough with silver (as he was the only one smiling about it) but Med, P/C, and Sui/Han were all devastated. And understandable as the scores were so close. Yeah, it's either a pleasant surprise or a bitter disappointment

I loved the 2018 Olympics Ladies event. I gasped when Alina missed her first triple lutz triple loop combo, then cheered when she added it on later. Her fist pump at the end (and her sidelong look at her coaches- like "whew I did it!") was my favorite moment of the Olympics- she was the happiest I had ever seen her. Of course, Evgenia gave her best skate possible under the given circumstances, but Alina was the clear winner, and had been gaining momentum steadily that season. I was sad for Evgenia, but thrilled for Alina, and Alina's gracious response to her win cemented her place as my new favorite skater. The drama later on when Evgenia switched coaches, well I won't focus on that. What's happened has happened, and I hope both Evgenia and Alina give their best skates at Worlds. However, I think Rika has the momentum this season...

I had a love/hate thing with Alina's programs, especially the FS, however when she missed her first lutz loop combo then added it on later to the beat of the music, I couldn't help but think of the brilliant masterstroke that was! Especially being under such enormous pressure at 15!

I was sad for Evgenia, I liked her programs better but hey, she won 2 silver medals.

Kaetlyn delivered except for a small step out in the FS and showed that she really wanted it, a well deserved bronze.

Satoko for being the best 4th placing at the Olympics I've seen from the ladies! Considering that she had comeback from a possible career ending hip injury.

My heartbreak moment will always be for Gabby after the high of winning gold in the Team Event and a stellar skate only for it to fall apart in individual.

I don’t see how Evgenia (or anyone) would have been “blindsided” with losing the Gold given Alina had won everything that season leading up to the Olympics. I’m sure she felt she had a good chance of winning but in none of the coverage leading up to the Olympics was it a definite that Evgenia was the favorite. It was quite obvious that it was 50/50 and could go either way given both their competitive record/scores, Evgenia’s injury and the “rivalry” was played up if anything. I mean they did a whole documentary on it even. It’s a bit revisionist history to say otherwise.

I think Evgenia went from the girl everyone was screaming was overrated/overscored for 2 years to suddenly being the sentimental favorite after that tho. Russian system tends to get a lot of criticism for seemingly “replacing” their girls with new ones so easily and this was the most blantant visualization of that where one season of injury was all it took for her to get usurped after 2 years of domination. Certainly it’s a bit cruel but in life, what is meant to be yours will be yours. If you try your hardest and the results still don’t fall your way, it’s for a good reason even if it’s hard to accept in that moment. I think she handled the aftermath well and made the best move for her career.

Eteri's :O face after Zag's SP said it all.

I think people were referring to the actual skating and not to the politicking part when they say they were expecting to be 50/50. The latter is entire different story and I agree.

Right andthen I would add Anna Kondrosheva, Alena Leonova, Elena Sokolova too probably. along with Paul Wylie and Bechke and Petrov.

Osmond's bronze was the highlight for me. The other stuff, I moved on from last February.

I agree Osmond was a highlight but the whole ladies competition. Satoko, Kostner, Bradie et al were great even if they didn't win. And the quality of Alina and Evgenia - wow. Though I have to say Osmond may have been a bit underrated pc wise. She actually is quite a good spinner too and her jumpswhen on are the best at leastthen.
