Congrats to the medalists. Just got back in from grocery shopping for "turkey day" so I did not watch the pairs.
I was so hoping that Mark & Amanda would step it up and medal, oh well.

B/L had skate of their life. They should have won the LP.
D/R, what a hot mess, with that, a SB of 115 pts? What are the judging smoking?
V/T, overscored as usual.
Amanda and Mark's combo spin cost them massively.

D/R benefited from huge base value - 60.00 points, which is higher than what anyone did here (or at last year's Worlds, for example). Amanda/Mark ceded eleven poins to them right there. Hell, D/R's SBS triple salchows in the LP got them more points than all three jumping passes from E/L combined (short and long). E/L made up ground on GOEs overall, but that's too much ground to come up with.

Although the falls on the third element of their 3 jump combo and on the throw triple loop, look messy, the rest of their elements were very high levels and well done. They skate with strong basic skating and a lot of speed and they have difficult entries and exits from their elements. And even when they fell, they never game up on their program, they continued on and skated the rest of their program as if the errors hadn't happened. The judges at both Skate Canada and TEB are basically saying to D&R that if they skate this program cleanly, they will be scoring around 122 points.

D&R's SBS combo is a 3Z/2T/2T and they fell on third jump. Even with the -2.00 GoE for the fall on the under-rotated third jump, they received 5.7 points for that element versus 0.80 for the under-rotated 2A combo that E&L did. Before the fall, D&R rotated and landed a triple lutz/double lutz combo, and element so difficult that no other team in the field attempted a 3Z, much less one in combo. E&L under-rotated their other jumping pass, SBS 3T's and received 2.1 points for it, versus 5.1 for a beautiful pair of SBS triple Salchows from D&R.
