Patrick Chan

Too bad about the lean and fall on 3A but it's credited and Patrick got a SB (Internationally). He will skate a beautiful LP and win a medal to conclude his comeback season.

A new SP and a new quad for next, the pre-Olympic, season, and he'll be ready to rock.

Good health and steady progress, a very good strategy that will pay big time.

But first he'll show them the soul of skating on Friday night.

probably a new LP too !

Great skate for Patrick, and he's in the top 3! Incredible for a comeback year!!

Hmmm... this person on twitter said Patrick said this might be his last worlds...

I've been trying to find other news sources for confirmation, but so far have not been able. Hopefully she was totally wrong!

I don't hope one way or another. Patrick has to decide on his own terms. If he retires from competition now, he has already been incredibly successful, having made tremendous impact on Mens figure skating. He loves skating but I don't think he wants to get in the rat race, selling his soul for quads and medals.

Video of the backstage at WC16 (which is one of the best back stages I have seen this season):

Patrick and Kathy walk in at 1:12 and hug David. Look at how organized he is compared to the beginning of the season at Skate Canada, when he had everything dangling off his arms!

there you go... 'this year. it's been a great year for my 3A :)" way to go patrick...

i think i become a bit of a tiger when anything is said about patrick ;)

let's believe in a stellar long for our skater!!!!
Short video clip of Patrick speaking at the press conference:

Not sure why some fans were nervous about what he was going to say, but I hope they are relived now.

After the SP is a very unlikely time to announce retirement. But some people are just so inclined to think he will retire immediately.

Moi, I'm not attached to any outcome but live in the now and enjoying the present and the process. I think Patrick at this point has reached the maturity to decide for his own life based on what makes him happy and what he wants to accomplish. I support his decisions as long as they are made in this vein. He seems to know himself well now and is sure of what he wants and how to get it, his own way.

He's been indicating he will be competing till the next Olympics, so I will ride with him. It is an exciting journey!

:console:

Gandhi said, "Become the change you wish to see." And the sage formerly known as Guru SF says, "You can't be poor enough to help the poor, sick enough to help the sick, or nervous enough to calm the nervous."

Be relaxed, focused, confident, and detached from outcomes like you'd like Patrick to be. How can you send him love, positive energy and good vibe if you are in a nervous worried state? You're rehearsing negative future scenarios which don't exist. Stay in the moment, like we wish Patrick to do, or rehearse the best case scenario instead, with joy and confidence to spare so you can send some to Patrick.

Take a deep breath and hum with me. Ohmmmmmmmmm.......

It was all okay in the end. (minus the 3A). :) I hope Patrick just embrace the soul of skating and ignore the results. He is a joy to watch.

There was a compilation on today's Japan broadcast where interviewers ask Yuzu to describe other Top skaters.
just from memory:
for Chan he said "Strength" The sound of his skates going down the ice stays with you. If someone asked me to skate like Patrick, I could...for about 10-20 seconds, but he does it the whole way through the program...and other very complementary things. I hope someone airs the whole clip.

yup... we hear his blades on the ice like nobody else... patrick is bigger, more muscular... and sexier ;) but that`s just my taste... i know there are many yuzu fangirls hehe so i am patrick's fanboy ;) (what i like about yuzu is that he seems to fly on the ice, so complete different styles)

Thanks everyone for bringing such wonderful stuff to the thread lately. I'll comment on some of the earlier stuff later. For now, though, I'll comment just on Patrick's Worlds SP, having just watched it for the first time. Beautiful 4T+3T. The 3A didn't look like a "normal" fall. It's as if he landed and his legs slid out from under him. Nice 3Lz, a bit forward on the landing. The footwork sequence was just plain FUN to watch here. It seemed like Patrick was really enjoying himself during it. Congrats to him for being in the Top 3!!! :yay:

One question though: If you had told me someone could get 94 with a fall (albeit fully-rotated) before this season, I would have been like, "No way!" Are everybody else's scores so high just because Yuzu's are up in the stratosphere? Patrick only got 98 with the same jump layout and no fall at 2013 TEB. The ranking is correct, but the scores seem extra high this year. Let's call it "The Yuzu Effect." I hope Patrick will be able to break 100 in the SP internationally next season!

ETA: I just found that Nam didn't quality for the FS. :jaw: WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED??? Well, a Top 5 from Patrick will give Canada 2 spots for next year. Do they only get 3 if he wins? I wonder what Liam is thinking right now.

just in case :

canada cannot get 3 spot for next year...

to get 2, patrick needs to score 10 placement points (top ten) as the total has to be 28 or below... Nam gets 18 for not reaching the finals.

.

I don´t know if "the Yuzu effect" but it´s true that the judges are being very generous throughout the entire season.
It does not change the order of the medals because I believe that all positions both world (so far) and the GPF or other competitions were deserved but scores have always been excessively high.
And I do not mean just for Chan today or his FS in Barcelona.
Shoma in the PC´s is overscored, Bojan in PC´s and also in the Tes, the score in European Javi was ridiculous, and the same for Yuzu.
