:love::love: patrick is so sweet... look at the emotion in his face when he talks about eric... :luv17:
Nice, Mango! Can I copy your post and put it on my fan site? Just kidding - I will be doing a summary soon - just wanted to wait until tonight's meet and greet.

Here's another video from Skate Canada:

Patrick Chan: 2016 Skate Canada High Performance Camp

Also, I just noticed that Patrick is on the Skate Canada Shop page with adorable gloves on!

2. He sometimes has these extreme cases of foot in mouth disease. But I actually found his latest offerings fresh and honest.

honestly, I am a pchiddy addict... i watch all his interviews in french and english.... there were, at the very beginning of his career, when he was under the spotlight, a couple cases of what on Earth is he saying here? but I think that people who just want to hate the guy are using this to sort of justify their hate. In the last few years, I haven't heard a thing that was out of line... except of course when people misquote him to make him look bad. I find as you say, that Patrick is very generous with the media. Very few skaters share their intimate feelings or states of mind. He is very personable and most people who are just casual figure skater watchers appreciate his genuine personality....

The real issue here : some fans dislike him because he's won WC 3 times in a row, when, in their mind, other skaters should have won... Well... i have news for these people, Patrick wasn't the one scoring the event... It is very practical for those people though to say "i don't like him, he's rude or says inappropriate things etc" than admit in public that they just wanted someone else to win...

my two cents... end of rant :)

GO PATRICK I LOVEeeEEEEEEEeeeeeeEEEEEEeeeee you

Glad you noticed. He even laughed good naturedly when talking about his competition, and seemed at ease and relaxed acknowledging his technical disadvantage.

Why are people so hate Patrick?
I see this not for the first time, but still don't understand. After his interview there are so much negativity...
It's wrong to hate someone only because of who he is. Foolish people >_<

Who is hating Patrick? The figure skating fans in Russia? I haven't seen much negativity on Twitter, at least. But we know that no matter what he said, he would be criticized.

Yes, in Russia. Anti-fans are so rude... And sometimes them no need a reason to say something bad about Patrick. ~_~

Well... I never met more unliked figure skater than Patrick. Especially in Russia. That's awful

In Russia they hated him due to the fact that it represents the end of the Russian hegemony and of his school of skating. Patrick is the major representative of the modern skating and he was the first one that dominated the new system. Plushenko and others never valued him because they said that his skating was feminine and it did not have quads. Now many of the occasional fans continue saying it and even when someone says to them that he does 2 in the FS, they oppose him to Hanyu with 3 or with Bojan with 4 ... that is absurd because Bojan is the only one that does 4 and he isn´t a so good skater as Patrick and Hanyu only began to do them last year.

But definitively in the eEnglish forums it is much worse than in the russian forums, because at least, in the majority of the russian forums, they respect him for his skills.

i find it funny that his skating is referred to feminine when i find it so powerful and masculine... especially when plushy /hanyu would do biellmann spins which are well probably the most feminine move in skating.

yeah, but his reasoning is that the quad is a mens´s thing, if you cannot do it, your performances can compete with that of the girls.

joubert and plushy can say whatever they want... they are belittling not only buttle and chan... but women as well... very wrong... but Patrick got in trouble when he spoke up and defended Jeff.

As far as I know, very rare are the women who do triple axels :)

Joubert was jealous because Buttle won in 2008

Plushy jealous because Lysacek won in 2010...

that's all... fan hate comes from jealousy. There's no real reason to dislike someone you have never met in person, who is an athlete doing their jobs, other than jealousy.

For me, joubert won in 2008 XDXD
But curiously, I do not resemble Joubert to criticize Chan for his skating, but yes to plushenko, mishin and many russian fans...
Plushenko more that jealous was angered of that his shameless overscored was not sufficient to win in Vancouver.

PD: I am sorry about it, I was never a fan of Buttle and I do not believe that he had the skills that have Patrick ever.

Blackbird - it's a favourite Patrick's mom song) It's so sweet **

Weird...I'm having a hard time logging in on my laptop.

I love this video, too. Didn't know that Blackbird was a favorite song of his mom's.

But for me the best part was at the end, when he shares what he learned from the sport. I think I'll take his advice!

As for the Russian fans hating him, ironically, some of his best friends are Russian, too.

joubert criticized buttle, patrick defended buttle ;)

I think skating in Canada is just a bit different... From Kurt to Sandhu to Buttle to Chan, we see a progression in skating skills, footwork, spins etc. And for me, these 4 guys are sort of a family tree and i like all of them, especially baby chan :) and grandpa kurt.... Elvis Stojko represents the more powerful style... Strangely enough, Russians also didn't like him ;)

Let's put it this way : People love Canadians, all over the world, but we are NOT supposed to win in sports :) so when we do, people dislike our athletes LOL (just my opinion)

PS : How do you see Joubert as the winner ? He fell in the short and was already 5 points behind buttle in 5th place, and of course, in the long, he did a quad but only one triple axel... on top of that he got edge calls on both his 3F and popped the second jump of his last combo... while buttle was flawless on every single jump element... Buttle outscored him by about 15 points in total.. it wasn't even close...

It looks like there are quite a few people out there who still think Patrick is going coachless. Let's be clear: He is not. He is just in the process of finalizing who his coach will be. I am seeing a lot of shade being thrown his way and that is ridiculous. He is not arrogant for taking the time to find someone he can trust to coach him in the last two years of his career. And if there are any doubts, let PJ Kwong and the CBC clarify for you from 3 different sources, including the man himself:

Chan to announce new coach

Patrick Chan, the three-time world champion and two-time Olympic silver medallist, has been making changes of his own. Having split with Kathy Johnson, his coach of the last few years, Chan moved to Canton, Mich., from Detroit and is currently skating without a coach.

Will that be the case for the whole season? It's unlikely. Chan, Slipchuk and Skate Canada's Emma Bowie all confirmed to me that within the next week or so, Chan will announce his new coaching arrangement.

wait for it...

Patrick will announce his new coaching environment, people will say "but that's not a real coach" or "strange choice... how does he think that will help him".... etc

A little history:

Patrick's public image took a beating during the Vancouver Olympics. He had just turned 19, been well loved by the Canadian skating community and media so he was used to being open and honest with his sunny personality, totally unprepared for the worlds media converging at the Olympics looking for controversies to write up, making some up if necessary. Patrick was a focus of attention for Mens figure skating, being the Canadian Champ and World's Silver Medalist, with awesome ground braking footwork. Plushenko, of course, was the other focus. He was experienced and wise enough to not talk to the media before he competed, leaving the Canadian upstart kid to deal with the sharks. Naturally, pitting them against each other, they threw questions at Patrick about Plushenko. Patrick defended himself with emphasis on footwork under COP, considering Plusenko's emphasis on quads only old school. I was shocked at the headlines the next day all over the world that "Chan Blast Plushenko As Being Old" (of course these days it's the same article(s) issued and reported by all the media). So he offended one of the most beloved skating stars with the most passionate fans.

Who were the other skaters with the most passionate fans those days? Well, next it was Johnny Weir's army up in arms about Patrick beating Johnny who finished sixth at the Olympics. What made it worse that Johnny didn't get to show his Poker Face at the Gala that his fans thought would turn the world into his fans. There was a confession here in the GS about how Johnny's fans in the Chinese media spinned the reports against Patrick.

Oh, before all that it was the skating hunk Joubert, who had criticized Buttle's Worlds titles as invalid for lack of a quad. Patrick defended Buttle against Joubert at Worlds 2009 and again gave the controversy loving press a great story. What was ironic and funny was that Patrick beat Joubert and then, at the press conference, Joubert turned to Patrick for translation when he was asked what he thought about losing to the quadless skaters.

The you go, busting on the Senior scene with a high profile, Patrick immediately offended the three most popular Men and outraged their zealous passionate fans. Patrick was the target of ridicule, derision and worse. His eye problem, a skating handicap he had to overcome, was called rape eyes.

Patrick refused to change his open attitude toward the media, even after suffering the deliberately timed twisted report that he would rather skate for China, so his words were often taken out of context and given a negative spin.

Things have actually improved much and the most vile and immature slanders are over with the retirement of the three popular skaters, though one can't be sure about Plushenko. His chief rival was Takahashi but they were good friends. Negative impression and reputation remain somewhat but more attention has been switched to the bitterness against his wins, called undeserved due to judges' favoritism. His skating has been called robotic, cold, etc and focus was placed on his falls and 3A being inconsistent. I think a little part of Hanyu's popularity was due to his potential and ability to beat Patrick. Well, you all know what's going on these days.

Patrick is embracing his hunting position instead of being the hunted these days . He has been a big red target for so long. But his is mature now and confident again. He is in a very good place.

I heard about "raped eyes" but I never knew that it happens to him in his eyes.

The really funny is that now, plushenko is very hated in Russia for the real fans of FS and Joubert seems friend of Chan
