Hi everyone. It's been a while. Still getting over the excitement and drama of Skate Canada.
So glad to see Patrick. Let me tell you a bit about what was happening on the ice.
He was there in practice, I think the first one on Thursday, and he was struggling to do his 4T. He tried it a few times, kept popping it. I think he even two footed a landing. So he skates over to Marina and Oleg. She points to the part of the rink where he was trying it, telling him to go back. And right back out he went, just 2 seconds at the board. Tried again and again and bam! Nailed it. I loved seeing that. There was no mollycoddling, no lengthy discussion, just a push to say, "you can do it, we know you can". He fell on the 3A in the SP and he was rightfully angry about that. He had landed some bad ones in practice, but also some beauties. It's a jump that I hope he will have a lot of consistency with as the season progresses because he's working on it. I loved his spins, especially the last one, how he opens it timed to the music. Overall, that SP was better than at Finlandia.
I was so disappointed to not see him in a new costume for the FS. :disapp: But I have hope he'll get one. How common is it for a skater to wear the same costume for two different programs? I know some skaters borrow costumes from others, but the same person wearing a costume twice?
So the 4S is up and down. When it's on, it's great. He fell on it in the FS, but it's good that he tried it out. His speed is amazing. I mentioned it elsewhere but his choreography fills the rink. End to end. I am glad to see him get two 3 Axels out there! That 2F though...

It's been a part of every performance in 2016 except the 4CC, right? I remember it at Nationals too.

Stamina is still an issue, for now. Well, I'm giving him time for this FS. Chopin he had for 2 seasons, so he was way more comfortable with it. This music is deep and powerful and with the increased TES he needs some more time with it. The coaching change seems to have worked out, and for that I am thankful. He needs to get it together for Cup of China.
So for the gala he had an mp3 player and put in some headphones to practice skating. He was so in the zone. When he started his practice Scott Moir was watching him and making appreciative sounds.

Patrick also had a laugh when the chair Meagan and Eric were on started folding and Meagan tipped out. He appeared to get along well with the other guys in the group, and was hanging out with Eric during the group number rehearsal and when Yuzuru was skating - he was among the skaters who respectfully cleared the ice for Yuzu. I appreciated seeing his exhibition because apart from Alaine, I had seen all the other Canadian numbers at Stars on Ice. So this was new and nice.
Though he wasn't at his best, I am glad I got to see Patrick compete in person after having seen him in a show and meeting him. I am going to try to catch up with all the great things you guys have posted and shared.
