Patrick Chan

and you didn't tell us ???

SIGH :) I think we deserve several photochans for having been left hanging like this! :)

I am still losing my mind over Satoko's LOL

You're BLAMING ME for your gullibility!!! :laugh2:

As for Leia/Satoko I must admit I quite enjoyed that one! And that hair is very flattering on Satoko, imo.

I feel so relieved now  and I know I will have a good night sleep after reading VB's 2nd post .

Good nite everyone!!! :hap93:

ok .. here it is:laugh2:

:handw:

the thing is that yes.. we are used to
1) your expert knowledge in everything related to Patrick
2) a better sense of humour than that from you

1) :handw: When was the last time I supplied real information here? It has been the other diligent members who bring latest articles, intagrams, twitter, etc

2) I expected a sense of humour from you :disapp: like blueberryhill.

So... yeah... you killed us here a little...

Too easy to kill. Toughen up, my friend, so you are worthy of being a fan of Patrick who is tenacious, steadfast, and indestructible.

Thankfully, I haven't had time to make my petition on change.org :drama:.

So you're giving up winning The Most Frivolous Petition Of The Year? :p

exactly... since you haven't supplied anything in a while, I thought you came to the rescue of all of us who are wondering about costuming (and decostuming, in my case) Patrick ;)

being gullible once doesn't have any impact on my sense of humour ;)

oh.. and you have seen my resilience in the competition threads LOL...

regarding the petition... as you should know, i would not make such a thing... it was a joke ;)

I guess I should say this to those who believed i'd take such action :rofl2:

Anyone here believed 4everchan's threat to start a petition so as to need an explanation from him?

Yes, yes, your gullibility has affected your sense of humour, 4everchan.

I’m new to Golden Skate, so hi everyone. Hallelujah! A place where I can unashamedly be a Patrick Chan fan!!! He is certainly one of those polarizing skaters that people have very strong opinions about (but maybe it’s that way with every top skater?) I have been hooked since I stumbled across his 2008 Nationals LP on YouTube, and I thought to myself, “This kid can SKATE!!!) He’s one of the few skaters that makes IJS look easy. All his movements flow into each other naturally, as opposed to most other skaters where it’s completely obvious they’re just cramming extra moves in for points. Skaters like Chan, Takahashi, and Kozuka, and Abbott are evidence that programs can still be beautiful under IJS (and there are more examples across the disciplines). From the moment Patrick’s Four Seasons music began, I was mesmerized. I could literally watch him skate all day, with or without jumps.

Some people say that he doesn’t emote well during his programs. I think his on-ice style is reserved by nature. He feels the music deeply in his soul (saw an interview posted in this thread where he talked about ballet and how important music is to him). Off the ice, he seems like a really outgoing person. His musicality on the ice is focused inward as opposed to outward but he is working on projecting more. I FEEL something each time he skates that is indescribable. He is the first skater I’ve felt this moved by since Michelle Kwan. His skating quality is top notch and I feel that he often doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

The haters love to talk about inflation. They criticize every flaw and seemingly blame Patrick for his high scores. Patrick can’t really control the judges’ marks. Figure skating is still a subjective sport, and Patrick’s job is done once he leaves the ice. Plus, I personally don’t comment much on skaters I don’t like (other than giving a brief opinion if it’s relevant), so I don’t understand why people spend so much time criticizing skaters they don’t like. YouTube is the best example of this I can think of: If you really don't like a particular skater, why watch videos of them and then post hateful comments on said videos? As I said, Patrick seems like a love/hate skater among fans.

So, THIS is where it all started for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d9LSJIzuQU

His exhibition that year was FABULOUS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQfSjgbRu7w

And now there’s THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ka1KF4Y1HVM

I could go on, but I’ll stop there. Suffice it to say, I will forever be a fan of Patrick Chan’s skating. I hope he wins the OGM in Sochi! :)

throwing back skatingfan4ever's first post in this thread :) :agree:

All of you,

 :laugh2: :rofl2:  :laugh2: :rofl2:

Lol on me for taking VB way too seriously here... but I think 4everchan's reasons for believing were entirely valid.

VB, you could write an article about Patrick for one of those satire magazines like The Onion and we would take you seriously!

I was too hasty in being soft hearted. Should have strung y'all along for as long as I could. Such easy marks!

Hi everyone. It's been a while. Still getting over the excitement and drama of Skate Canada.

So glad to see Patrick. Let me tell you a bit about what was happening on the ice.

He was there in practice, I think the first one on Thursday, and he was struggling to do his 4T. He tried it a few times, kept popping it. I think he even two footed a landing. So he skates over to Marina and Oleg. She points to the part of the rink where he was trying it, telling him to go back. And right back out he went, just 2 seconds at the board. Tried again and again and bam! Nailed it. I loved seeing that. There was no mollycoddling, no lengthy discussion, just a push to say, "you can do it, we know you can". He fell on the 3A in the SP and he was rightfully angry about that. He had landed some bad ones in practice, but also some beauties. It's a jump that I hope he will have a lot of consistency with as the season progresses because he's working on it. I loved his spins, especially the last one, how he opens it timed to the music. Overall, that SP was better than at Finlandia.

I was so disappointed to not see him in a new costume for the FS. :disapp: But I have hope he'll get one. How common is it for a skater to wear the same costume for two different programs? I know some skaters borrow costumes from others, but the same person wearing a costume twice?

So the 4S is up and down. When it's on, it's great. He fell on it in the FS, but it's good that he tried it out. His speed is amazing. I mentioned it elsewhere but his choreography fills the rink. End to end. I am glad to see him get two 3 Axels out there! That 2F though... :( It's been a part of every performance in 2016 except the 4CC, right? I remember it at Nationals too. :frown: Stamina is still an issue, for now. Well, I'm giving him time for this FS. Chopin he had for 2 seasons, so he was way more comfortable with it. This music is deep and powerful and with the increased TES he needs some more time with it. The coaching change seems to have worked out, and for that I am thankful. He needs to get it together for Cup of China.

So for the gala he had an mp3 player and put in some headphones to practice skating. He was so in the zone. When he started his practice Scott Moir was watching him and making appreciative sounds. Patrick also had a laugh when the chair Meagan and Eric were on started folding and Meagan tipped out. He appeared to get along well with the other guys in the group, and was hanging out with Eric during the group number rehearsal and when Yuzuru was skating - he was among the skaters who respectfully cleared the ice for Yuzu. I appreciated seeing his exhibition because apart from Alaine, I had seen all the other Canadian numbers at Stars on Ice. So this was new and nice.

Though he wasn't at his best, I am glad I got to see Patrick compete in person after having seen him in a show and meeting him. I am going to try to catch up with all the great things you guys have posted and shared.

VB, :console: Thanks for the laugh (I'm glad I read all the following posts to confirm it was a joke) and for keeping the thread so active even though Patrick is not competing this week! :)

throwing back skatingfan4ever's first post in this thread :) :agree:
That was my third post ever on GS and the vast majority of all my GS posts are in this thread. :o: There aren't stats that I can see for how many posts certain users have done in which threads, but I know it's a fact that Patrick is the reason for most of my GS posts. Most days now I don't even open The Edge, and the competition threads are another beast entirely. :slink:

Aw, thank you so much for sharing your in-person experiences! If you ever want to guest blog or post your story on the fan site, you are very welcome to! :agree:

Haha no. He was so nice. Kevin too. I felt bad for them, though. They were kind of forced to interact with fans, then go to PJ's thing, then finally they got to eat. They all crowded the snack table and appeared to go nuts at 9.30 PM.

Here's a bit of Patrick from that PJ thing: https://youtu.be/HOSm_GYxzAA?t=1m12s

And here is more audio of the event: http://www.openkwongdore.com/2016/10/10/episode-18-breaking-the-ice/
It sounds like Patrick and/or Eric is crying/laughing at the end. Whatever happened that we can't see, PJ said, "Well, that's kind of a moment." This was recorded at HPC, I gather. It was fun to listen to!

And Patrick's full audio part is here (beginning at 20:00). It sounds like Patrick and/or Eric is crying/laughing at the end (whatever happened that we can't see, PJ said, "Well, that's kind of a moment"). This was recorded at HPC, but according to Mango there will be more episodes. So where do we watch them?

It was all recorded, so I'm not sure if the entire video will be released at some time. Here is a video of the game they played: http://dai.ly/x4rhgge
