Patrick Chan

Yup, feeling very over the "cool" black jackets of the past several years....

Now if we (or Marina) could persuade Patrick that he really looks gorgeous in shades other than....black, grey, blue-grey...

Maybe a red shirt (or sweater) with black pants? We "older" oldies couldn't stand the excitement.

just watched Yuzuru and Patrick's SP. was blew away by Yuzuru first, then I watched Patrick. Then I decided to come to this thread to post.
That was really great:agree:
This season, I always loved Patrick's FS.
The SP clicked with me for the first time. I thought. the texture of music and bird's sound( a little weird to me at first) matched Patrick's skating quality really perfect this time. felt very Patrick, watch this performance, I feel that is Patrick that boy/man.
suggest watching with ear phone.
Also, this SP is really a sophisticated and very complex program. Team Patrick paid attention to the smallest detail.

Agreed that this SP skate was special...

... and beyond the fact that it was clean, and that Patrick achieved that despite the visible spray of water at every take-off and as he covered ice close to the boards in front of and across from the judges...

His energy was there and he was reaching out beyond himself as we saw at the first outing of this SP at Finlandia.

Marina looked a bit concerned as he came through the gate, but then smiled when she knew he was ok.....Really wondering what she is thinking of the conditions. She has a reputation for insisting that skaters have safe and healthy conditions to train in. Can't imagine her view is any different on competition ice and temperature.

Thank you so much for your suggestion, I'm going to watch Patrick's sp with ear phone. :)

well guys.... i have been busy, watched the live streaming though... but had to fly to work... i did almost fly there with a big ball of happiness in my heart. Last night, I went to bed and fell asleep to wake up 3 minutes later... and I said to myself.. oh yeah.. it's GPF tomorrow....and the first thought i had was :patrick will be clean. BANG...

To me, that is the first big achievement and the most important one.
The second here : stepsq level 4.. that's what I wanted... 4 for the steps. I think that the LP will also get a 4 as we can already see that he is adding quite a lot to it, including a second twizzle and more body movements.

With this, regardless of ranking, I will be happy. Since Patrick's comeback, I have learned to enjoy every little step forward. Clean SP is no joke. It's mandatory for him against the big boys. He cannot always come from behind. Now, he is in the mix.

I think the day of rest will be very good for Patrick. It will allow him to refocus. It may allow the ice makers to get smarter too... DUH... If I am correct, in the LP there are only 3 jumps in the edge of the ice... the big combo.... the lutz and the flip at the end. Everything else is more centered. So that could help him.

I am thrilled for Patrick, and even if the competition is not finished, I feel that his mission is already accomplished. I hope he doesn't yet feel like that himself and challenges for the top of the podium saturday... With a skate like he did in China, it could be great.

Skating gods were mean to us making him skate last... I really like Patrick skating first or second.... oh well ;)

side note...

let's see if he has a new costume ;)

I don't usually comment and mostly read along the threads...

But just wanted to say a big congrats to Patrick for a very well-executed SP. His skating skills are superb and his movements on the ice buttery smooth.

All the best to him and other skaters in the FP :)

He did purple for the short last season I believe. But yeah, he could wear more colour. That would be nice.

welcome iceprincess and snowwhite ;) are you two sisters :) I can see a theme from your names :) but what matters is that you are both regal just like Patrick "the KING of the ice " thanks for joining our fan fest where we rejoice about anything pchiddy... sometimes we go through heavy analysis and some of us, do plenty of swooning... (okay, it's mostly me and calica who do the :love::love:)

Thank you for your nice words, 4everchan! :)

Actually, I feel like my name here is too girly for my taste. LOL!!!

Anyways, I am really happy that Patrick has come back and is now in the mix of contenders. Given his age, many would say he is already past his prime. With his remarkable SP today, he proved that concept wrong. I hope he can still challenge himself and put in his best effort! ;)

Welcome to the fest, Your Highness. :)

What Patrick does these days is challenging himself, artistically and technically.

He has accomplished so much already and as he comes back to compete, he wants it on his terms. Sure he needs to heed the scoring and would like to win but he would not compromise the artistry and performance he invested the last several years in. He has matured as a person, an artist, and a competitor. I really like where his head is these days. It's amazing how much he has progressed since his return not just technically but also mentally as a competitor.

Sadly, the blue violet vest from last year's short program is one of the costume choices that was good in concept, but unfortunate in execution.....

The bunchy cut and fit of both the vest and the pants just weren't up to television scrutiny....

Personally, despite the grey and black, I'm happier with him repurposing last year's freeskate costume for this year given how well both the top and pants are styled.

But I'm still hoping that Marina can help him envision a more colourful and well styled costume package that he will see as an integral part of his presence on the ice.

I didn't notice that. So glad that the "water popsicle ice" (as described by some fans) didn't distract him!

Welcome, IcePrincess and SnowWhite!

Javier made a crack about Patrick and him being "old" at the SP press conference. (You can watch or read it on my blog post here). But even Yuzu agreed with Patrick that staying healthy was the most important thing. :agree:

And now for a funny video clip of Patrick's SP:

The cat just couldn't help pawing at Patrick... Another fan said it's because Patrick's the perfect blackbird!

Could someone help me interpret this from the National Post:
"Two-time former champion Patrick Chan of Canada was second, and two-time world champion Javier Fernandez was third after sloppy errors."
http://news.nationalpost.com/sports...nd-place-after-grand-prix-final-short-program

It looks like they forgot to add the words "Grand Prix" in front of "champion".

BTW all, I updated my blog post with any non-muted videos of Patrick's SP (and anything else Pchiddy-related) that I could find!

Thanks vivley! I have another question, for BESP, why only Patrick's has been muted while all the others are not?

Because Patrick is skating to The Beatles, his videos are muted on YouTube due to copyright issues. I wish I could hear the BESP commentary, too!

Clip of Men's practice, and the top two guys splat. -seems the ice is still quite wet. Falling in practice is fine as long as you skate your best at the real thing.

Oooh! Blue and purple shirt! Is that his new LP costume???

I just found this photo of Marina and the other coach looking cool in Marseille the other day...
