Patrick Chan

However, Chan is not just a figure skater... if Hanyu is the sword of punishment of the men's figure skating, he's the soul of men's figure skating.

:points:

The succinct poignant definite depiction of Patrick's skating.

This Skate Canada article wrote about Patrick:

Conversely, his free skate has been brilliant. It’s what gave him the gold medal at both Skate Canada and Four Continents, coming back from fifth at the latter with what he called an “out-of-body experience”, landing two quads and two triple Axels for a personal best score of more than 200 points.

Hoping he has another soul and spirit experience like that!

Latest report and comments from Patrick!

Chan's successful return last fall pushed the men's figure skating field

"Watch a man do four quads, what else is there? Nothing. that's it. That's all there is to say," Chan said after practice Monday. "It doesn't take a genius to realize that, I think it's pretty obvious.

"There's sacrifice, like anything, you have a little more here, you're going to lose a little bit here. That's different strategy, that's not my strategy. Because that wouldn't feel good to me, doing four quads, and having to rush through footwork, or having to rush through my slow section. That's not enjoyable for me."

"But I know that all I have to do is go out and focus on myself to be the best. Not focus on: what jumps did Javi (Fernandez) land? What jumps did Yuzu (Hanyu) land? I don't have to focus on that, I just have to go out there and be intuned to myself."

Notice what Kathy said, too - I don't think he's gonna retire:

"He's had a very good year, he's won three major competitions, that's pretty good for a comeback year," Johnson said. "It's just a very measured approach so he doesn't overdo. We definitely have a plan in mind over the next couple of years."

When I saw the headline of this article, at first I thought it was going to be focused on the past months of this season. How wrong I was! Very nice to see these new quotes and read what Patrick did for dinner last night.

you know... i look forward to see how his 4S will look like... his 4T is so straight and gorgeous.... and usually I don't like 4S from most skaters as they look weird ;) anyways.... let's hope we see them in a few months ;) 4S up, straight and smooth ;) for now, i just hope he will skate as well as he can ;)

He looks quite happy and very organized too with his luggage and backpack - even his gray water bottle is in its place! :)

Vivley, your link didn't work for me. I think this is the same picture. I really wanted everybody to see it because he looks genuinely relaxed and happy. And when I see Patrick relaxed and happy, I feel the same way!

(I also liked the focused look in the second link! And the triple axel was wonderful!)

Awesome, Calica! Glad to see him having fun even after falling. No wonder he seemed happy chatting with Kathy afterwards!

And "Pchan_Canada" also tweeted this Japanese promo video for Worlds 2016 with Patrick at 0:03, roaring:

Love the interview and the mature and wise Patrick! He's got the wonderful mindset now. He's been described as happy, relaxed, and focused in all the recent Worlds photos. And I believe he is truly skating for himself now. No distractions from any source.

All the ingredients for amazing performances are there. Go Patrick!

Yes! And there was so much that Lori had left out of her article last night. I like how Patrick talks about the men liking the jumps most instead of the skating, but Mr. Colson used to give him unusual choreography to skate to and Patrick didn't like it at the time.

"But now... it's changed. I've evolved... I've matured more, and I'm older and I understand my purpose in skating..."

Show 'em what great skating looks like, Patrick!
