Patrick Chan

I was quite impressed by Patrick's interview with Ice Talk. His goal and gradual plan for the Olympic season sound very realistic and constructive as he is evidently regaining his confidence in the new era of quad battles. He highly values Marina and Oleg's role for him, especially as a mentor give me no concern about their coaching abilities. It is also great to hear that Patrick and Nathan get together well in their training place. With Nathan's presence, Patrick becomes less sensitive about quads after quads in the changed environment after his comeback and he can stay focused on his own works.

sigh... i am way too awake to go to bed now... so i guess i won't be able to watch the SP... it's too early... i will be sleeping... I have programmed the dvr to record the LP on CBC... it won't be live but at least I will see a big version of patrick ;) the more patrick there is, the happier I am :)

福利来啦~男单短节目抽签前,超级有爱的三兄弟[爱你][爱你][爱你]

Patrick, Han and Boyang are described as three super loving brothers. It seems their friendships get quite a bit of attention.

From the same weibo

Bad program today i hope that tomorrow he will do better

Anybody have the program in good quality and sound ? (sp of china cup)

Did you all see this photo of Han Yan hugging Patrick? Before the competition he posted on Weibo:

互相保佑,一起加油

Which roughly means, "bless each other, and cheer each other on".

So glad Patrick has a friend and mutual supporter there!

This photo is the inspiration of upcoming fanfic from 4everchan. Love Han for being so demonstrative of his love. Patrick is so warm and personable that the young skaters who idolized him have turned their adoration into unabashed love for a Big Brother.

I wish I knew Patrick state of mind going into the SP or if there was some distracting condition that affected him. Those were the errors he shouldn't and wouldn't have made, what with invalidating a whole jump. He was laughing after the SP, no doubt at himself. I wonder if there was the small medal ceremony and press conference after SP as I'd like to hear what he had to say. I'm happy to see him staying in a good mood and I believe his performance would be normal tomorrow. Landing that 4S is the main goal for this event but he should land on the podium nonetheless, with at least one Little Brother.

Go Patrick go!

Ah, thank you for explaining that. Yes, I love that he now takes on the big brother role, even though he seems to view Nathan as more of an equal due to maturity, etc.

Yes! Here's an article with his comments from the press conference:

He said that Skate Canada took a lot of his energy, and so at CoC his main focus is his health and not the points.

Sadly, he said that with 4-5 years of living on his own, he's lost much of his Cantonese language skills, and can only understand a little here and there.

I think there are factors why Patrick has acquired all the little brothers. He has no arrogance for all his accomplishments but is very open and sincere in praising their talents and abilities as he just did with Boyang here. But his friendly and helpful nature is always there and much appreciated by his junior e.g. Michael Christian Martinez. He never mentions himself mentoring the youngsters but I'm sure he's imparted wisdom from his experiences and maturity. He generously praises and credits Nathan with helping him the elder 3 time world champ, but he has also offered to be there for young Chen whenever he may help in anyway. There are undoubtedly untold stories of his kindness. When your idol treats you so nicely and sincerely, how can you not love him?

So he was tired from SC? Maybe from Finlandia too. I wonder why this SC competition was so energy draining for him like never before. There could be other factors involved too such that he's not in his best health but he has learned to not say much so as to avoid accusations of complaining and finding excuses. As well, he has not had the advantage of high altitude training at Colorado Springs for a few years now and his stamina has not been as great.

Stay healthy and happy, Patrick. Keep your priorities and do your best.

eta. Patrick said he started out well but some hesitation resulted in bad landing of the jumps. I hope he figures it out for the LP. Go Patrick! Land that 4S and skate clean.

VB :

as much as people don't mention it much, the fatigue could be a result of mental strain more than physical.... I see quite well the possibility here with 3 things

1) the split with Kathy and the fact that instead of following his path to Vancouver, plans had to change
2) moving to a new place, getting used to new coaches... eventhough it is going well, having a new mentor is always tiring... so many ideas, so many things, new information coming through his head
3) the mental fatigue about including a new element

physically : he had a little lower back issue at SC. Also, changing technique, for such a refined athlete basically a finely tuned sports car is very difficult for the body. I went through a few phases of reorganizing my technique in my field... and each time, new habits to acquire, new position or postures, even just a new movement (in his case it could be a jump set up) needs time to feel smooth and right... the whole rewiring from the brain/nervous system/muscles is extremely tiring

I wish patrick to remain in the top 3-4 at COC which should be enough for him to qualify for GPF... but if he doesn't qualify, I won't cry over it long... he probably needs some rest...

Regarding big brotherhood : i just love Patrick's openness and demeanor... Hanee is so cute and Patrick treats him with respect here. Some other skaters would lock themselves away and not be as kind and generous.

Yup ;) pchiddy, i first fell for your skating, then fell for your new manly and sexy body (when he grew up LOL) and now, I am falling for your interior PCS :) Patrick is a wonderfully kind and generous human being... those who can count him as a friend are lucky.
