Patrick Chan

Okay, I love the sunset, but look to the left. ;)

Posting on the go... Patrick's latest CBC interview!

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/w...-chan-rebound-national-championship-1.3935658

Yes, he is working with sports psychologists! :yes2:
I LOVE EVERYTHING IN THIS ARTICLE!!!!! Patrick does care about keeping up technically, albeit in the ways he's most comfortable with. And notice how he says his goal at the Olympics is 2 clean programs, NOT the OGM. This way, his goal is personal and not results-based. :yes2: I'm so glad Patrick himself said that and it's not only us as fans wanting him to not think about the OGM. He's learning so much right now!

:agree: :agree: :agree:

Welcome to Patrick's fan fests, Ic3Rabbit.
Glad to see he is working with sports psychologists. Also, thrilled that he seems to have steered the ship back and has been skating happy and well again. GO PATRICK! (waves Canadian flag).

Catching up on this lovely thread now...

Thank you vivley for the gif of Patrick's perfect 3A. It is indeed perfect, big, powerful, landed and flowing out, with footwork to follow immediately.

You're welcome. I hope to see every 3A in his competition performances like that one from now on! :agree:

nice article :)

Patrick is doing everything right. Something tells me he will get better and better and peak in Korea...

That would be great, and when he does, I'm sure he'll look back at his career in amazement, wondering how he ever got from doing 2 quads and 2 3As in his two programs to doing 5 quads and 3 3As in his programs!

Glad to see he is working with sports psychologists. Also, thrilled that he seems to have steered the ship back and has been skating happy and well again. GO PATRICK! (waves Canadian flag).

Welcome to the fan fest! Come and add to the conversation often! :)

Haha, lovely avatar. Yes, I am so proud of him for learning and adapting so much just in the past year!

I gotta work on my next blog post and publish by tomorrow at the latest! In the meantime, here's a nice photo of him to enjoy:

The photo came from this tweet. This fan loves Patrick in his jeans! ;)

Forgot to add this Toronto Sun article that has more details on his training, etc.:

Winning another Canadian title would be 'very special' for Patrick Chan

It’s something of a “leaving no stone unturned” tactic, Chan explained, and something well worth trying at this point in his skating career. He cited the example of finding a better way to navigate the 45-minute wait between the pre-competition warm-up and being the last performer in a particular wave of skaters.

“Whether it helps, whether it doesn’t help, that’s what Marina said. She said, ‘Try it, go for it.’ She suggested it,” Chan said. “I’m really up to any suggestions at this point to keep up with the other skaters. I really need to look at every angle.”

I figured it was Marina who suggested that he try working with a sports psychologist. Good for her! I'm also happy that Patrick is willing to try everything to perform better in competition. :agree:

A warm welcome from me, too, Ic3Rabbit! :) But be careful a little bit, why, I can assure you many of his fans would click 'ThumbsUp' button for whatever you write here, for example, just 'Hi!' ;)

Good luck to Patrick at the upcoming Nats! :cheer::cheer:

We always give you a thumbsup because we love you and you don't come here often enough. :) However, thumbsup on this thread will never amount to any great number like those on the threads of the most popular skaters.

What we lack in number we make up in fun and joy. ;)

:thank:

It's safe lol! Go read away!

yeah... it's perhaps her most gentle article on Chan in years... yet she has a sense of drama... i mean using words like "autopsied" the program for GPF is ermm.. how do I say??? Sensationalism ? But at least, this time around, she seem to be just reporting what other people have written or what has been said in interviews without transforming it too much.... Maybe she's heard about us here at GS :)

I will give it a pass despite some of the tone and lack of true research on her part... like assuming that Patrick is doing all of what he is doing for a gold medal...I think that we all know he doesn't need to prove to anyone what he represents for figure skating.

Oh and last comment : i dislike the photo she chose.... why take an old picture of Patrick when he looks defeated before a competition??? Such a picture is only relevant right after an event... it just sets the tone for the whole article..

OKay... i tried to be nice but yeah.... i just cannot help it... Di manno... ugh....

Thanks for sharing Ic3Rabbit... better find out about it here than in the Edge ...

I agree, and I thought exactly the same thing about the photo, which I am totally perplexed about lol (he still looks handsome though  )
Nothing IMHO can be worse than having to read the negative media of Phil Hersh or Christine Brennan in the US. :furious:

Oh give them credit for finding a picture to go with their headline. :rolleye: And for the ability to look only at the negative to emphasize and analyze, as if Patrick did not win two gold medals this season for the two GP events he competed in. :rolleye:

Off days happens to all the best skaters. Meanwhile we Chan fans are lucky that Patrick is careful about avoiding injuries and staying in good health so there is no anguish for us to suffer in that respect.

I hope Patrick is consulting a good sport psychologist. And I hope they don't complicate things. Patrick has a lot of successful experiences to refer and relate to and I hope they use them. He is thinking too much now, about age and other competitors, etc. when he needs to get back the winning feelings and mindset he had before the sabbatical. Being brash and confident is not a privilege for the young. Ask the newly elected POTUS.

My favorite advice is to think about one's easy successes and hard earned failures in one's life. Recall the feelings and mindset at the time of each experience and recapture those leading to the desired experience and banish those of the bad results. I hope Patrick achieves relaxed confidence, knowing he's is going to do well or win but being detached, i.e. being happy whatever the result. I like his goal for the next Olympics, which does not induce too much stress and burden. However, I hope he keeps in mind he wants two clean fully executed programs. It's easy to over-focus on something and neglect something else, like what happened at the GPF. :)

During the podcast discussion about Patrick maybe not valuing and focusing on the Nationals enough, I wondered how they could even say that. Patrick has achieved some of his best performances at the Nationals because he loves to perform for and thank his greatest supporters. I hope 4verchan will witness at least a flawless program, preferably the LP, and that Patrick will better that at Worlds this year.

nice blog post Viv like always...

breathing exercises rock ... if Patrick is doing those properly, he will be able not only to find the zone right before skating but also, if he loses focus during a skate, a few breathing tricks can help... so I am glad he is saying he is using those... basic but essential tool for all performers...

I prefer don't read any coming from her; bad writer and never positive :disapp: Her article about Weaver/Poje looks like goes in the same tone :disagree:

Not to mention is features mistakes like calling Virtue/Moir the 2004 Olympic champions. I know mistakes can happen, but that's a summer games.
