Patrick and his well worn OSM. He was smart to win a pair of them so he can keep one in pristine condition while the other is on tour duty.
(I’ll stop there with the emoticons, but I could go on). I already knew that he won and that he skated well, so I watched with peaceful joy. My first thought after it ended was, “Patrick did a clean LP!!!” (The 4T would have been nice and he’ll need it at Worlds, but honestly I didn’t mind the 3T one bit). My second thought was, “There is now a clean Journey in this costume that I’ll LOVE sharing with people, so goodbye forever to the old gray costume, except when I re-watch Chopin!!!" My third thought was, “4everchan and blueberryhill got to see this clean Journey LIVE and I’m so happy for them!!!"
He goes somewhere else when he skates well, and he takes us with him. I’m thrilled to have been taken there once again. I did see it “only” on a computer screen, but my oh my, it was sublime!
). Here’s the comparison:
:luv17:My week got busier than I anticipated, but I’m finally posting about Patrick’s Nationals LP. IT MADE ME SO HAPPY!!!!! :hap57: :hap85:![]()

Other thoughts about the program:
-The AXELS were so spot on and GORGEOUS!!!!! The 3A+2T+2Lo was unexpected and refreshing.
-It’s wonderful to see the easier triples so secure as well and that Patrick has the energy and focus to do them beautifully.
-In this performance particularly, Patrick moved with such intention and conviction, making every moment count. As usual, even Patrick’s pauses were significant. Many skaters pause out of necessity (the stuff is hard to do), but Patrick’s brief pauses are not those kinds of pauses. He pauses to show balance and control of edges, and because the music tells him to, not because he needs to.
-THE SPINS!!!!! I’m so grateful that Patrick chooses spin variations that still look beautiful so he doesn’t look like a contortionist on ice, not to mention that they are fast and well-centered. In short, Dick Button would love them, as do I!
-There are so many photographic moments in this program that I can’t even count them!!! Patrick is pretty much always in a beautiful position. Such wonderful extension and poise all the way out to his fingertips.
-I agree with Eric: WOW!!!!!!!
I loved both interviews, but especially the longer one after the medal ceremony. I want to thank Patrick for wanting to and then choosing to conquer his fears by coming back. Blackbird, Chopin, and A Journey are three of my all-time favorite programs of his, which have all been since he came back. I’m probably going to do a whole blog post about what Patrick said there. I found it so inspiring, especially because he just figured this out recently, showing that he’s still learning. He’s barely mentioned in the “Who’s going to win the 2018 Olympics” thread, but I don’t care. That’s just a title, and nothing can take away from the SKATER that is Patrick Chan!He goes somewhere else when he skates well, and he takes us with him. I’m thrilled to have been taken there once again. I did see it “only” on a computer screen, but my oh my, it was sublime!

COCCCCCCK COOOOOOOO RICCCCCKOOOOO One officially allowed thumbsup is not enough for this.
:2thumbs:
:
:2thumbs: to all of this!!!!!thank you for your post and it's nice to know you were happy for us. i wish everyone from this fan fest were there. It was magical. Sublime. And, well, we got our wish : we now have on youtube, a clean LP from both the chopin and the journey.
we will be able to watch these over and over, as well as the wonderful TEB competition (sp+lp) and the many other excellent programs Patrick has skated over the years..
The way I see the Olympics : for some skaters, that's what they need to do, win at the Olympics, to be remembered...
But for some others, like Patrick, or Kurt Browning, they are bigger than the Olympics... they are beyond that. No need for a competition to establish that they are unique and will be remembered forever as skaters who have been instrumental in shaping the sport.
Evan Lysacek wouldn't be remembered without his win.... Patrick hasn't won and may not win a gold... (however, I think Canada has a good chance for the team event gold) but will always be remembered as one of the greatest skaters ever....
Even my darling Jeff Buttle, I think now people are more in awe with him as a brilliant choreographer... they forget how beautiful he was on the ice... and he did get a bronze in the Olympics behind legends of the sport!!!! and of course won the worlds in 2008.... He led the way to beautiful skating... into the COP... I feel he opened the door which was already opened by Kurt and Sandhu from 6.0 era who brought great skating skills to Canadian skaters....no need to say much about Kurt's unbelievable style but for Sandhu, just look at his positions.... his spins, etc... he had a thorough training in ballet... .i think our boys followed that path and developed what male skating (at least in Canada) is all about now... gorgeous skating skills, + content....
I am still on my high from seeing him live... i guess i will stop my banter for now... I was like... "what are you writing exactly right now????" "are you making any sense?" omg... and i haven't even had a drink yet LOL![]()

What a great page in our thread today! Totally fitting for Chinese New Year, and I wish you all a prosperous good one!
Thank you, Skatingfan4ever and 4everchan and the other fans here who went to see Patrick and shared your experiences with us. It's so great to get a firsthand account!
I finally had a chance to create a Chinese New Year graphic for Patrick. Whether he's the Blackbird or the Rooster, he will fly high this year! :agree:

With more new photos of Patrick being posted on Twitter, I will be making updates to my various competition blog posts this weekend. Y'all keep celebrating!
A black rooster for Patrick would be fitting.![]()
My third thought was, “4everchan and blueberryhill got to see this clean journey LIVE and I’m so happy for them!!!"![]()
It is exciting to say I was there when Patrick skated that. My New Year's wish to all of you is that everyone here will have their chance to experience the same thing - see Patrick in competition! :luv17:

I knew the landings on a few of the jumps (the second axel and the lutz) were not perfect but he was landing them! After he landed the flip and started the spin I was a little sad because I knew that he would be starting the step sequence and the program would be over. The one moment that always gets me is in the ss where he puts his hand on his heart and coincidentally that's where there was spontaneous applause. I guess others feel the same way. As he skated past our section towards the K'n'C I noticed that he seemed quite emotional. Thanks for sharing. I love hearing that Patrick looks so relaxed at this Nationals! You are so fortunate to be able to watch him skate in person!!!![]()
Here's another article where Patrick and the other guys talked about the rink being small:

I finally finished updating my post - as usual, I was able to collect some good stuff, including photos of ice conditions at the rink.
Yes, Vancouver would be closest to me, plus it's where my SIL is from, so I will start making plans now. :agree:
I really, really hope you and all other Chiddy lovers are seriously thinking of seeing him in competition at least once in your life!!!Happy Rooster year Patrick and all fans at Golden SkateCOCCCCCCK COOOOOOOO RICCCCCKOOOOO

Do you want to place a bet on who will use this music as a skating program next year?![]()
OMG... too bad it won't be hip hop in ice dance anymore..
here i go Kovtun? LOL
