Wow... that song you picked for Yu-na will indeed by tough to skate to! It starts at quite the tempo before slowing down! The problem I have with the song is that it sounds a bit... monotonous? Like the basic melody just repeats itself over and over again to me. There seems to be a lack of climax in the song that would make it difficult to skate to indeed!

But your pick for Mao is lovely; there's something so heartfelt and soft and subtle to it, yet I can see Mao expressing the beauty and love in the music so well and the little nuances too. I can just imagine soft, detailed opening footwork before her jumps that she would just float in and out of

I'm trying to picture what other lady could do it but there aren't really all that many who are as daring as Akiko are there? Well, maybe daring is a bit much but she is one of the more original ones these days anyway.

Very true! It would be quite interesting to see Yu-na skate to a piece like this; her music is normally quite edgy and powerful (for her SP's that is) while this is a softer piece of music. I do wonder what choreography could be created to this music! It would be quite an abstract interpretation and could move Yu-na from being an actress to a true artist :3

LOLS! Well, I was thinking of Mao perhaps, since she did skate to Fantasie which has a VERY fast opening. :3 But perhaps Yu-na too lols. Whoever skates to it better be quick on his/her fee though!

I think men's skating is more exciting because of the big jumps but I don't care so much about what music the men skate to. For ladies, it's not as exciting/interesting in the technical aspects and thus I find music choices which correspond to costume choices and setting a theme/tone/story more crucial and interesting. Maybe others feel the same way?

Wonderful! But I'm having a hard time coming up with a skater from today who could even do justice to Cavalleria Rusticana. I nominate Michelle Kwan and Shizuka Arakawa It would have been a wonderful piece of music for them.

Seriously, I choose Mao Asada. She certainly has the lovely arm movements.

I can certainly see Mirai skating to the Tell overture but I'd worry about her coming across as juniorish. I certainly think Mirai is NOT juniorsh anymore but I think judges and some fans are pre-diposed to thinking of her that way and she has to guard against that.

Maybe it'd be good for Rachael Flatt. It's way fast for her but peppy music is best for masking her flaws...

I actually think you picked a great piece for the men! It's very fast and powerful and I think one of the men could do it more justice. It would fit Oda's or Ryan Bradley's style. But it would be much more fun to see another man skate to it. Someone you wouldn't expect it from. I mean, it'd be fun to see Patrick Chan try it... maybe...

How about Rite of Spring.

I think you will like the Janacek quartets. Definitely for mature skaters who have emotional depth. (I don't mean the superficial kind of maturity like flirting with a blink of the eye lashes, or a wiggle of the hip)

I'm probably completely off my rocker with this suggestion, but I'll suggest it anyway. This is going off some of the Broadway/Musical ideas that were being bounced around earlier. But I can see a routine (maybe a free dance?) to music from Spring Awakening, but instrumental (don't know if that exists or not, but someone can come up with it right?). Mostly to slower songs (Whispering, Touch Me, Left Behind, Blue Wind, Mama Who Bore Me). I can just somehow picture this as a really unique free dance for someone, maybe Virtue and Moir (because it would be more modern, but they can still utilize their fantastic connection on the ice).

Yes!! I totally agree and posted the same suggestion earlier. I think a Free Dance to Touch Me/Guilty Ones could be GORGEOUS. I think a team with good expression, like Ilinykh or Katsalapov, maybe.

A much more modern take, using music that I would doubt but LOVE to see these skaters dance to.

I love them, but I feel like they could bring the house down with something more youthful and less dramatic. So, I saw them skating to Owl City's Vanilla Twilight. Stick them in light green earthy-toned costumes, and same leaves in Emily's hair, and let them tell us a story of young love in a garden. =]

Shibutani/Shibutani
Tell us a story of the brother/sister bond. They are about the right age to truly see the value of companionship like that, and give them a FD to Shiny Toy Gun's "Don't Cry Out". Very modern, punk, new, dance-y....but, I could see them doing footwork to this, especially during the chorus.

Kimmie Meissner (As wel as Nagasu)
She could do amazing things to "Kayla" from the score of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Meissner could set a beautiful program with a redemption theme, showing excellent musicality. The slow pace would reflect her slow yet powerful return.

McLaughlin/Brubaker
While Denney/Barrett could keep the battle and war motif going after their gladiator routines...Mc/Bru could use a program set to "Bumblebee" from the Transformers score as they battle their way back to the top. Think of them placing all of their spins and footwork at the beginning, slower part, and doing their huge throws and strong lifts during the more fast tempo segments of the second half.

I found a more orchestrated version of the soundtrack (by Ennio Morricone) from the Marco Polo miniseries. This is the music as it was played for the film itself. Parts of it would make for a wonderful program for someone with a smooth, subtle style. I know that Shen/Zhao are retired, but I'd love to see them skate an exhibition program with several of the cuts from this, choreographed by Lori Nichol--not because they're from China but because of their ability to convey emotional power. Just because this music was written for a film set in China, it doesn't have to be skated to by Chinese or even Asian skaters. A skating program with this music doesn't have to tell the same story as the film. I think, for example, that Savchenko/Szolkowy would do justice to the emotional richness of the music. A strongly artistic singles skater such as Mao or Joannie could also bring out the impact of the music.
