Piper Gilles & Paul Poirier

To be honest I didn't have them as favuorites for podium at any point. At Worlds after all P/C were absent which allowed P sqaured on podium. I always knew that if both American teams are pitch perfect, P squared would be out of podium. I just hope they won't be knocked out out of top5 and it's possible, we've seen how G/F were scored in RD, and there's also S/B.... The ice is slippery, anything can happen, but I think it's putting unnecessary pressure on them. I just hope for good, clean performances, with all levels 4.

Well, my sadness after RD morphed into anger right after FD lol.
I can understand their RD score with all those missed levels, I really do. And I trust they will try to do their best to address it for individual event. It pains me to admit it, but they do have history of getting themselves in trouble with RD.
However...FD protocols/scores just made me PISSED, royally. It seems that their 130 score was a lucid dream at 2021 Worlds and now their max judging-set cap seems to be at 125. Yet, some other teams who received 124-126 for FD all season out of sudden get 129+, with 57+ PCS.
I feel now stupid for getting my hopes too high. And for being too naive regarding ice dance politics. It was never going to happen with 2 to 1 teams in contention when it comes to countries/feds (one politicking like crazy and one who can't do sheet).
Right now, I just try to stay in the spirit of them getting the best out of both performances. Will cry regardless, for multiple reasons.

The Worlds was magical. Anyway, I'm not suprised at dropped points. I remember what happened to Cappellini/Lanotte after they won WC. Next season was really bad for them. Their programs did not suit judges taste and it seems that P squared programs does
not suit judges taste as well....

Yeah, I think Piper and Paul may have ignored the message they have been getting all season. Their scores have been consistently lower than the two American teams and I saw it as a signal that the judges did not like their programs. Chock and Bates didn't even medal at worlds, yet they have been scoring high all season, even with mistakes. Even if some of that is due to politicking, I think some of it is programs/packaging.

...then we are back at square one :). PSquared repertoire was never in much favor by judges anyway, so it shouldn't surprise me. Yet here I am stewing over things I have no influence on.
RD is too out there/too flashy for judges, that's obvious. FD is a slow cooker, similarly to Both Sides Now, so it won't get the judging peak as the later one had. At the same time though...I wouldn't want them to do it any other way, however stupid thst may sound. Who said that PSquared corner was the easiest place to stand lol...

I just hope Psquared will keep competing next season. The rules always have their biggest change the season after Olympics. I am hoping the next version of the rules will reward creativity, and the other special things Piper and Paul bring to their art.

And I hope they skate beautifully in the individual events.

Yes, I would love for them to stay competing! And it's not like I cheer for them because of medals anyway :)

I like P Squared's Free Dance. I wish them well in the Dance comp. There's only a been a few programs I haven't liked of theirs over their whole career together. Some times it's just the costumes, but overall I love what they do with creative intricate choreography and making it look so easy.

...well.
Quite a deja vu(lnerable) moment from 2018/19 season. And similar heartbreak from my side. But I already cried buckets at 4.50 AM today, so that's checked at least ;)

I really command them though to carry on the performance after that almost ruined combo lift. I can only imagine it took guts to quickly adjust and recover what was left of that 2 lifts combo.
I am sad they were not able to fully create that Olympic moment with that program - but it seems that judges crossed it out from the start, so I didn't count on anything.
I respect them a lot for carving their very own, unique path for past 4 years, even more unique than before. I know some folks were quite meh on leaving the quirk factor at bay, but I feel that past 4 years really made them grow a lot, especially I terms of what AND how they want to communicate their work put on the ice to the people. I am grateful they had 2021 Worlds moment - and at the same time I curse it because it gave me too much hope that this could last.
It wasn't perfect Olympics. But I do hope they do not beat themselves or put regrets too heavy over both performances. They showed themselves in their most authentic, vulnerable and tender way, flaws et all - and despite disappointing result (because I am sure they aspired for more), they tried their best and didn't give up on performance when it wasn't going well.

I feel sorry for P squared. It was heartbreaking to see Piper so distraught after Free Dance. :(I hope she is well taken care of. It must be terrible feeling to not "do their best" at Olympics, but it wasn't just them. Many teams had made mistakes, so I hope they are not hard on themselves. Do we know if they will be skating at Worlds?

Part of me wish they had done Vincent for their Free Dance. I like The Long and Winding Road. I was just really sad for Piper at the end of the FD last night too. I can't believe they held it together as well. That was truly skillful. It was just too bad they couldn't get that lift clean and I'm sure they would have maybe had a higher score. Hope they will be at Worlds. They are truly special in their choreography and trying different and challenging things. Is it bad if I want them to be back one more season?

I have to say that their Long and Winding Road FD reminds me of "Your Heart Will Lead You Home" by Kenny Loggins from the Tigger Movie. Which I also remember belting out that song multiple times at recess when I was in kindergarten.

I'm just watching Gala replay on youtube. And yeah, Vincent program is still magnificent. I love it so much
:love::love:

It wasn't the skate that Piper and Paul wanted to bid farewell to the Olympics but a huge thanks to both of them for their dedication and beautiful programs over the years. I'm wondering if they had gone back to their Vincent program they may have made the podium or gotten higher in their final standings. As I watched them skate their Starry Night program in the Gala, their connection to the music and each other was so moving. I liked their Long and Winding road program but I think the Vincent program would have resonated better with the judges. Well done Piper and Paul and all the best no matter what you decide going forward.
