Random Confessions

My roommate is in Singapore for 3 weeks visiting her brother and while I will miss her I am looking forward to having the house to myself so I can sit around in my pajamas, drink wine, and watch skating videos with no judgment...

I really know how to live.

That sounds like a dream!

I should have kept my mouth shut. I have the flu. Oh well- I guess I can still watch skating in bed.

Figure skating is not my favourite sport. It doesn't even come second or third, although of course I do enjoy a good performance (without the technical knowledge most of you have). I watch it mainly because of the quirky characters involved...and the rather dashing guys/eyecandies! Shallow? Possibly. :o:

I have a question for you guys....Have you ever cried tears of joy?? I was talking with a friend of mine and she asked me if I had ever cried tears of joy.....I actually have....It was actually when I saw my best friends mom after I'd lost my Partner, John.......She had heard my stories since I was in 8th grade and I was so happy to see her that I literally cried.......

Im a big softy...even movies get to me :)

More related to this board....Yulia brought me to joyful tears several times. At the time of the 2014 Euros I’d been a fan of hers for a while already but something happened during the 2013-14 season that really endeared me to her. She just portrayed this innate sadness so well that when she smiled it really affected me. The first time she brought me to tears was Euros. After such a grueling season and taking second several times after performing flawlessly she finally got her recognition over her home rival Adelina. Her emotion in the KnC just got me. The tense moments before the score and then the flood of emotions that ensued...keep in mind she had never really shown any emotion other than that of a steely competitor. I’d never cried over a sport before honestly.

Here is that moment :yes2:

Yes many times in and out of the sport.

I get plenty of sleep and am tired ALL THE TIME...

Consider your sleeping situation. Have you changed your pillows lately? Do you have electronics anywhere near your bed? Do you normally shower before bed? Do you give yourself at least 45 minutes between when you last look at anything with a blue screen (computers, phone, tablets) and going to bed?

Also, do not eat before going to bed.. it jacks up your blood sugar and makes falling into stage four (so the deep restorative sleep) harder than it needs to be.

Also..have you had yourself tested for Sleep Apnea or Fibromyalgia?

I get plenty of sleep and am tired ALL THE TIME...

Aside of low Iron You mentioned already, do You have some issue with thyrosis diagnosed? If not, maybe it could be a good idea to check basic parameters? I have some issues with it and experienced tiredness. But low Iron is the worst for that...

to respoind:
no pillow changes
no electronics
yes showers
yes typically
don't eat anything but I have to take an iron pill w/ apple juice right before bed

no and no
:)

The apple juice is problematic. Could you water it down to half water and half juice?
Pillows should be changed out every 6 months. It is not good to keep pillows more than 12 months. The dust mites and all the allergens can have an effect on the quality of sleep you get.

I don't know what kind of coverage you have. It's really different here because while you might have to wait for it you can get testing and treatment for free. Sleep studies are a good way to determine if you have some underlining cause to your sleeping difficulties. If you sleep with anyone else you can ask them if you snore a lot or gasp in your sleep. Both can be signs of sleep apnea. Fibro is harder to test for but a good doctor can help you.

Also, limit any naps you take to 20 minutes. If you are sleeping longer than 30 minutes you are not napping, you are sleeping and it will really mess up your nighttime sleeping patterns. 20 minutes is what most people need to bring down the enzyme that causes that fuzzy feeling.

Some people find keeping a sleep journal helps. We often have trouble keeping track of our own sleep habits over a monthly or multiple month period. Also it can help you keep track of what is going on when you sleep well and what you is going on when you don't. Some foods, some drinks, some exercises will effect sleep. Avoid alcohol.

Nothing wrong with admitting Skating isn't your be all end all sport. I go in cycles. FS is probably my third favorite sport atm... Mushing has my be all end all, though...

S4M, you may also want to check out this:

Basically, the idea is it's good to sleep between sleep cycles and you may be tired because you're trying to wake-up in the middle of a cycle. Also if you hit snooze in the morning instead of getting up, you're essentially telling your body to reset to another sleep cycle, so if you try to wake five minutes later, you'll feel tired because you disrupted that cycle: https://greatist.com/happiness/snooze-button-bad-for-sleep

I can only think of one occasion - when Kelly Gallagher won the Gold medal in the Visually Impaired Super G at the Sochi Paralympics.

Like me, Kelly is from Northern Ireland. And she is only a few months older than me. So, there was an obvious connection.

I admire ski racers at the best of times, because I know that I wouldn't be brave enough to to do what they do. But for Kelly to do it when she has barely any vision?! I am just so in awe of her.

So, when she won, I was so delighted that I just burst into tears.

I'm really sad that, as it stands, Kelly isn't going to Pyeongchang (she missed most of last season through injury, and it has put her on the back-foot compared to her team-mates). But, I still have my fingers crossed that she will get a place when any un-used slots are re-allocated.

I'm also a huge softy. I cry a lot at movies. I was crying during Jason and Max's free skates at 4CC. I cry a freaking lot

I cried and was generally inconsolable when Todd finished 4th in Nagano 1998. I watched the rest of the Olympics, but just didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped. A month later I was feeling much better when he won the silver medal @ Worlds (and won the free skate). No doubt I probably cried tears of joy when he won Worlds in 1996.

I'm a softy @ movies, too!

Yeah, same here. I cry every time my favourite team wins the FA Cup final, so, no tears this year :sarcasm: I cry when I return to places that mean a lot more to me than just a tourist visit. I mean, when I'm approaching the town/city/area on the plane, by car or whatever. Once I'm there I'm just happy.
