Random Confessions

If we have any praying people here, can I ask you to pray for a cousin and his home in California. The wild fires are 2 miles from his house right now. His house burned to the ground 5 years ago, he rebuilt, and things are pretty scary right now. Many others are in this predicament too of course. 60mph winds are not helping matters any. Thank you in advance! :sad4:

I landed yesterday my first loop :yahoo:
It was so tiny I wouldn't even call it a loop, more like a half-hop-thingy on one foot both too prerrotated and still probably lacking rotation. But hey, it should count for something!
 Yahoo way to go! :agree:

Congratulations! That's quite a feat. We get spoiled what with our favorites landing triples and quads, and I think we forget how difficult all this really is. Good for you! Keep goin'! :hap10:

Well done! I used to be able to do single jumps on roller skates in my younger days and trying to put everything a could do onto ice, a very painful experience lol!!!

Practice makes perfect and hope your loop become really good :)

I watched the Gymnastics competition today to see Simone - I am not a fan of the sport... but I love her - and I stayed because Terry Gannon was commentating.

Is he still there? Get him out, get him out! 2 miles is too close and if that wind swings...

Yes, the people were told to evacuate. Weird thing is that he is in Michigan right now, but his(grown) sons are there (they live nearby) and are giving him updates. They are always VERY careful, because there is one way out only from their town. No messing around when it's evacuation time. It's not looking too good right now.

I’ve spent nearly two full days trying to memorize the words to this song.
https://youtu.be/IGrAYqyVgwY

To be fair it took me only a few hours to figure out the chords and structure but the words seem a bit complicated and precise that my brain doesn’t seem to compute. I’m sure I’ll get it but this might be the longest it’s ever taken me to learn a song and I’m only a little past the halfway point.

I’ve got until Wednesday before I meet up with a few folks to jam this out and then I think we will add it to our list of songs we play at open mic nights every once in a while.

I used to use a ton of concealer multiple times a day on the dark circles under my eyes, but now I barely use any because they remind me of Hanyuu's. :o:

Today I ran 5.42 miles (approx 8.72 km) in 74 F (23 C) and did not throw up.

And with that, I ran 106 miles in July. It's the most miles I've run in a single month. I'm proud of myself.

I’ve been wanting to get back into running for a little while now and I’m going to use this as a kick in the butt to take care of myself better. I am already in relatively good shape and athletically active but also shouldn’t take it for granted.

I too have a heavy mind but in times like this I’ve often found that running can be extremely therapeutic. Sometimes it’s necessary to put in a little hard work in order to excercise those mental demons out.

I meant to respond to this! Go Sam! :cheer:

I agree running is amazing for the soul. I have had kind of a tough year work wise and running everyday is the one thing that has kept me going through tougher days. I find that if I can conquer a 5 miler, I can deal with what work throws my way.

Arriba627 I've added your cousins to the prayer list. We evacuated on Saturday and are staying with friends. I've been obsessively checking the fire maps and so far my house is safe, but I don't like the way it's advancing. All my best to your family in this difficult time.

^^^ Stay Safe... will be thinking of you and Arriba's family and praying for a swift end to the fires..

Be careful, get out early, don't hesitate...wish for still winds and rain that the firefighters might be kept safe and be able to get it under control...

My brother fights fires in the summer. They are preparing for a bad season here.

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions and concerns. I had word from CA. cousin. The first news I had was that the fire was 2 miles from his house. Then it was one mile, and then we had a miracle. The direction of the wind changed completely. Their house is safe. This is all just WAY too close for comfort. And living in the foothills, there is one way out only. I don't know what the future will hold for them, but this is all just too scary.

Hoping for the best for you Ravyn Rant.

Thank you. So far the house is still standing. It's estimated that we should be able to go back home on Tuesday or Wednesday. There is a red flag warning for winds until 11 PM, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed until tomorrow morning.
I've been evacuated for floods, and earthquakes are a fact of life here, but this is the first wildfire that got close enough for me to be evacuated. It's a whole new level of scary.

Those darn winds just complicate an already grave situation. There was a huge apartment fire here about a month ago, and the firemen were having a tough time because of the 20 mph winds. When you start talking 60-70 mph, that's a whole different ballgame. My cousin dodged a bullet this time, for sure. But what will it be next time --and it's not even a question of IF it happens again, it's WHEN it happens again...Please keep us posted on the outcome Ravyn Rant. Hope you can return home safely soon.

I LOVE thrifting. This is my weekly Saturday activity, I just shut my brain and search for something unique. But so help me God - I hate when checking some clothes' boxes someone stands behind me and waits to do searching for them, benefitting from my 'work'. It happened again yesterday and I did the same thing: stopped checking clothes, tuning back and get the silent look of annoyance to that person saying 'get your work done, You have hands too'. Usually works.

**ends rant**
