Random Confessions

The number of people putting Deniss in 6th or lower behind skaters he has never lost to in international competition is really grinding my gears, but there's not much I can about it... ehh just you wait and see

I meant to do NaNo this year but I only found the time to start today :palmf: however, I managed to write 1k in about 45 mins today which is a new record for me! So perhaps I can still catch up

I am bat-sheet crazy, but I am considering going to Grenoble for GP, last-minute style...:slink::drama::hopelessness:

I have this idea, being with me for a month or even more, to hand-make sunflowers, go to Grenoble and give them to Piper and Paul...

Do it!! I would totally go if I could get my passport renewed in time but alas, no money and it's too late now :hopelessness:

Yes to both! Do it. Also I know Paul and Piper loved the flower crowns they got at SCI, they will love the sunflowers!

Honestly, you are going to have the best time. You can always save back the money after!

Yeah, it was downgraded to Advice overnight. Approx 7km out from the city. The wind appears to have died down today and they have favourable conditions, so they don't think it's any danger to homes.

As someone that lives near areas with fire danger, I can imagine the stress you’re experiencing. I hope your parents are safe and you’re doing ok!

One of my figure skating fantasies came true yesterday...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6c2M8Y5mdMo

...and I didn't like it!!!

Here's what I wrote about it in the dedicated thread:

Popova/Mozgov are doing Power Rangers, OMG

Now I have seen everything!

And I didn't like it. It was so cringeworthy! :drama:

Says the guy who posted this in the "if you're a figure skater, what would you be?" thread a few years ago:

LOVE THIS THREAD!!!

(And that's including the digression about translating! ;) )

But, back to the topic. Here are my thoughts.

...

Music

...

Also, ever since Sota Yamamoto dressed up as a member of International Rescue and skated to the “Thunderbirds” theme at last year’s WTT Gala, I have a bit of a fantasy of skating to Ron Wasserman’s masterpiece, “Go Go Power Rangers”, dressed as my favourite Power Ranger, Tommy the Green Ranger…

Costume

...

Definitely not anything over the top! (A Power Rangers costume isn’t over the top…)

And this in the "Cool TV theme songs that would be cool for skating programs" thread a year later:

...

Anyway, onto my choices.

I have long complained about there not being enough rock music in figure skating. And, during the WTT gala, I noticed somebody else commenting the same. So, for those of us that appreciate a bit of rock, how about these?

Ron Wasserman – “Go Go Power Rangers
Muff Murfin – “Gladiators” Theme Tune

OK, so I have suggested those 2 tunes before in another thread! But, there are new members posting in this thread!

Let me think of some more, and I'll get back to you

CaroLiza_fan

Anyway, back to Bettina and Sergey's routine. Here are the things I have complaints about.

Red and Yellow?! It should have been Green and Pink!!! ;)

Plus, the costumes themselves looked awful. If they were not going to wear replica costumes with proper helmets, then they should have at least had Bettina wearing this:

http://halloweenboom.com/b/power-rangers-yellow-ranger-skater-dress/

Or, if going with my preferences, the pink version. :agree:

Also, the music used in the routine was awful! Should have used the Ron Wasserman song I linked to in my previous posts on the subject. Or, if not that, then this cover:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imjM7MuBrMs

Although what I saw made me cringe, it was still a fun theme for a routine. So, if they made at least some of the changes suggested and did a lot of polishing, it could become an epic routine.

Credit to them for attempting it.

Thanks, all! Yes, everything's fine. The weather turned as they hoped it would and now they're basically mopping up. It burnt out around 250 hectares, so it wasn't a big fire. Now everyone's just furious because of how it started - some (insert swear words) stole a car, took it out to the forest (please note well publicised drought for some time so everyone with half a brain cell knows that makes the bushland a tinderbox) and set it on fire.

Please stay safe!

Confession: I love volunteering my time and photography to our local animal shelter... but this time of year (and at the end of spring) I absolutely hate crappy pet owners. They all want to have kittens and puppies at Christmas so they dump their older animals on the shelter door stop. Most of these animals are not well trained, and the owners give stupid reasons for giving them up. Typically it's "well... they bit/peed on/tore up..." the shelter can only go with what's reported... but while working with these animals we never see any of the behavior supposedly for the reason... typical behavior problems is they don't know basic commands, or aren't fixed so they have certain undesirable traits like marking territory and getting very hormonal/territorial LOL

Just really ticked me off today to see so many sad older animals in kennels wondering why they're there and not with the family that promised to love them.

Oh wow, I didn't know that people do that. :sad21: That makes me want to run to the animal shelter and go get more older kitties... If only I had more money and a bigger house...

If it makes you feel any better, it's almost always the most sad and pathetic ones that I end up adopting, always adults, quite often seniors. Two of them are gigantic velcro-extroverts and appear to have been sad and pathetic due to loneliness. They are most definitely not lonely anymore... nor do I have any room in my bed at night anymore.

OMG, one of them is staring at me right now. He's stunningly gorgeous but has the creepiest stare sometimes.

America is such a throw away culture anymore that we throw away living beings. It's very sad. It's VERY common here in Alaska where you still have some pretty archaic ideas of animal husbandry.

lavenderblossom and Mrs. P - thanks so much for words of encouragement and thank you all who gave my post thumbs up. These mean a lot facing (as usual) my family reaction my this idea...I know I should have expected this, but it still stings - that this is my fanaberia, that I will get lost/get mugged/get attacked by immigrants/experience terrorist attack...It's just so frustrating, tiring to see no support from someone closest to me. I am a bit down today with this idea, but still will buy ingredients for sunflowers and some US flag and French flag colours to make mini-bouquets, just in case ;)

And Bunnies at Easter. We just got a bunny from a co-worker that did not want it anymore. He is so sweet and Funny! And my cats love him. A bunny is a prey animal, so you cannot just dump them.

In relation to the bold: I think your family might be related to my mother. Maybe that can be a new motto for skaters/coaches. "Put the speed of a worried Eastern European mother's fun-spoiling into your jumps!" :palmf:

Expecting is should make it sting less, but it just never does, does it? The only thing that sort of makes it sting less for me is to focus on being grateful that I don't have that kind of negative mindset myself and how much more fun I have than naysayers like that.

If you can afford it and can go without any problems at work/school/whatever, I think you should!

Believe me, 2-3 years ago I'd cry myself all night after hearing such words of 'encouragement' and forget about that idea altogether. But I grew up of this backing off approach, especially after being in March in Milan at Worlds - alone for almost whole week. I had the words on my tongue to tell my mom that Poland is no immune to things she mentioned regarding France and I can experience bad things anywhere, but it is pointless to argue. Like Mrs. P said - I can re-grow my savings, but I won't have any occasion like that, to see Piper/Paul's FD they have THIS season live. I'm just tend to second-guessing myself too much, being afraid to make something bold, unexpected, last-minute. You and my teammates at work are keeping me with this decision, believe or not:)

Aww, I'm glad I could help! Yeah, as I said to someone else who was debating going to a competition... skaters retire. You never know when your last chance will be.

There will always be terrorists. There will always be Polish mothers (and Polish diaspora mothers) worrying about terrorists. There won't always be Piper/Paul in Grenoble!

Yes. Yes. For the love of all things holy, don't assume there'll be another chance. Because there may not be, and then you'll be struck with sadness forever, wishing you'd had the opportunity to see them skate live.

Yeah. That’s what haunts me. But I had a second grand mal seizure on Sunday, so I’ve pretty much resigned myself to the fact that traveling, attending an event, etc., are just not ... realistic dreams, and holding on to that hope just makes the reality even more crushing.

At least I have my playlists of certain skates to help muddle through the hard times. I was stuck in the hospital for 4+ hours for infusions during the OWG, and certain performances helped take the edge off of those awful trips. (And the absolute letdown they were in terms of symptom relief.)

If you can go to an event and you want to, go. Always.

Praying for you! :ghug: It might seem crushing, but I can't imagine that having hope can be a bad thing.

This is VERY sad...I was very happy to learn recently that my cousin adopted a senior citizen dog from an animal shelter. He and his wife absolutely LOVE this dog. They go boating a lot, and my cousin made a special seat for the dog, and they got him a little life jacket. Honestly, this poor old guy is having a great time in his senior citizen years. I wish other dogs could experience the same joy.

When in doubt, GO!!!!! Our favorites' careers are so short. 20 years from now, will it matter that you spent that money? For that matter, 20 weeks from now, will it matter. That was a really good venue for spotting skaters. You would have a GREAT time! And BTW, Piper and Paul were wonderful at Sk Can!

That senior pup won the lottery. I wish all seniors were so fortunate.

Oh, I was refraining from bragging about my boy, but since you seem to have appreciated Arriba627's story...

Okay, I'm his third owner, no clue what happened with the others. I got him at a shelter for free because of his age, and I'm pretty sure the only reason they didn't euthanize him is because he's a gorgeous purebred. Dude was a hot mess when I first got him and still growls and hisses all the time, although he doesn't scratch me to ribbons anymore. But he is sooooooooo sweet when he wants to be and will put up with far more hugging and cuddling than my other cats, and he's very smart and curious, too. He greets me when I come home from work every day like I was gone for a month, sleeps in my bed with me every night, and follows me around meowing his head off if he thinks I'm going to sleep without laser-pointer-chasing-time. He's 9 but chases that laser like he's 9 months. He also sits on my lap and watches figure skating with me sometimes. He actually looked away from Mikhail Kolyada's popped Lutz as if he understood what happened, and started purring during his gorgeous spin!

That creepy stare, though... I could do without the psycho serial killer stare he occasionally gives me.
