I don't think this thread is going to come back to life (sigh) but: Kita Mirano has a new ball routine to Seimei, and unfortunately she failed to make me not think of FS

Well this thread come alive again..
Thanks for a new link, Jorge! I'm still learning who the top gymnasts are, but I never have a block of time to sit watching an entire competition, and it always seems to have disappeared when I next get back to it. I'm still at a stage where I watch several routines and know which ones I like better or not, but don't know who the gymnasts are. I'll have to start writing down the names of the ones I do get to see, and giving them a little score of my own devising. Then I can join in here with something other than "I liked the ball routine of that girl in blue"
Sometimes it happens me the same ., no enough time for see a competition fully , today i think later of return home (I'm at the office and have a lot of export that need be out ASAP to America because US tariffs ) will watch it the competition fully. I hope find the tomorrow Livestream link. Thanks for a new link, Jorge! I do have to argue that Bulgaria and Italy shouldn't be grouped with 'the field has changed a lot since', they both had so many stellar routines during the 2017-2021 CoP (my top routines include Buba's Vecherai Rado and Sofi's Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence). But I agree with your point, while Nastya Salos and Alina Harnasko both have great routines they don't stand out as much as they did in the past. One thing that really surprised me is how little the Belarusian routines stand out to me under this code compared to the 2017-21 code. Obviously, they are still very well constructed and choreographed, but so are a lot of other routines nowadays. In the 2017-21 cycle, Belarus really stood out because a lot of other countries either had high difficulty or high artistry, but not often both, and the field has changed a lot since. - Italy, Bulgaria, Ukraine and even lots of smaller feds like Poland & Türkiye have very good choreo as well and are improving in terms of difficulty and execution.
Ukraine also had very good routines throughout the past cycles (particularly the groups), but in terms of blending that with high difficulty & execution (& stability, but Belarus didn't have that either), I think all three countries have made strides compared to Belarus since the second half of the 2017-21 cycle. Probably also because there are no Russians to be hopelessly overscoredI do have to argue that Bulgaria and Italy shouldn't be grouped with 'the field has changed a lot since', they both had so many stellar routines during the 2017-2021 CoP (my top routines include Buba's Vecherai Rado and Sofi's Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence). They probably have very "Russian" routines because they mostly competed against only Russia (sometimes even with the Russian CoP) in the last few years. I don't think they'll have the sort of success they'll be expecting/hoping for, but we'll see at Jr Worlds & Euros. On Belarussian routines: I do get the sense that these days only those two get the Belarussian quality routines we all know and expect, other Belarussian gymnasts rarely have compelling routines anymore these days. Prime example would be Nicole Liauta, she is basically the only 2009 Belarussian senior to be of note and none of her routines make me feel anything. The only other 2009 Belarussian senior I can remember is Nika Kostina and from the few videos taken from domestic competitions I saw, I don't think she has better routines either. Neither does Alina Rechkina, Darya Viarenich, Daria Grokhotova, nor Anna Kamenshchikova for that matter. Darya Tkacheva might have a good routine or two but again, they are not stellar. Nastya Salos and Alina Harnasko won't be competing forever, the younger gymnasts shouldn't be this behind regarding routine quality. And this may be just my tastes speaking but ever since Liza Zorkina retired (sob) I have not been deeply invested in a Belarussian gymnast (Liza was born Ukrainian but I digress), no one grabs my attention anymore. I really, really hope that Belarus doesn't go the Russian route...
If we're going to bring up the groups I think it's only fair to say that the Bulgarians have been the forerunners since 2017, just think back to Tokyo where the Diamonds won gold while Belarus barely managed to get the QUkraine also had very good routines throughout the past cycles (particularly the groups), but I terms of blending that with high difficulty & execution (& stability, but Belarus didn't have that either), I think all three countries have made strides compared to Belarus since the second half of the 2017-21 cycle. Great point, I remember the lesser-ranked Belarussians doing the Sky Grace tournament often for 'international' competitive experience and that would not have been beneficial for routine quality. So many gymnasts of quality being bogged down by mediocre routines makes me sad, just seeing Elvira is enough...They probably have very "Russian" routines because they mostly competed against only Russia (sometimes even with the Russian CoP) in the last few years. I don't think they'll have the sort of success they'll be expecting/hoping for, but we'll see at Jr Worlds & Euros.
I'm also really disappointed with the things I've seen coming out of Russia. Even gymnasts who used to be more unique (like Maria Borisova) have not been very convincing to me recently & there aren't many who give me hope either. Many beautiful gymnasts, of course, with stunning lines, but not much expression/aura or even stability/cleanliness (in both BDs & particularly apparatus work).
The only thing I actually like is that the Russians are doing rope in competition - I get that it's not "broadcast-friendly" but it's such a fun apparatus and I wish we'd at least see it in Juniors/Groups from time to time.
Suzanna Shahbazian is a hidden gem, she may not be the top of the field but I have had a soft spot for her since 2019Some nice routines in the mid/lower field, too. I liked Suzanna Shabahzian's clubs and also Maria Avgousti's clubs routine.
Just in: the Russian fed has announced that their gymnasts will refrain from participating in FIG competitions because of (machine translated) "numerous unfounded and biased refusals by the FIG Special Committee to allow our gymnasts to compete."I have no idea if they are actually going to come out as AIN when the whole national team has been involved in war propaganda, but if they do I am probably not going to enjoy their performances![]()
Yeah, I was mostly talking about individual gymnasts because the Belarusian group can't compete internationally, anyway. If we're going to bring up the groups I think it's only fair to say that the Bulgarians have been the forerunners since 2017, just think back to Tokyo where the Diamonds won gold while Belarus barely managed to get the QWhat I'm trying to say is that for the most part Bulgaria/Italy/Ukraine weren't necessarily behind Belarus during the 2017-2021 CoP, Belarus might've shown the most well-rounded gymnastics regarding D/E/A balance (Halkina doesn't fit perfectly with the mold there but I digress) but unlike, say, Israel (mostly D and E and not much A), those three feds had gymnasts with routines featuring all three and it just showed more in results since 2022-2024 because of the lack of Russian overscoring.
She's greatSuzanna Shahbazian is a hidden gem, she may not be the top of the field but I have had a soft spot for her since 2019
And she has a ribbon to Asian Dream Song, aka half of Hope and Legacy. She's reusing her Zagitova POTO-esque leo as well, is she a FS fan..?I don't think this thread is going to come back to life (sigh) but: Kita Mirano has a new ball routine to Seimei, and unfortunately she failed to make me not think of FS
Only for RG or AG, too? I hope so, because how Angelina Melnikova, for example, was approved for the neutral status is baffling to me.Just in: the Russian fed has announced that their gymnasts will refrain from participating in FIG competitions because (machine translated) "numerous unfounded and biased refusals by the FIG Special Committee to allow our gymnasts to compete."
Good news for my enjoyment, I guess?
I only enjoy Kallemaa in a very kitsch way, and can she please stop using ABBA for her clubs, three ABBA clubs in a row isShe's greatI also like her compatriots Carmel Kallemaa & Tatiana Cocsanova. Never at the top of the field, but enjoyable to watch nonetheless.
Since the president of the whole gymnastics fed is the one who announced the news I'd think it applies to AG as wellOnly for RG or AG, too? I hope so, because how Angelina Melnikova, for example, was approved for the neutral status is baffling to me.
Hey, she's just making up for the lack of Abba in the RD this seasonI only enjoy Kallemaa in a very kitsch way, and can she please stop using ABBA for her clubs, three ABBA clubs in a row is![]()
Found the statement, and yes, it does apply to AG too. And they are portraying it as the decision of the gymnasts, while the federation is just "supporting their decision."Since the president of the whole gymnastics fed is the one who announced the news I'd think it applies to AG as well
