Skate Canada 2024 Junior and Senior Sectionals

Ontario Junior Pairs -

Megan Yudin/Aidan Wright - they jump in different directions, so it really brought something unique to their style, especially with the axels. 65.96, total 104.25, I hope to see more of them.

Jazmine Desrochers/Kieran Thrasher - had a fall on the throw, hands down on the jumps for her and threw off the combo. They have a bye to Nationals for JGPF. 91.09, total 143.61, good to get the practice in!

Kemp/Elizarov only competed the short.

I remember watching Megan in singles, and thinking she would make a good Pairs partner.

I think the same thing with Kara, Hetty sometimes… as they are so petite and must be pretty easy to lift off the ice.

I really wanted to see Kemp/Elizarov. Jazmine and Kieran were good.

I am recovering from a social event last night... I am exhausted and have so much domestic chores planned for today! HA ! But I will catch up on Quebec's sectionals and some of the Ontario as well. Thank you @saine and @RatedPG for keeping up with this. It makes me want to catch up on things :) Especially Quebec's Women SP.

Summer Homick / Marty Haubrich - Sweeney Todd, interesting choice (also I should've gotten Shazam sooner). Outside the jumps, I thought they were fine. 88.32, total 135.16

Fiona Bombardier/Gabriel Farand - Got It In You, not a fan of the choice. Fiona has a bubbly personality on the ice, this doesn't bring it out. Timing off on the combo jumps. Fall on the second throw. No aborted lift this time! I like her holding his neck for the pair spin. They looked a lot stronger than at SGE. 106.22, total 153.64, so the question is how they'll do with Fiona competing in two disciplines at Nationals.

Not too bad for what must be a pretty recent partnership, Aidan was on Icepartnersearch for a long time if I remember correctly.

Fiona/Gabriel were not bad. She really needs to stick to one discipline. I guess Fiona will be forced to decide this year. Her singles performance has deteriorated.

I miss seeing her 3Lz. She isn’t able to showcase this jump if Gabriel doesn’t learn this jump. His 2A 2A jump combo was wild and they set off in different directions during this free skate. I’ve never seen jumps landed that far from one another. I could see Fiona thinking 🤔 “what are you doing? This is just a double axel…” 😆

Gabriel is so strong though. Lots of potential with this team. Also, skating in a good camp with the Japanese pairs team to look up to.

just watched the junior pairs SP from Ontario. We have some great young teams here. Both D/T and K/E are constantly upping their games. D/T's 2axels were much more solid. K/E, aside from a funny entrance into the DS, they had a great performance ! Yoni is just so nice to watch and Ava shines through. Their throw 3loop was money !

Senior pairs SP. Summer and Marty. (i scrolled too far and ended up in the KnC. and they were with Marinaro who looks like a happy coach. :)

Gabriel and Fiona. : some issues on twist, throw (but it was a 3lutz) and jumps (salchow)... but then, they are new and they are already going for high BV elements. Time will tell with these two but I think they look very good together and could become stellar considering the short time together and their potential.

@RatedPG I don't see Gabriel ever learning a 3lutz :) just convince Bruce Waddell to switch to pairs and team up with Fiona. They would make a very good looking team :) and could have lutzes

PS who is the commentator? She definitely knows her stuff so she is great in the replay commentary after the skates... She is not as interesting when skaters come in to the ice before their skates... but she is good and appreciated by me overall.

Anthony Paradis - I think his first combo broke the tech tracker, he had a step out on the second jump. Got the 2A, but then popped into a 1F. 65 for the score.
yeah... Anthony is looking for his jumps. I hope his wonderful coaching team manage to get those back to him... probably growth since he won junior nationals a couple years ago.
Antoine Goyette - fall on the 3Lz, popped the loop and axel :( I liked his skating outside the jumps, it's a nice contrast coming after Anthony. 43.15
I love Antoine's skating the most from this group, but he also struggles with pops
Dominic Rondeau - 2A, 3Lz + 2T, fall on the 3Lo to start the program. No backloading, but he got the jumps in without pops and only one fall. 44.61

And I missed synchro for men, but looking at the results, Nova ahead of Les Supremes for the short.

watching live now... senior women from Québec.

I checked the scores for dance and pairs.... Izzo Ferland need a lot of work. Interesting to see Quentin and Sandrine score so much higher Emmy and Jacob.

They have the commentators listed here. It doesn't say which discipline they're commentating for, the only one I caught was Mazin Thomas for senior women.

Watching Junior Girls as they are in the penultimate group right now… then, will switch to Senior Women to join you.

That was a 3Lz throw jump?? I can never tell between 3Lz and 3F throw jumps. Wow! Ambitious. Maybe, since Fiona loves that jump, I will see it reflected as a throw jump instead.

Yes… Bruce/Fiona would be ideal. I think we both see the potential Bruce would have as a male partner 🤗

well...i could be wrong but it did look like a lutz to me. I am not sure why Bruce decided to switch to singles. What seems clear to me is that he didn't want to continue ice dance. Maybe he didn't like lifts which in that case rules out pairs of course. If he is still at TCC, I doubt there would be any influence for him to partner up. He'd need to move to Oakville and do what some others have been doing :) oh... and how convenient, Fiona is there :) But seriously, I do believe in Fiona and Gabriel. They look so good. I have to say that my favourite pairs man right now from these younger teams is Yoni. He is just a gorgeous skater with beautiful lines and great potential. There is something that makes me want to watch him and not just Ava. I have always like teams where i would watch the man, not just the woman. A reason why I was such a duhamel-radford fan.

Yup. I enjoy Yoni the most too!! I like when a guy knows how to perform, not just the female.

I like Laura F. Paquette for the disco free. Fun music is good, she looks like she's having fun.

Jade/Maya were quite good. Already two 130+ scores with two flights to go.
132 was the cut off last year to make it to Nationals (top 18); Looks like the cut off will be higher this year.

I’m going back to watching the final flight of Juniors now….good timing on warm up for Senior Women.

Wow!! Good skate by Aleksa!! I didn’t know which Aleksa would show up. This is the fight that she was missing at her JGP event. I like it when our top athletes use these domestic events to get more competition experience under their belt.
Clearly in first place, with 145.57 👏
