How can there be an objective scandal in FS if that implies outright cheating? The ISU wouldn't allow that in the first place.

The ISU is an association of national federations. It is up to the ISU membership to regulate themselves. I think there is a lot of looking the other way, quid pro quo, etc., that the ISU accepts as "business as usual."

It is the same with the International Olympic Committee. For instance, it is no secret that countries vying to host future Olympics games are expected to shower members of the IOC with various perks and favors. This isn't considered bribery, it is just how the corporate culture of the IOC works. (Although the organizing committee for the Salt Lake City Olympics went too far and had to resign en masse in disgrace.)

Personally I think Sochi was a wrong place to invest for winter summer, and it was so costly but $50 billion might be an overhyped number.

Knowing that building Bellagio casino in Las Vegas in the 90s cost $1.6B I could believe that building from scratch (and rebuilding as well) everything that was built including new roads and power grids could cost that money. The question is what's next? I guess, so far no one knows.

The International Skating Federation has announced that they dismissed the complaint made by the South Korean skating federation and the South Korean Olympic Committee on Kim Yuna's judging at Sochi Olympics. According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean federation has said that they will "consult with lawyers" on 4th. They can take this case to the Court of Arbitration for Sports, but they need careful considerations whether it's wise to prolong frictions with the ISU.

Apparently the lawyer did a skimpy job and made a mistake on the procedure I hear, so we'll never know.

Also, looking back at the performances, for me I thought Yuna (who I consider one of my very favourites) deserved silver ... but only if Caro had won gold. That's just me.

For all intents and purposes, it seems Yuna has moved on, this is the Korean skating federation that wants to push this forward.

I have the impression that the Korean fed was reluctant to make a complaint in the first place. They were "forced" by the national "resentments". Korean people are far from liberal when it comes to nationalism. Both Korean fed and OC don't want to be seen "unpatriotic". Remember the whole nation of South Korea was in depressed mood because of the ship disaster. This announcement would rub salt to their wound. Also this could be a very bad timing. South Korea must face with Russia at World Cup in Brazil. If they "lose" again...

I would've given Yuna gold, but it's hard to feel worked up about it by this point. How many of these complaints ever get anywhere? I can only remember the SLC pairs and that took a judge confessing.

You hit it on the head. Faced with sheer embarrassment stemming from confirmation straight from the horse's mouth that a judge helped rig it, the ISU had to do something in 2002. In this case, I don't see anyone stepping forward making any similar such confessions (rigged or not, we can only speculate at this point), even as we debate the results.

My crystal ball predicts that they will decide that it is unwise to proceed further. :yes:

They are not desperate about anything. It's water under the bridge now. I do not think they will pursue the matter further.

Though I'd wager there won't be a definitive conclusion to the controversy, you never know what will happen. Everyone suspected that Qatar bought the World Cup, but evidence has only come out recently because Bill Clinton was so pissed about Qatar's win that the U.S. (and Australia) hired private detectives to investigate the matter. Unfortunately the KSU doesn't wield the same type of influence, nor do I think they care much.

Also, whether or not Yuna Kim has moved on should not impact any calls for investigation. The controversy is much bigger than whether Kim deserves an OGM; it relates to the legitimacy of the ISU's judging panels and scoring system.

I think nobody in Korea expect good results in upcoming World Cup. As a soccer-fan, Korean team seems just not good at all.

It will never be water under the bridge for South Korea And its allies. The Brennan's and hersh's etc.

The one thing that disappoints me in all this, as an Adelina fan, is that the ISU won't identify the judges and their marks. It would give everyone closure one way or the other.

Not surprised by the dismissal. I hope they go to the CAS. I could see it working out in South Korea's favor.
