TT choreographed both MK's LP and a new SP

I hope she does the 3/3 at Campbells. That's just the place to try it. What has she got to lose?
My guess is she might try one there, but not both.

She'll do them both at Campbell's. Like this. It's all in the numbers.

Michelle:

2A = 3.3
3Lz+3T+2Lo = 11.5
3F = 5.5
3S+ 3L = 9.5
2A = 3.6
3F+2T = 7.5
3T =4.4

Total jump elements (7 triples) = 45.3

Irina:

3Lz+3Lo = 11.0
3S+2Lo+2T = 7.3
3Lo = 5.0
3Lz+2Lo = 7.5
3F = 6.1
3T = 4.4
2 =3.6

Total (7triples) = 44.9

Sasha:

3Lz+2T = 7.3
3F+2T+2T = 8.1
3Lo = 5.0
3F = 5.5
3T+3S (seq) = 7.5
2A = 3.6
3S = 5.0

Total (7 triples) = 42.0

Counting your chickens before they're hatched? Priceless.

Hockeyfan, why do you think a late draw will be more beneficial to Michelle and Sasha than to other contenders?
If Slutskaya skates well, I don't think it matters where her draw is. However, I think if Kwan and/or Cohen skate early, the judges may be slow to give out high marks in GOE and component scores.

But even if they do skate early, I don't think that skating towards the end will necessarily push Ando, Kostner, and Sokolova past them (or past both of them), and I've given up all hope of Sebestyen getting the credit she deserves. Kostner, because despite a top-notch SP, didn't score higher than Kwan's perfectly-fine-but-not-magnificent SP in Moscow. Ando and Kostner have already landed 3/3's in the SP in the last two Worlds, and Sokolova in 2003, and I don't think a "surprise" edge will be reflected in their PCS, although if Sokolova is clean, I think her PCS will be competitive. Suguri might be in the running, but if MK and SC are clean, I don't see her scoring higher than they will, either.

Arakawa is the wild card. If she's strong in GP, her situation might be the same as MK's and SC's. If she's up-and-down or struggling, particularly with 3/3's, then I think she's in the same bucket with MA, CK, and ES. I think Poykio, Rochette, Liashenko, and Sebestyen will be fighting for a spot in the last group for the LP.

I wonder where he gets his information? He says he read it, but doesn't say where.

If it is Espanol, then it's consistent with mkrachs2006's report of a Spanish SP. They also wouldn't post it on the list unless they were sure it was right. You can email the people and ask to get more clarification.

In I12gosk8's report of Kwan's SP music, he/she said he/she got it from a coach who wasn't sure of the exact title. One could get easily confused with the two.

THAT'S MORE LIKE IT! The Tchaikovsky would have been hard to cut for a short program. But the Rimsky-Korsakov Caprice -- just take anything. The fifth movement is a Fandango, LOL. How can you go wrong? Lots of Spanish percussion and dramatic orchestration.

BTW, this piece is often paired as a contrasting piece with Sheherazade. Michelle probably had it on the B side of her 2002 CD and figured, why waste $19.95?

More....

Joe and Fozzie we agree. If Michelle comes prepared with a triple-triple and another strong combination (please a triple-triple-double skating Gods) then she will be very competitive with Irina because of the overall beauty of her line, and her ability to translate the music with emotion and strong choreography, more so than any other skater out there. I like the fact that Danny is on the sidelines motivating her onward. He is at his best as her biggest fan and motivator, and not as her coach. Arutnuian would love an OG Medalist in his resume so he will do his best to make her as competitve as he can. The rest is up to her. She is the greatest skater of all time in my opinion and I want to see her prove it definitively.

Is everyone sure it's not Espana Cani? Which is the one Lysacek used for his SP?

Since this whole thread is going by i12gosk8's post, then it is officially Cappricio Espanol. He said that was the music he was talking about.

Actually, this is not what he meant. This poster has said he has not heard the music himself, and that he was told Cappricio Italien. He only said that he likes Cappricio Espanol better than Cappricio Italien.

I know others have said this music has been used before, but I don't remember it at all. Has anyone used it since 1992? If not, that's quite a long time in between uses. I think that would be acceptable ;) .

You're totally right about that. I misread what he posted.

I think Phaneuf used it recently.

Yes Phaneuf used it for her LP this year.

I personally hope Michelle comes out fighting this year.

re. SP

I hope this report is true! Torvill & Dean used Capriccio Espagnol for one of my all-time favorite programs - their Paso Doble in 1984 where she was his cape. I can definitely see Michelle skating to this piece.

Actually, I think the judges might be more likely to give Kostner higher PCS now that she has that Worlds bronze--and the competition is in her home country. Not that she doesn't deserve good PCS, but those things just might be factors in a close competition.

Capriccio Espagnol! :clap: I hope it's true.
I wonder if Michelle will attempt a 3/3 in the short program this season (if she's consistent enough with the 3/3 in the LP). More important, will it be worth the risk?

So we are still in the dark for the SP. I wouldn't mind PIT's Caprice Italien. It is not used as often as it was in the way back past. It might sound more refreshing than the much overused RimskyKorsakov. Italien is tricky music though.

Of course Espana Cani, would have her come out as a Matadora. That would blow everyone's mind.

The costume possibilities alone!

I think the risk factor is different under the NJS. Under ordinal judging, if you blew your combination that was a huge required deduction for not completing a required element. So you didn't dare try a triple-triple.

But now, I think the penalty is no worse than just, you don't get the points that a successful jump would have brought. Since the points are cumulative for both programs, doing a triple-triple in the short is a way to squeeze an extra triple into your overall point total.

The biggest downside is, if you mess up you might not make it into the final group for the long. In principle, this shouldn't matter any more, but it does.

ITA Mathman. I hope this means we will see some exciting risk taking this year, with the spoils going to the brave!!

Carolina's PCS scores aren't as high as they could be because her skating skills are uneven. She has terrific speed and lands difficult 3/3 combinations, but has problems with the 2A and 3Z. Her speed tends to taper off as the FS progresses and she gets downright sloppy in the last minute of her program. Her spiral needs a LOT of work, and so do some of her spins. And although she has a kind of girlish charm, she still has that coltish, unfinished look.

In the Olympics, PCS won't be calibrated to the quali scores, which are based on the LP.

Koster, with rare exception, is a short program skater. Her spiral positions have been generally decent, if not stellar, but in 2003 and IIRC 2004, she did difficult transitions between them (flowing in one direction, then a turn on the supporting foot to flow in the opposite direction). Her 2A is fine in the SP, where she's not past the 3-minute mark of the LP. Her weakness is the last minute of the LP.

I think it's more likely that if she gets high PCS in the SP, they will carry over into the LP, instead of a lesser impression in the quali carrying over into the SP. But she's got to be nerveless in the SP.
