Vincent Zhou

Finally, i finished reading the updates in the last 3 pages.it seems that we have a couple of new friends on Vincent's FF. Welcome:love:
Here are some thought. first of all
@TontoK
It's a great story. Good guy just keeps his head down, works his tail off, and shuts everyone up with his performances.

@justvaliant
He is a very talented young man and had the cleanest FS that night. Way to stick it to your detractors

@yyyskate
As I know Vincent, I believe he will continue work hard and smart to improve ALL aspects of his figure skating and change the narratives through his own effort. And eventually control his own fate.

reading all these similar comments (to mine) is really heart warming. So happy for Vincent that his effort got recognized and he DID it!!

@ justvaliant
a well crafted, nuanced masterpiece!The music cuts are divine as well. And it's a bit underrated in my opinion -- which I think should not be the case as it approaches the same level of beauty as the magnificent Hanyu's Seimei FS.

So glad @justvaliant you saw and feel the nuance in Vincent's free skate performance, because "nuance" is one aspect that Vincent specifically wanna interpret in his free. So glad people actually detect that in Vincent's performance. As for the comparison to Yuzuru's Seimei, throughout this season, I also did the comparison in my head :biggrin: not just once, from costume design to choreographic intentions. but I will withhold my opinion for now.

"Japan really is a blessing for Vincent." :luv17::love:
agree and disagree.:biggrin:

I think every place is a blessing for Vincent, because he always, always leaves his best effort and more on the competition ice in every competition in any place.:o:

about where will Vincent train next season. will Vincent go to Japan to train with Hamada Sensei more? some wild guess
@lariko next season's world is in Canada, Vincent is a very thoughtful about his skating career towards 2022. So he may collaborate more with Canadian based choreographers or training camp just to get aquatinted with the Canadian audience for next season. And he may also go to college, don't know how will Vincent handle that.. Many things is still up in the air. So excited. my personal suggestion is as always, explore and expand in ALL aspect of figure skating, learn from expertise who are really passionate about figure skating like a sponge will always be rewarding and fun.
paraphrase Vincent "human are creature of habit,... don't be afraid of coming out of your comfort zone...":biggrin:

it is great idea to give some music choice suggestions to Vincent now, since he hasn't made up his mind yet.
I still haven't elaborate about the #soulmates thingy.:biggrin::biggrin: but so glad to read all your comments about it, And, the "teen werewolf romance vibe" cringe as it may be, does give me a fan-art idea though. :biggrin:

@Zenchio63 "Vincent is adorable when he is just being himself. But when he "tries" to be funny in his own geeky way, things get a bit confusing."
:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
Cannot wait to watch Vincent's "Made in China" debut tonight, although I will not the there...:cry: Hopefully, fancams will pop up.:hap85:

Vincent' Free music is remixed by Hugo Chouinard (check out his insta story) just for his LAST performance this season at WTT. And it is the best free skate of Vincent's entire life!!!!!!
WTT is not a significant event, basically an end of season celebration kinda thing, and Vincent was not certain whether he is going to WTT or not even after worlds' podium finish. But Vincent went out of his way to remix his free music (with the help of the lovely Hugo Chouinard) just for WTT.

This must be a gift and Vincent's love to figure skating and his adoring fans. Vincent said at worlds fan message that "it make me happy that my skating makes you happy" :love:

Thank you Vincent for your LOVE :love: and surprise gift:biggrin:

and I suggested Vincent to remix his Free skate music at the beginning of this season (on this board actually), I never expected Vincent would actually do this, but he did !!!!!!!!!:o:

今天我是全天下最幸福的小粉丝:hap93:

One thing to clarify :biggrin::

Vincent and team did NOT remix the Free skate music, the difference that people hear between WTT outing and other versions may due to different acoustic effects in the arena.
Vincent did NOT remix his free program music according to my suggestion. All is just my wishful thinking.:biggrin:
But now please allow me:biggrin: to explain it as magic from the skating god. we all need a little magic in our lives, don't we! :biggrin:

但是那天 我依然是 “全天下最幸福的小粉丝”

Well, if he travels to SC in anticipation of Worlds, I will be happy to cheer for him. :)

Regarding ice shows I think Vincent might get invited to The Ice. Nathan, Shoma, and Boyang are all appearing this year so lots of fans want to see Vincent there, too. It's also an IMG show.

He might also have a chance at Sun Valley this year, as well.

yes, Vincent is very possible to be invited to The Ice.;);)

one good thing about this is that, We may have a broadcast version of "Made in China" instead of fancams (if any) of SOI shows.

@Lariko, do you have a CBC commentary version of Vincent's WTT performances. has it been broadcasted?

ETA, i figured it out, it is on this Saturday at 4pm

about the #soulmates, actually ... ... at the time when I was posting it, when I was screaming #soulmates inside of me. what I meant is NOT the relationship between Hamada Sensei and Vincent but myself and Vincent:biggrin:. So there is no unnecessary cringe or is there:biggrin:.

Now after I read the discussion here, I think I could change it into “relatable”, which is more moderate and general. Not just me, all people who genuinely passionate about figure skating, e.g. reporters like Jack Gallagher (He is one of the Japan based figure skating reporter/author who was righteous enough to support Yuna Queen during Sochi Scandal), coaches like Hamada sensei, Aunt Tammy, choreographers like J_butt and Joshua, music mixer like Hugo and fans like me:biggrin: will feel relatable to Vincent, we are all #soulmates in this world of figure skating.

what is the definition #soulmates, Jack Gallagher said it beautifully

“It could be a classmate, teammate, co-worker, teacher or mentor. The communication and respect are there from the outset and blossom with time. When it spans countries and generations, it can become something truly beautiful.”

here are some quotes in the article that make me wanna scream #soulmates

“she just really loves skating and teaching. She doesn’t do it for money or recognition.”
“Zhou … believes Hamada’s dedication is heartfelt and pure.”
“She just loves skating and teaching and wants to helps her students, and that is so rare and so special.

“He seems like he is very happy on the ice,” Hamada said. “I want to hear his opinion, not push (him), because he is a senior man, not a junior boy.”

“But I would like to work on his toe (loop). His axel is getting better.” "She has helped my jumps improving a lot, especially my toe loop and salchow." :biggrin:

“Their skating skills are so good. I see the exercises they do over and over again,” Zhou noted. “Those are the basic exercises that Hamada-sensei teaches them, and that’s how they learn the alignment they need for the jumps, from the skating skills.

A lot of people separate the two. They separate hard jumps and good skating. “Mie helps her students see the relationship between good alignment in edges and good alignments in jumps. I think that shows in their skating,”
one sentence I frequently mentioned before in skating board is something like “Jumps are derived from edges”

"I don’t think my skating is anywhere as good as it can be. I know I have great room for improvement. More than I think" :yes:

“I think they are better skaters than me, but that still gives me motivation to truly improve until I can be at the top one day.”:yes:

“There would be nothing more rewarding in the future than to see a generation of young skaters inspired by us
To pick up a pair of skates and try to make the Olympic team.
I wanted to be like that one day. So hopefully I can motivate kids to start learning and nurture a passion for skating that will grow into something great.” :yes::agree:
That is exactly what my fav skater of ALL time has accomplished!!:o:

okay I am done for now, go back to my reality. I may post music choice suggestions, other suggestions and little thesis etc... in the near future when I have some time. I will just assume:biggrin: Vincent reads fan feedbacks.

That's exactly what Vincent's Japanese fans are hoping for. Now that he had 2 successful competitions in Japan in front of cheering crowds, getting on the podium with Hanyu, and having wonderful interactions with coach Hamada in the Kiss & Cry at WTT, they are hoping his surge of popularity will warrant an invite. This "Nathan" fan tweeted: "We also recommend Dmitry Aliyev, Mikhail Korada, Vincent Zhou and Sergei Voranov."

I know Nathan did the Sun Valley show last year. Why do you think Vincent may get invited this year? Tell us more about the show. Thanks.

I know Nathan did the Sun Valley show last year. Why do you think Vincent may get invited this year? Tell us more about the show.

Because pretty much every top US skater does Sun Valley. Every US skater who has medaled at Worlds for the last 15+ years regardless of discipline has performed there, as well as every US champion in singles. With a World bronze I expect that Vincent will get his turn, although he may co-headline with another skater like Alysa.

WTT men's skating will be broadcasted today at 4pm on CBC. If Canadian Vincent fans can record it and share with us, we will be tremendously grateful. Thank you!!

Hi, yyyskate, I was hoping you would do the honors of posting Rainforest's photos of Vincent from the Long Island SOI, as I am inundated with a very long TO DO LIST. But alas, here they are:

Made in China 1
Made in China 2

Vincent in a "colorful" teenage outfit. :laugh: Wonder what group number this outfit is for? The 90's number?

In black jacket, maroon shirt - looks like the same outfit he wore for this backstage group photo.

In Higher Brothers T-shirt, and light gray suit with pink tie!

If you have time, please ask Rainforest to give us a review of the numbers!
These are the group numbers listed. Let us know which ones correspond to the different outfits.
"Born This Way" by Lady Gaga
"Pump Up the 90s" - various artists
"Trusty and True" by Damien Rice
"With a Little Help from My Friends" - Joe Cocker

Thanks so much and please tell Rainforest her pictures are much appreciated!

the info Rainforest revealed is that the RAP number Made in China
is actually a mix of CTHD + Made in China. the first 30s is CTHD (night fight) and the rest is Made in China. Vincent not only made a new EX but also edited the music!
And the number is great, it has lots of swag!

As for more details about this number, and the inside joke between Vincent and his fans, you may check out my newest tweet :laugh::laugh2::rofl:

ETA, @Zenchio63 gathering information is not my forte, I'm really lousy at this, Thank you so much for keep Vincent's fans updated.

Thanks for the info! The first fan video of "Made in China" is available here. Just found a second video clip: swipe to the 7th one.

From Florida Everblades Figureskating Club IG: 2 video clips of Vincent skating to "Made in China" (swipe to 2nd & 3rd), from first show.

Group message from some of the members thanking Long Island from SOI IG. Vincent didn't speak, just chewed his gum and smiled from behind Charlie & Madi.

From Lynn Rutherford tweet:
@govincentzhou @bradie_tennell meeting with young Long Island skaters who will perform at the #StarsOnIce show at Nassau Colliseum tonight.
