What's Your Take On the New Costume Rule?

I think they should make pants mandatory for ice dance. If those couples want to do those vulgar lifts, at least cover it up.
I take it you're referring to what we call the "get a room" lifts?

I agree that some of the ice dance dresses reveal a bit too much during the different lifts. I think pants would be a better alternative, also, to some of those "over-done" skirts some dancers wear....the type of skirt that has so much ruffle and such a long length that you can't really see what the legs and feet of the skater are doing from the distraction the skirt causes.
But then again, I think of what gymnasts look like in their leotards and what can "hang out" during their tumbling, etc. So really, what is the difference if it's a skater or a gymnast "hanging out"?
Thank goodness we don't have true thongs and that there are usually some sort of hosiery under the outfits.

Well gymnasts don't spread their legs and have their partner parade around with them for a 20 seconds for the whole audience to view. I also notice that for the most part, gymnasts do stay in their leotards, even when doing those straddle splits. I think the ice dance costumes have gotten trashier through the years. I saw lots of ice dancing in the early 90's and none of the girls hung out of their costumes the way today's ladies do.

IMO Irina looked much more like an athlete in pants than in the skirt, although at least her skirt covered her butt, unlike many others. Now that the skirt rule has been put to rest, maybe the ISU & others will to refer to the females as women, not ladies. This is a sport, not a tea party. In order to promote equality, if the males are called men, the females should be called women. As they are in every other sport. I notice that all the Canadian broadcasters are now referring to the females as women. That's a good start.

I agree that the female skaters should be referred to as "women". "Ladies", to me, refers back to the days when men worked, women stayed at home, etc. This isn't the Victorian era, folks!

Of course, Wimbledon still lives in that bygone era, with the "Gentlemen" and the "Ladies" singles competitions. So, in that vein, why doesn't the ISU call the men's event "Gentlemen's singles"?

Didn't Fumie wear pants last year in her LP? She looked very nice in them. On the ice dancing moves the one that Tatina does is just not appealing, it starts out fine but then when she bends herself under her partner that's just a little too much.

While I'm not crazy about Navka's lift, I notice that HER costume stays put. Unlike Denkova and others whose costumes ride all the way up their a$$es and you can see a piece of crotch as well. I don't even understand why there would be costume problems when you have double sided tape.
