Will the 2010 U.S. ladies Olympic team be...

Nevertheless, she has wonderful basic skating skills, nice deep edges, good speed and fluidity, and so racks up those high PCS's.[/QOTE]
Definitely. She is a virtuostic skater.

On an unrelated note, I just saw on youtube a video of Caroline "skating to" So Deep is the Night. It's actually not a bad interpretation at all. It's quite funny. :)

I watched the 'So Deep is the Night'. Caroline is total lyrical skater. I'm not sure what the comedy was so supposed to be.

Jenny wasn't going to make that team, no matter if she competed or not. And by placing Meissner above her a year earlier, the judges were basically sending that message. Honestly, I doubt we will see Kimmie, Hughes, and Czisny all at worlds this coming year. I wouldn't be surprised if Wagner gets in there.
Sorry, I'm a bit slow on skating these days. Who is Wagner with now?

Because Caroline is actually skating to "You Raise Me Up"!
I would conclude that the captions in youtube can be misleading - not Caroline's fault. Aside from this, I did not get any audio from Mao's number. Just watched her jumps which she excels in. Excellence in flexibility I give to Caroline.

Too bad they do not meet in the same venues for the GP. I would love to compare styles while they are under fire.

I actually agree with Joesitz that Mao's presentation is very "girlish" compared to Yu-Na's much more mature and regal presence out there. When you watch Mao skate she is great, but you almost have a "isnt that a cute little program" sort of feeling, even with her excellent posture, basic skating, and exceptional jumping, strong spinning.

That might be a good thing -- gives them a slightly better chance of meeting in the GP final. :) With a 3/3 in hand, and great spins & spirals, Caroline should have a good chance for podium finish at both SA (against Miki & Kimmie) and Cup of China (against Yu-na & Carolina Kostner). Just not clear whether she'll place high enough to get into the GPF. She wasn't particularly lucky with her assignments...

Actually I also find Mao's presentation "girlish", even in her most enjoyable programs like last year's Chopin SP and this year's exhibition number. I was just pointing out that under the CoP girlishness doesn't matter so much when you have sound basic skating skills.

Same here. In case Caroline can have a solid 3/3 in both SP and LP,
she can be at least in the 2nd or 3rd place both in SA and Cup of China.
We'll see.

BTW 'Girlish' sounds very ambiguous.
Is it relevant with PCS?
Hope someone will kindly define a 'girlish'.

What about Michelle Kwan? I thought she was going to add her name to the roster.

In this context, it seems to mean childish and not yet a lady.

As to the PCS, many viewers enjoy the 'little girl' effect on ice, and so do many of the judges, imo.

I didn't see anything "girlish" in Mao's "Nocturne" sp nor "So deep is night" gala program,

WOW, that was an absolutely beautiful performance, very enjoyable indeed! She is a very mature interpretor beyond her years, oh my, this clip made my day...

But you know that it was just a fan super-imposing Mao's music (So Deep is the Night) to Caroline's sktaing (to You Raise Me Up), right? The same fan also made the converse video of Mao's skating + Caroline's music, but that one doesn't match nearly as well -- you feel like Mao's skating to some other music.

I find it really interesting that the reverse fit isn't as good. It sounds like that the fan actually edited the music to maximize the fit, so it's possible that he/she didn't do as good a job on Mao's skating + Caroline's music. But I also have a feeling that Caroline is a naturally lyrical skater, and so her skating looks good when superimposed on any lylrical music, whereas Mao is maybe not naturally lyrically, and her program was carefully choreographed to match the Chopin music.
