Yulia Lipnitskaya

Okay, maybe I'm the one who has bad English. :hopelessness:

I know you don't genuinely believe the speculation. I was just making a joke about how it's the only one you didn't refute.

Sorry I didn't get the joke. I thought you were being ironic about it. ;)
I thought my  did refute that, because I took it for granted that you were not serious about that possibility.

TAlba, sorry if I offend you. It was not my intention. I'm not here for proclaim rainbows and butterflies. But to much speculation and discussion about "what Eteri and Yulia must do" is a little exaggerate.

You didn't offend me, but yes I was bothered by the tone of your comment.
I love Yulia, but I'm not her mom, nor her sister, coach etc. She needs to be positive but fans are not preventing that. Fans do speculate. We are not there to see things. We don't know her on personal level.
So of course we speculate, based on information that we have from the media, based on our impressions that we get from her, from competitions etc.
We also make suggestions, which if you think about it's totally crazy because she isn't going to read all the suggestions that fans, in various forums, might give. If she reads them at all. And in anycase I doubt she will change things just because we say or wish so.

I realise that this is a fan fest, but we've managed to keep this topic as a place where we can discuss about problems as well, or say without fear I don't like this or that program, dress, hair style etc.
As I said, I'm not panicking at all, because in the end I don't care that much even if she can't make it this year. There are plenty of years to come, and I just want to see her skate.
I was a fan of Kwan, and I never had the sadisfaction to see her win the Olympic title. The best skater of her generation by far, and among the best in the history of figure skating. But I still love her.
I was a fan of Mao Asada also. I saw her fall and rise many times, and she also never won the Olympics as well. Still love her as well. So, as you see my two favorite skaters were not perfect. Thank god for that. I find perfection boring.

I often read about her technique and strategies. We must concentrate in that, the real things, not create more speculations.

What strategies you mean?
About her technique: She doesn't have a good technique for her edge jumps, and she does have an edge problem for her lutz and flip. I think she should rework those jumps, from scratch, and she should've done it this year. But maybe she can't afford all that with the competition she has in Russia.
In anycase, she isn't going to change that just becuase we discuss about it either.

Yes. I didn't expressed very well. And maybe I'm making this thing worst only for justificate my opinion. It's nothing wrong to have opinion about this situation. But the tone of the dicussion for the last five pages was derailing to the negative side of the word "dicussion". Maybe my perception was wrong. The people in this thread are from multiple cultural background and my interpretation could be wrong.

Well, I have a very (annoying) Doryesque personality (with bad memory et all) and my lack of english vocabulary is really frustrating

Strategies= change the 3Lz-3T for 3T-3T in CoC and TEB for the problems of the boots.

Well, my origins are from the Balcans and I live in Italy for many years now. So, if you know anything about the area, you can imagine how we might sound when we talk.
I remember once in my office, there were people discussing something in a normal way, or so we thought, but one of my foreigner colleagues was watching and he asked me: are they fighting? :laugh2: I have problems with english too. ;)

I think that was a good strategy. In CoC she didn't even need a higher combo, because Lisa was the strongest among her competitors there. She had a disaster in the LP, otherwise she would've won. TEB it was Elena, so she obviously needed the 3Lz-3T, and she had more time also.

I like good technique and big jumps, but in all honesty I'm not obsessed with that.
Skating is not only how big and good jumps are. I love her overall.
Furthermore, she does have many qualities that I like in a jump, such as: Good flow in and out, no long preparations, very good body position, cover the ice well. So I love many aspects of her jumps.

The lutz and the flip can be a problem because judges might call them, as it often happens, with her lutz or flip. So either she needs to re-learn them, or just go for it and who cares.
Not be afraid and not think too much about it, like it happened here for the flip.

That's great. I'd probably be the concerned foreigner:laugh:

:laugh2: I swear I was confused at first, when he asked me - he was from Denmark - because I just kept working. It was nothing out of ordinary for me.
But I realised how that must've sounded to him. Not only they were speaking loud, but they were gesticulating a lot also.

I'm from Paraguay, and I have a few italians friends. I studied italian for two years, but still I can't make a accurate difference when they are talking and when they are complaining

This is so me (thanks mother side of the family!). I remember when I was in my first semester of English lessons, the teacher stared at me and said: "I understand you better when you speak English"

When it comes to my perceptions, I have a rough time with Germans. Are they angry, are they happy? I never know.

I have the same thing with Germans.
Listen to this, true story. My brother worked in Nuremberg for 5 years.
He was arguing once with his supervisor, for a mistake or something my brother had done, and in the end he said to him, ironically of course: Ok, then, I'll go and kill myself. It's just a way of saying, okay shoot me. The funny thing was that his supervisor had written in the appraisal (or evaluation) report about him: He has suicidal tendency. My brother said I was speechless, when I read it. :laugh2:

My German friend here, she's from Dortmund but her father is italian so she gets everything, sometimes with people she doesn't know she likes to use the foreigner "card". For example, when she doesn't want to answer a question, or to get involved in a discussion, she always says: I'm from Germany. I do not understand, sorry. :confused2:

This boss would probably hear a Brazilian saying "I'm shitting and walking" (I don't give a damn) and report that the person has intestinal problems :laugh2:

You guys this is awesome. I may use that work. Now, will Yulia drop one of these in an interview anytime soon? :P

Ooooh yes, you don't know how many times I've heard that!
Foreigners NEVER know if we're fighting or flirting
But when they don't know most often they just assume that we're fighting.
Which I totally get cause I speak German and Spanish fluently and my English and French are rather good.... so if you compare these languages German is by faaar the 'hardest' one in terms of pronunciation/rhythm of speaking etc.

Where I live in Germany we often say:
French sounds like flirting 24/7, Italian sounds like being excited 24/7, Russian sounds mysterious and so on and so on.... and German sounds just German
------

And let's not fight here! This thread is one of the most peaceful places on this board, one of the few where I personally dare ro voice my thoughts without over thinking who could attack me for it :cheer:
