It's funny because since day one this is what I've been saying about her ;)

Q: If you were offered to act in a film, in a what film would you want to act?
A: I don't want to play in a film.

Another reason to like her IMO. She just wants to be herself and keep it low key. No need to be famous or pretend to be something that you are not. Not that I look down on actors and actresses...I can just see how her personality (and mine) would have little to no interest in the movies!!

Thx so much for translating!!!

I really liked You Don't Give Up on Love and, of course, SL. Megapolis was ok; I guess I had huge expectations for it and when it was used to portray childhood, I was disappointed, thinking it was very fitting for a more mature program. But R&J... I know it didn't come near to its potential, but all I could see was Ilya trying, and failing, to reproduce Schindler's List with another song. Something tiny that was brought to my attention was the Bauer: It didn't belong in that moment as well as it did in SL, but it was still there. The elements, IMO, were the same. There was no innovation.

This is 100% exactly correct.

In SL, the Bauer corresponded to the climax of the music. For most of the piece, the melody rocks back and forth between two repeated notes spaced 5 intervals apart, for me it is gentle and yearning. This almost maternal rocking gives the melody a hopeful quality due to repetition, the heart continues to beat, there is a future. But at the point of the Bauer that interval is widened into a tragic upward interval (this is the climax of the music), the rocking abruptly disappears as the following notes descend relentlessly, this is death. This tragic upward leap is the climax of the music, the composer seals her doom with this stroke of death. Yulia throws her arms upward (gesture of despair) at the tragic upward note, and the following Bauer is the death drama--the paralysis of death. This was the perfect correspondence between music and movement. (The music ends with a feeling of resurrection as the notes slowly climb into the heavens and with Yulia's rising spin, but that's another topic.)

The main climax of R&J happens further from the end of the music. In the section following the Jann Tiersen, there is a huge welling-up of emotion on an upward-soaring melody, then a dramatic modulation with the same ecstatic music repeated again. This gives the feeling of higher and higher ecstacy which bursts into an unknown realm (the affect of the modulation is to burst without preparation onto another plateau). The Bauer belonged here, at that modulation which is the climax of the entire piece. If it had been placed that way, it would have produced gasps in the audience. Paralysis again, but this time from ecstacy. This ecstacy section is followed with a quiet section which is an afterglow (in strings and piano). The Bauer was (mis)placed here, sadly it coincides with a rather minor peak in a subdued section of the composition, it carries no message. So the dramatic Bauer is completely out of context, it is wasted on ordinary music, it destroys the music-movement imitation. You could say that it makes a mountain out of a mole hill. Everybody had to know this was weak. So why is it at a minor peak instead of at the grand climax? Whatever the reason it was a bad one. Most likely laziness, since the end is choreographically so similar to SL. Ilya didn't take the time to do it right. SL is a proven winner, it was easier and quicker just to cram parts of SL into R&J, an amateurish cut-and-paste. He only wanted her to do her Bauer, that was all, don't get bogged-down with the music. He was given the privilege of working weth Yulia, to help her realize her artistic promise, the greatest promise of any skater, and he completely let her down. He had no idea who she was, what she was about. She has more music in her little finger than he has in his entire brain. And then he blamed it on her. He deserves our contempt.

It is possible that this tells us why Megapolis worked and R&J did not. Yulia was asked to perform in a way that violated musical integrity. Ilya's layout, or whatever you call it, damaged the feeling of the music. Yulia will do well only if the music is respected. Her sensitivity may be called unconscious, natural, intuitive, whatever word you wish. She is all feeling. We saw that she could do the elements in practice, but when she attempted to put them together in a performance everything fell apart. She couldn't get into it, Ilya had created a travesty. Remember when she got confused half-way through the Tiersen section at Russian Nationals? That wasn't difficulty. Fortunately she has eliminated Ilya, he is a disaster for her. The artist and the narcissist. We all lost so much from the indifference of that lazy oaf, it was Yulia who lost the most. Fortunately Yulia is still with us and he is good-riddance gone. If Yulia gets someone who really understands music, and properly respects all that she offers, and works within her fragile vulnerable sensitivity, the world may be right once again. I hope she is aware of this.

Much more can be said, including Megapolis, but I think this is enough to get the point across. My respects, bellflower.

True. This may have had much to do with Ilya's kite image, which struck me as trivial and misleading. And suggested a child. Based on some of her comments, I'm not sure she appreciated the conflict in Megapolis on a conscious level. But in her test skate she got to the heart of the Megapolis nightmare, she really brought out the tension between human spirit versus repressive society. Huge expectations at this point for me. Then brilliance and intensity were ratcheted down in subsequent performances. Megapolis and R&J belong together, much was lost. I'd like to see them again in the distant future if conditions are right.

Mostly how I feel (especially in regard to test skate), except I loved the kite!

Lenok83, thank you very much for being our inside-man on the chat :)
Could anybody please enlighten me on the two answers in the quote? I´m not sure what "stellar disease" is (can´t deduce from her answer either) and what happened between Polina and Julja (I assume that they just don´t spend much time together anymore, or did I miss something)? Thanks in advance ;)

I just want the foreign fans had the impression of Yulia in her responses and not on articles of journalists...
Star fever, star disease, star illness - the negative impact of the popularity. Yulia said, that it requires a view from the outside.
Between Pauline and Yulia nothing happened. They communicate now. http://vk.com/id120827936?z=photo120827936_358379279/album120827936_201750504
But Pauline left the group on her own circumstances surrounding a few years ago.
