Yulia Lipnitskaya

Statistics, anyone? The number of followers on Yulia's Instagram (285,000 on Aug. 27) dropped immediately after the announcement, bottoming down about 800 within the first 12 hours. From there it continuously rose upward, now with a gain of 41,000, about 15%! Lots of love in those numbers.

I'm in Lip-rehab for some time now and I'm still not ready to acknowledge the full truth: we'll never see our wonderful, soul-triggering Yekaterinburg's Angel in competition. :sad4::sad4::sad4:

Imagine how difficult this has been for her, tars. Remember this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNmtV1wjYCs

The silver lining is that her misery is from competing, not from skating. She is a figure skater in a world of ice jumpers. When she gets past her conditioned need to compete, she can be true to her vision of skating as an expression of feeling.

I will certainly miss Yulia because she is a very special skater. I hope she is happy and successful in whatever she decides to do. Good luck Yulia!!!

Anorexia? The retirement I was expecting, but the anorexia was shocking news. Gosh, I hope she can find peace.

What does this mean? I mean...I understand the title of the video but can someone translate with a bit more detail? Thanks in advance...Spasibo ;)

:/ According to the description and comments
"Daniela Lipnitskaya to TV show talks about Julia's fake father. She will never go on a TV show and wants to everyone leave her daughter alone, and forget how she looks like"
I think in this show Yulia's fake father makes an appearance. Probably that's why she says that yulia will never go to a TV show, but the last part probably means that she wan't to leave public life completely behind her...

Aside from that, how dare that person (Lipnitsky) and the media do this to her??? After news of her retirement and anorexia broke they thought it was a good idea to give a stage to someone like him? That man is obviously not her father, Yulia's family has denied it over and over and yet there they are, creating dramas and not leaving the girl alone!

I half expected Yulia to make an announcement herself, but I see now that this is something she wants to avoid. To avoid the media, because it's hard for her? I don't know, but her mother tries to protect her, it's sad that she's forced to do this

The media has been especially invasive with her dating back to Sochi. It's cruel to think how personal matters that should be family matters are being exploited like this. When she disappeared and sought treatment it was about the same time that this "father" appeared in that first TV report. I also remember people calling him crazy and other names and I thought to myself....what if that is her father and people are insulting him how it might make her feel. I wondered if it may have affected her so deeply that she was seeking psychological help to face it and her struggles on the ice. I'm not saying that it is her father but just the mere topic must affect her deeply and bring up certain feelings. Deep and personal feelings. It's none of my business so I never really discussed it but I will say this as loud as I can. I don't think anyone should be trying to pry into any aspect of her life that isn't Ice Rink related unless she seems willing to talk about it. Have some empathy people and she's done plenty of interviews and never once wanted to discuss her father.

Thanks for expanding on the incident....I don't read YouTube comments and suspect people are going to say cruel things about her there. YouTube comments are likley the most embarrassing aspect of human existence. Someone called Gubanova fat on there yesterday....I should have known better.

I could fully envision her being someone that could go home to Yekaterinburg, getting a job and totally disappearing from public life and being perfectly content.

It's an excerpt from whole TV piece on Julia's retirement:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89oAl52n30A

Oh for f*** sake....in case having multiple panels of 'experts' psycho-analysing her career/retirement/health wasn't tasteless and exploitative enough, let's drag everyone who claims to be related to Yulia out of Israel, Crimea and Timbuktu for a one-on-one, heart-to-heart interrogation. Hell, why not throw in a fluff piece filmed in Palestine, and another cam-recording of wilful public stalking. :sarcasm: :rolleye::palmf:

You don't have to be Yulia's mother to want to tell a program like this to sod off.

I hear you Sam, you are 100% right. Unfortunately keeping the press out of the rink is equally important. First and foremost example is the infamous Averbukh, then all the rink rumors, ..., and within the last week this: "Lipnitskaya struggled to accept anything other than victory, once leaving the arena rather than attending a medal ceremony when she came in second at a Grand Prix competition." Which tabloid printed this? Sadly, it's by the AP, part of an article about Yulia's retirement, read 'round the world. What was intended to honor her became the latest example of pulp fiction. https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...a169beb0953_story.html?utm_term=.a0166382302a The Washington Post is respected as one of two leading newspapers in the USA.
Such disgusting rubbish sends me into an infant rage. If the reporters had even an inkling of her character, they would know this couldn't be correct.

We can be sure that counseling was part of her treatment at the clinic. A crash course in fame tolerance was undoubtedly included. I hope she henceforth rejects any media she doesn't personally know, and turns to social media for communicating with her fandom. As she did with the most recent photo she posted on Ask. https://ask.fm/Sunny_Lipnitskay Scroll down 4 entries to last February, when she thanked us for remembering her Olympic gold medal performances. That photo was taken at the clinic. It speaks volumes, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, there is nothing to add.

ETA Here are the facts behind Yulia missing the ceremony, from Yulia herself: http://fsrussia.ru/intervyu/451-yuli...-shankhae.html . AP should publicly retract, revise and apologize. ... Thanks, LRK, I should've added this above.

Sjid, she shouldn't have to deal with this. Neither Yulia nor any other athlete or person should need to undergo media-training to tolerate harassment and exploitative gossip about one's personal life and career. The 'turn the other cheek' method does not apply to today's world. Of course people will say "Well, it's the price you pay for being famous or rich" or "It's just the way the system works", but Fame is such a cruel, fickle, ugly beast that latches onto anyone talented enough to generate a profit, regardless of age, social+economical background, or whether or not they asked for it. Not everyone is a 7-8 figure earning movie star with bodyguards to protect and lawyers to sue at their command. Where do people draw the line?

Will keyboard-trigger-happy people stop calling talented, hardworking, growing young girls fat?...Nope :palmf:
How about after they find out that said athlete's been treated for anorexia?...Nope :hslap:
Will tv bosses forgo profit for tack and dignity?...Nope :disapp:
Will the media ever develop a conscience?...NEVER :sarcasm:

I'm glad Yulia's never given them anything more than a glare. She's loved by so many, but have been treated appallingly by others. She's always been weary of how fickle fame and attention can be, which is why I'm not too worried. But I am for other young skaters.

The whole she missed the medal ceremony on purpose is nonsense. She and Eteri missed it, is all. They even made it down to the lobby of the hotel they were staying at, when they realised they could not be on time and turned back. They were actually spotted by GS members who were in the lobby at the time. It was all talked about in that comp thread.

Oh, many Russians and the Russian media don't care about the reality. I don't know how many Russian poster will read my post and I apologize them. I know not every Russian are thinking on that way. But I noticed there are many malicious, negative Russians they have a worst opinions immediately, they think the people are liars, bad they don't believe the logical explanations, facts.

The Russian media? They want to creat sensations, they want to manipulate people with half-truths, with only a certain part of the whole things or -in the worst case- with lying many times....

As I said, I did not want to generalize, but I have some really negative experiences in this matter. I didn't believe my eyes... :hopelessness::scard7:
