Yuzuru Hanyu: 2014-15 Season

I would kinda love it if Yuzu decided, post 2018, having won a bunch of gold medals, that now he can do whatever he wants without thinking of winning or medalling, just for the challenge of it, and do amazing things that are against rules or don't make sense points-wise. Underrotated 4A? Here you go. An invalid 3A-3A-3A sequence? Why not? That would be awesome to see.

I read one of your comments many pages ago (I think/hope it was you:think and it was nice to find a Mansai fan here. I'm not a huge fan, but I do appreciate his presence on the stage (I haven't seen his kyogen, but I've seen him live a couple of times). I would love it if Yuzuru and Mansai could meet if they haven't already. Mansai has been performing on the stage since he was 3yo so I think they could have a lot in common.

Yes, it’s me. You have a good memory! Yuzu has the chance to absorb his work of art at this point of his competition skater life. It’s meaningful.

You also have noticed that part! Actually, when I saw him at Makuhari FaOI, two weeks ago, it felt like he was an Onnagata in that Believe performance. As I told, I’m a sucker for Japanese traditional performance, so I’m familiar with them. His flexibility seemed to increase. And that soft atmosphere like a feather was beyond description.
Apart from that, I thought his overall body movement came to have some “pause or timing”. (I want to say, “間”, but I can’t turn it into English properly…) I guess his experience to watch tons of images of traditional performance in choreography of SEIMEI had affected his performance in a good direction. Japanese traditional performance most focuses on suitable pause or timing.

Anyway, the theme of a Sharman with supernatural powers or somewhat is much more difficult than “Geisha” (“SAYURI” Nakano Yukari), “Samurai” (“Last Samurai”, Nobu) or the like. It might not be easy subject for audience to understand. But he can do it well in the end. I hope so.

I remembered the compliment of Philip Mills to Machida, He said Machida was the best student for him above Kuwan. That’s because “He(Machida) was willing to let me push him out of his comfort zone, and I really appreciated that." I think about what it means to get rid of his “comfort zone”. I feel like this program will bring him a kind of drastic change in some aspects, especially, in his expression.

Warhorse music or not, I will definitely support Yuzuru in his last Olympic season. But am glad he chose something different and probably only he can do justice to in terms of interpretation as his LP music this coming season.

What is the chance of Hanyu-san going to 2018 Worlds? I know it's quite common to skip the Worlds in the Olympic year, and he has repeatedly say that his goal is the 2018 Olympics; I guess maybe it depends on the outcome of the Olympics? So far ahead to speculate I know, but I need to know if I will be planning a trip to Italy or not!!

You can send it to JSF. JSF receives fan letters or presents and forwards them to skaters.
But it might be better that you will give it at the competition…

If he goes to Italy and you can see his last performance (and of course he wins), that will be a perfectly wonderful memory for you.
And I’ve heard he has a lot of fans in Italy. Further, Italian commentators adore yuzu! They will be delighted.

I’m also planning to go to Boston (NHK is almost impossible. I save the money for Boston). I schedule to go there with any group trip by travel agent. But I don’t know. The group trip plan has not yet come to the market. Or I might go there by myself. Anyway, I have not yet got a ticket.
And I’ve heard accommodation in Boston is very expensive…

Not yet. I'm waiting for the single-event tickets to go on sale, and because the schedule hasn't been released yet (that I know of), I can't book a hotel right now, either. Are you (or anyone, for that matter) booking one of the "official" hotels, or one that's cheaper? How are the prices for the official hotels relative to other hotels in the area? I don't know what the norm for hotel prices is in Boston. And sorry for all the questions

I'm going to Boston and booked The Taj Boston which is one of the official hotels over a month ago. Yes, fairly expensive at $250/night, but I don't think there are many options much less than this with easy transportation to the TD Garden which was important to me. I'm waiting for the single event tickets to go on sale in the fall since I'm going with my husband and we're going to do some sightseeing together while there. When I went to Worlds 2009 in LA I got a really good seat for both Men's events by buying a single ticket to each event rather than an all event ticket for the same seat. I'm hoping that will be the case this time as well. Go Yuzu!

I purchased whole event ticket and booked my hotel already as well. I choose an event hotel for the convenience and you never know who might be staying there!! The event hotels are reasonably priced for the specific brand names that they are, but that doesnt mean they are cheap. Boston is expensive though. You can find alightly cheaper hotels but you won't have the convenience that the event hotels offer.

The subway runs right into TD Gardens as far as I understand so if you want cheap transportation, book a hotel that is close to a station.
