That's quite true :o I realized last night that i didn't feel like waking up at 6am in the morning to catch the live stream, and that I could just catch up with the news after the fact. Peaceful, indeed.
As it is, I'm quite happy for Mura *v*

I'm rooting for Mura as well! :)

No way. You never understand the value of Japanese Nationals for Japanese figure skaters. They are devoted themselves in figure skating in a not so easy environment in Japan, from the top level skaters like Yuzuru to those who are in the last season of competitive field and experiencing the first Nationals in their career. Some may have to give up due to study, some due to work, or others. They just share the feeling of love to figure skating. They all know that, so they respect other skaters. It is their pride to be the champion of them, and go to the Worlds as the national champion.

There are so many dramas every year. Fans all love every scene happening in the Nationals.

(Ladies)

The members I want (not prediction) ;)

Worlds: Yuzuru Hanyu, Shoma Uno, Takahito Mura

4CC: Yuzuru, Keiji, Ryuju Hino (Come on Ryuju, show us your best in the Nationals :cheer2:)

Asian Games: Shoma, Keiji or someone from the juniors, maybe Kazuki Tomono (Sota could be here )

:agree2: That would be exactly how I want the assignments to go....but unlikely that it will happen :(

You guys don't know how happy I am at the moment. This is the first Chrismas after knowing him that I am able to enjoy myself without worrying about his competition. :drama: I have just bought some cakes while following Russian Nationals. So peaceful... :luv17:

Yes! I was sad the last two days but now that I'm waking up and realizing I have NO STRESS, its quite liberating :laugh2: I don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to try to catch a stream or get updated on the scores...don't have to go into work/holiday dinners with anixety...

:coffee: Its been so long, I forgot that the holidays were suppose to be like this.

I'd probably be busy hitting my keyboard against something because I couldn't find a working livestream and my anti-virus software would keep yelling at me "no, don't do that!!" :rolleye:
I might just use slow motion to identiy their levels as I was just taught last week. :laugh2:

I forgot how nice it was to watch a competition when you don't care about the result. It is so peaceful and nice lol.

09/2011 – 12/2011: pages 01 - 07 (7 pages)
01/2012 – 12/2012: pages 08 - 58 (51 pages)
01/2013 – 12/2013: pages 59 - 143 (85 pages)
01/2014 – 12/2014: pages 144 - 981 (838 pages)
01/2015 – 12/2015: pages 982 - 2202 (1221 pages)
01/2016 – now: pages 2203 – 3363 (1161 pages and counting)

We're getting slower

Well considering he has no ice shows at the summer and is skipping Nats and perhaps end-of-year ice shows too, it doesn't seem bad

Was there any guidance on how they judge spin levels in regards to speed? There have been times when I counted the revs and positions and they all hit level 4’s yet the skater only got level 2 or 3 and I’m just confused. They have noted that maintaining speed is a bullet for levels but usually the speed is similar to other skaters who did receive lvl4 :scratch2: :confused2:

Yes I wonder about it too. Could it be that it is because they don't reach basic position in 2 revs or that they invalidate the change of edge or something or wobbles? I saw Yuzuru's 1st Co spin got level 3 at GPF and his sit spin at NHK (I might be mixed up here, just what I remembered on the top of my head). Saw the explanation from japan twitter because he slipped (?) on his edge thus did not manage to complete 8 rev or something.

Yes, the edge has to be maintained, if you go on your toepick it can be a reason for loss of lvl I think. But I kept my eyes on that skaters blade and it was on the ice at all times.

Speed of the spin relates more to GOE. In case you incease the speed of the spin visibly, you might get one good feature for a level. But overall all what I have learned from getting spin levels is that... you have to count and to keep your posititions. They only count your positions once they think you start stablizing your position enough. The thing is some specialists count it quite late. Sometimes I think it's ok to count but they don't.

^^

Yes, both GPF and NHK. At SC they were level 4 IIRC.

Thanks Meoima! I did hear a few commentators discuss that very thing, the skaters starting their count earlier and then oops.

Another thing is some people think the speed is ok but some not. In the same seminar one lady asked why skater X do not get the feature for increasing speed, the reply was "it's not obvious increase in speed so it does not count". For example, Some people might be easy on Wakaba's spins, but some are even strict with Radionova's spins.

Thanks! So just like everything else, its pretty vague .

Anyway, Meoima, you mentioned that in the seminar you were shown (for example purposes) Yuzuru's spin where it ticked 5 level feature (and if there was a level 5 he would get that lol) right? Do you remember which spin and from which competition that was?

No, it is not that vague because when you're in one competition, the same panel applies the same standard for everyone. So if one skater is judged easy on the spin, the other skaters also get easy judgment too. So it is fair in the end on theory unless some other factors come in like home ice skaters or favorite or national bias.

The issue is different panels and different competitions have different standards. Competition A in German might be strict but Competition B in China might be easy. And we can do nothing about that because the levels of skaters of each competition are different. The people who judge are different too.

That's why they say the current system is very flawed in a way that the scores of different competitions should not be compared but in reality, they do compare it. And most judges score based on reputation and their own preference too much.

There is this case, the tech panel might be pretty much more knowledgeable than the judge panel and they might be shocked because of the scores that judge panel give in the end as well. But there is nothing tech panel can do about that. They do not give scores. They can turn towards the judge panel and say: "That skater did horrible how the heck you gave them such score??"

But judges do not get paid so... it is really hard.

It was his final spin in the SP at GPF in France. That Let go crazy SP.

Yes, it is a problem, isn't it? I mean it's obvious what the solution is, but on the other hand, I guess there is no money. And there won't be any more until skating gets back to how it was at one point and that partially depends on scoring as well and we're in somewhat of an enchanted circle there.

Stars the caliber of Yuzuru's are a sort of a shortcut but how many can you have of the sort? Currently the one.

I wish it was so. I'll see if I can find which GP it was, but I was comparing spin levels across the ladies and there was some exterme variations despite me finding almost no difference with rev/pos/speed.

Did the seminar include all displines or just singles?

Just singles, we have no pair and no ice dance at our rink.
One more thing about levels, they can not re-watch in slow motion so mistakes are bound to happen. :p

Lol yeah...unfortunately. Thanks for answering my question :points:

I didn't know that at all :o Not that it should happen, but it makes a lot of sense that judges end up scoring based on reputation then.
