2014 Skate Canada Ladies FS 11/01

I feel that the top ladies (Sotnikova, Lipniskaia, Radianova, Pogo, and Tut) are behind their less technically adept peers in presentation and refinement, even if you were to account for their youth.

I think Adelina has very good interpretation and refinement.

... Oh, no problems there - Max was smiling from ear-to-ear. I saw this morning's hair referred to as his "just got out of bed" look, well this is his "just got out of the shower" look!

karne, your post is making me laugh now as I read it, and it will make laugh again when I see photos of the medal ceremony. ;)

Sorry to keep digressing, but I think this thread could use some happy talk. Fun photo of Max (not from the medal ceremony) celebrating his bronze:

Ahhhh, that's so cute!

(I think talking about Max is much nicer and more sensible than some of the other discussion going on in this thread.)

Golden, It feels weird without Tessa's picture as your avatar.
Giving your comments that picture really suited you, and I always had this idea that you look similar to her. :)

p.s. Don't tell me you're a man. :slink:

Did you hear that Max cheered on his little sister Maddie when she did a great job to place 4th in Pairs today?!

You must be kidding me, overdone drama and overwrought come to mind, with very bent over posture..I am not from South Korea but I know Kim was robbed.:rolleye:

Woops, I think you misunderstood me. I was :slink: to the comment of Adelina's interpretation being refined.

I'd rather watch unrefined skater like Anna Pogo because she has fire within than many refined skaters but boring to watch.

I don't know why Ashley is lowering the technical content of her program. I just looked at the protocol and she only had 6 triples planned (no Lutz) and only got credit for 4 of them. As good as her performance quality is- she should've been way more than 2 points ahead of Pogorilaya, IMO- she needs to get herself together technically. Like, wasn't the point of going to Rafael to help her with her jumps? That seems not to have happened in the off-season...

As for the others, Pogorilaya's jumps are incredibly impressive. Her spins, choreography and feeling for the music leave a lot to be desired. There was a lot of bent-arm flailing and I don't think she was trying to flap the firebird's wings. Miyahara was great- too bad about the URs. She looks very refined for someone so young. I think Hicks has really improved. There were moments in that program when she looked like she knew the music was playing and was skating with genuine attachment to it. Her on-ice posture also seems a bit better than it was last year. I feel bad for Leonova. I just don't think she's going to be able to compete with the influx of teenagers.

Pogo's jumps are good, but her 2a is very scary. Many of the Russian ladies (except for Liza) seem to have horrible axel technique..
