2014 Skate Canada Ladies FS 11/01

Golden, It feels weird without Tessa's picture as your avatar.
Giving your comments that picture really suited you, and I always had this idea that you look similar to her. :)

p.s. Don't tell me you're a man. :slink:

Hard to see at the small size, but my avatar at the moment is mini-Max Aaron in a Halloween costume. LOL, I think he was Peter Pan?? It's from Maddie Aaron's throwback photo of the three Aaron kids ready for trick-or-treating.

The Aarons were great at celebrating Halloween, it seems. Here is another throwback photo of the Aarons when a little older and in another set of costumes:

Now about Tessa. I am female, but could not hope to resemble her in the least. I think she is absolutely gorgeous. And Scott is equally handsome.
So happy that they had the opportunity to serve as feature reporters for CTV/TSN. And after they avoided social media for long, their tweets and Tessa's Instagrams have been just terrific.

Could ramble on about the Aarons and Tessa/Scott forever .... but will try not to. At least not in this thread. ;)

Will return my avatar to Tessa/Scott before long. Then it will be back to Max for Rostelecom.

Some general comments. First, despite all the negative stuff about Anna's costumes, spins, pcs, artistry, looks, hair she clearly deserved to win here. I kind of laugh about how much criticism there is of Radionova and her being awkward, Anna too rough and yet Russia has two ladies gold out of two and US the traditional well rounded refined ladies have a silver and bronze. When you read these posts you would think Russia didn't have a chance between head cause, non musical Adelina, no artistry puny jump Julia Lip, awkward and unrefined Anna, over the hill Leonova, and ugly dressed, weight problemed,no musical connection Liza. And yet so far the American perfect princesses seem to have problems with rotations and edges and that's even before we hit Nagasu. I am disapponted we talk so much about looks though I guess it helps in skating. Miyahara is a lovely young lady but her jumps are puny like Julia's and I don't think she has that much magic on the ice - pretty feminine but not special. Ashley skated with confidence but the ur's are a huge concern - this should be happening to top notch American ladies. with all the criticisms of the Russian ladies you would think it was Usa first and second and Russia struggling for a bronze - so far it hasn't been that way. I do feel for Leonova; she really doesn't have much of a chance. I thought her sp was brilliant but the judges didn't like it as much.

This is strictly IMO only -- Pogo may not be "beautiful" going by pageant/modeling standards, but she is a strikingly attractive young lady.

ETA:

I agree. This has nothing to do with skating but I am a man and I do admire beauty. There are many beautiful women here in Kelowna. I have looked into Pogo's face in passing while she was standing in a corner of the concourse early one morning. She looked like a young girl, insecure in a new place, so I gave her a warm smile and got one in turn. I think she is pretty for her age and would love to see her in a few years. But I am more interested in her inner beauty and the kind of person she is and will be than some sort of marketing idea of what a"perfect" face should be. The old coyote who is not just a pretty face.
^^^ THIS.

Idk what you've been reading; the American ladies have been getting ALOT of complaints and criticism. Heck, there's even a thread in The Edge dedicated to handwringing over the dour outlook of the current state of American ladies.

Why are you turning this into an American vs. Russian thing? The Russian women are the leading force in their discipline right now. I don't see anyone contesting that.

^ I feel like people are just going to call anyone who criticizes the Russian skaters as "Russian haterz".

^ I feel like people are just going to call anyone who criticizes the Russian skaters as "Russian haterz".

And that's such a shame. I'm sure some of the criticism comes from some who are still not over Sochi or may well be hating on them because they're leading the pack now in women's skating, but every skater has flaws & areas they can improve upon. Critique does not equal hatred. Going forward, I think criticisms need to be kept as respectful as possible, tasteless sidenotes need to end, & maybe then some of the Russian-centered tension on this forum will start to dissipate.

Just my opinion..:slink:

Just watched it (didn't read through the debate that seems to have erupted here about Russia vs. Usa  )

Anna:
Well her spins certainly still lack quality and refinement BUT they have improved from last year! Same goes for the costume.
She was the clear winner here though, she could work on expressing the music a bit more but again, everything is better than this Mermaid program that cost her her Bronze in Worlds last year cause of PCS :scowl:

Ashley:
She REALLY had me with this one
Yes, technically she'll always lose to a clean Adelina/Elena/Yulia/Anna.... but in PCS she could be ahead.
I do not like these vocals at all, but the way she sold this (and her choreo highlited the music very well this time imo) made me forget about them and enjoy her performance!
What's her second GP? I hope she manages at least an other silver there, I really want her in the final.

Just rewatched Satoko's FP. Aside from musical interpretation, she has many qualities: strong basics, ice coverage, frequent skating in both directions, edge quality, intricate patterns. Her jumps may be small but I don't see her having any glaring bad habits that most young skaters have. The standing ovation she receive from the crowd speaks volume about her overall performance.

It's nice to see Max smiling. I get the sense he isn't really all that happy anymore on the ice, and it makes me sad. :(

Satoko's quadriceps look bigger than those of Ashley or Anna. Now if she could only put put them to use by rotating her jumps fully.........

I noticed him smiling during Footloose yesterday, and again once or twice during Gladiator today (though of course he was mostly being ~INTENSE~). But for me the best thing was his big smile when he got his scores and his smiles in the press conference and at the medal ceremony. He looked so angry with himself in Salt Lake City, and I was so worried. But hopefully he is starting to ease up a little.

Geez, I never notice that:biggrin:. Crossing fingers for her training with Kulik to pay off one day.

Yay Anna!!
Ashley was VERY good! Congrats. Gracie who?:rolleye:
